“Sooner or later, Gu Sheng will pay the price for his actions today. The more stubborn he is now, the more tragic his future will be,” Qiu Yi said firmly.
After all, Gu Xiruo is only treating him well now because he still has some utility value.
As they were talking, Wan Feng walked in with a serious expression, “Madam, Gu Sheng has started transferring the Gu family’s assets to Gu Xiruo, including Madam Gu’s dowry.”
Wang Jinhe looked at Wan Feng in astonishment, “What did you say? Madam Gu’s body is not even cold yet, and Gu Sheng is already doing such a thing?”
“Yes, Madam. Should we intervene?” Wan Feng asked Wang Jinhe.
Gu Sheng’s mind is truly not functioning properly if he can do such a thing. He is so impatient, even before his deceased wife is buried.
“Simply inform Gu Yanqi about this matter. As for the rest, let him decide for himself,” Wang Jinhe said after considering for a moment.
This is probably the only thing she can do, and she is powerless to do anything else.
Wan Feng wanted to say more but ultimately nodded without further words.
Nan Qiao and the others sat nearby, listening to Wan Feng’s words, gaining a clearer understanding of Gu Sheng’s intentions.
“Gu Sheng is absolutely out of his mind, giving his wife’s belongings to someone irrelevant,” Luo Hou frowned.
“In Xuan Empire, a husband cannot dispose of his deceased wife’s dowry at will. By doing this, he is undoubtedly putting himself in a precarious position,” Luo Hou remarked sarcastically.
As long as Gu Yanqi is not foolish, he knows exactly what to do next.
“Wan Feng, inform Gu Yanqi about this matter. As for what to do next, it’s up to him. We will not interfere,” Wang Jinhe decided after some consideration.
“Understood.”
Gu Yanqi was busy with Madam Gu’s funeral arrangements when Wan Feng brought evidence to inform him that Gu Sheng had already set his sights on her dowry while her body was still warm.
Frustrated, he slammed his fist on the table, his expression darkening even more.
“Thank you for coming to tell me about this. I know what to do now,” Gu Yanqi said gratefully to Wan Feng.
Wan Feng nodded without saying much, quietly leaving the Gu family just as discreetly as he had arrived.
Gu Yanqi entrusted this matter to his trusted subordinate and then went to find someone in the front.
“Uncle, I need to talk to you about something,” Gu Yanqi said to the person who was speaking with Gu Sheng.
Gu Yanqi’s uncle looked at his nephew with confusion, “Yanqi, what do you want to tell me?”
Gu Yanqi glanced at Gu Sheng and then presented the evidence Wan Feng had left him with, “Uncle, take a look at this.”
Gu Yanqi’s uncle examined the items handed to him, his expression turning grim as he looked at Gu Sheng, who appeared puzzled, “What’s wrong, brother?”
“What’s wrong? Gu Sheng, how dare you ask me what’s wrong? While my sister’s body is still warm, you are already eyeing her dowry, planning to give it to an insignificant adopted daughter. Did you even bother to ask for my opinion before making such a decision? Since when do you have the right to dispose of my sister’s dowry as you please?” Gu Yanqi’s uncle reprimanded angrily.
Gu Sheng’s face slightly changed, and he awkwardly responded, “Brother, this is all a misunderstanding.”
“Misunderstanding? Where did all these misunderstandings come from? Let me make it clear to you today, Gu Sheng. If you dare to give my sister’s dowry to that insignificant adopted daughter, we will settle this in court. Even though my sister has passed away, her belongings are not yours to tamper with. Both my family and the authorities have records of the dowry. Do you dare to touch it?” Gu Yanqi’s uncle challenged sternly.
Gu Sheng glared angrily at Gu Yanqi, wondering what he was up to.
“What do you want, Gu Yanqi? Isn’t the trouble you’ve caused in the past few days enough?” Gu Sheng’s questioning darkened Gu Yanqi’s uncle’s expression even more.
Staring coldly at Gu Sheng, he said, “Try insulting my nephew again.”
“I…”
“It’s your business how much you want to give to that adopted daughter, Gu Xiruo, but when it comes to my sister’s dowry being used as a favor, don’t even think about it. My sister’s dowry can only be left to Yanqi and her biological daughter, Wang Jinhe. Even if she doesn’t want it, an adopted daughter has no right to claim her belongings. Is Gu Xiruo worthy?”
Gu Yanqi looked at Gu Sheng’s flushed face, a slight smirk playing on his lips. Now that he have already informed his uncle about this matter, he didn’t need to do anything else.
Isn’t the situation already starting to resolve itself?
“I…”
“How much have you given away?”
Gu Sheng remained silent, having already handed over all the necessary shops.
“Do you have the property deeds and house deeds for your mother’s shops and properties, Yanqi?”
Gu Yanqi nodded, “My mother gave me all those things. She said that if my sister forgave me in the future, I should split the dowry in half, one part for me and one for my sister.”
Gu Yanqi’s uncle agreed, nodding, “Your mother was clear-headed. She knew who her biological daughter was, yet she helped an adopted daughter bully her own daughter. It’s no wonder the child is unwilling to forgive her.”
“I’ll keep an eye on your mother’s affairs. Take the deeds and check on those shops. If anyone has been replaced, you handle it directly,” Gu Yanqi’s uncle said bluntly.
Gu Sheng’s expression darkened even more. He was essentially humiliating himself and Gu Xiruo.
“No matter what, Xiruo is the daughter we raised. The way you’re handling this…” Gu Sheng looked at his elder uncle with a slight frown, feeling a hint of displeasure in his heart.
Why should he meddle in their family affairs?
“Is an adopted daughter even worthy?” He had never really liked Gu Xiruo, and now he understood why.
Clearly, this child had no blood relation to them at all.
“You’re going too far with your words,” Gu Sheng said angrily.
“Too far? Who is really going too far here? Which family would start calculating a deceased wife’s dowry while her body is still warm? Or pretend to give it to an adopted daughter? Should we go out and discuss this matter? Let’s see who is truly being unreasonable,” Gu Yanqi’s uncle retorted sarcastically, looking at Gu Sheng. It was pitiful and laughable that he still hadn’t grasped the reality at this point.
“In Xuan Empire, there are regulations regarding a woman’s dowry, and a husband cannot handle it as he pleases. If both my sister and Yanqi are no longer here, our Chen family can demand the return of my sister’s dowry. You distributed my sister’s dowry without consulting us. So, who is really being unreasonable here?” Chen Lan sneered mockingly.
“I…” Gu Sheng faltered, realizing that it was indeed true. His secret arrangement of his deceased wife’s dowry was truly inappropriate.
However, he never expected it to be discovered so quickly.
Glancing at Gu Yanqi, how did he find out?
“Yanqi, go handle things.”
“Understood.”
Gu Yanqi returned to his courtyard, taking the property deeds to the several shops. When he arrived, Gu Xiruo was indeed impatiently, as if looking forward to replace someone.
