Chapter 102
Lu Weiguo knew people on both sides, so he introduced everyone properly.
Both sides were quite grateful to him.
Captain Han, being new to the Jinling Military District, found Lu Weiguo’s presence very helpful for getting his work started.
The people who had previously been under Captain Zhao also appreciated Lu Weiguo’s introduction, which made the atmosphere much more relaxed.
Lu Weiguo wasn’t usually a talkative person, but today he ended up talking almost as much as he would in a week to facilitate communication between the two sides.
During dinner, Mrs. Han called Han Wei out of his room.
He still had mud on his hands, so he went to wash up when his mother called him for dinner.
Mrs. Han glanced into his room and saw an easel and a half-finished clay sculpture on the desk.
She wasn’t just a doting mother; she genuinely thought her son’s paintings were quite good, and his clay sculptures were very lifelike.
He had previously painted portraits of her and Mr. Han, and they were very accurate.
However, Mr. Han felt his son had made him look ugly.
He had said, “What’s this supposed to be? A bear?”
Han Wei had retorted, “Dad, do you ever look in the mirror?”
That remark had set off a hornet’s nest, leading to daily arguments between father and son, causing Mrs. Han much distress.
Han Wei, after washing his hands, came into the main room.
A large round table was set up, and the guests had already taken their seats.
Lu Weiguo called out to him, “Xiaowei, come sit here.”
Han Wei glanced at Lu Weiguo and sat next to him.
Lu Weiguo was seated at the head of the table. Captain Han thought it wasn’t appropriate for Han Wei to sit there and wanted to make him change seats, but Lu Weiguo stopped him with a look.
Lu Weiguo introduced Han Wei to the other guests.
Han Wei greeted each of them politely.
He didn’t seem like a troublemaker.
Captain Han understood that Lu Weiguo was trying to introduce his son to the group.
By the end of the meal, Han Wei had developed a liking for his Uncle Lu.
Despite Lu Weiguo’s stern appearance and seemingly tough demeanor, he had a way of speaking that resonated with Han Wei, much more so than his own father.
Mrs. Han’s cooking might not have been as good as Shi Tingyu’s, but she didn’t skimp on ingredients. The meat dishes were plentiful, which was a treat in these times of scarcity, and everyone ate heartily.
After dinner, it was already past eight in the evening.
Everyone didn’t linger long and soon took their leave.
After sending everyone off, Captain Han helped Mrs. Han with the cleanup.
Han Wei also pitched in.
Mrs. Han smiled at this, “Xiaowei seems more cheerful today.”
Captain Han grumbled something but didn’t say anything to spoil the mood.
When Lu Weiguo returned home, Shi Tingyu had already washed up and was in bed.
Lu Weiguo checked the stove in the kitchen and found that the coal ball hadn’t been changed yet, so he didn’t hurry to bed.
When the water in the kettle boiled, he poured it into the thermos.
They had two thermoses in total; one was now full. He poured the boiling water into the empty one, mixing some cold water for washing up.
After washing up, Lu Weiguo replaced the coal ball in the stove and blocked the draft before going to bed.
Seeing him come to bed, Shi Tingyu moved over and snuggled into his arms.
It was almost December, and the nights were getting colder. With Lu Weiguo in bed, it was always warm. When she was alone, it wasn’t as cozy.
Thankfully, it wasn’t the depths of winter yet.
Lu Weiguo, with his large frame, almost enveloped her, keeping her warm enough to nearly fall asleep.
Half-asleep, she felt someone kissing her.
Opening her eyes, she saw her husband kissing her neck.
Now she was wide awake.
Seeing her awake, Lu Weiguo trapped her beneath him, “Wife, let’s warm up a bit with some exercise.”
Shi Tingyu loved seeing him like this.
Their post-marriage life had been blissful, and they had grown more in sync.
Their intimate moments were so satisfying that she had become addicted to his body.
Afterward, they both felt completely content.
Shi Tingyu lay limp, her arms weakly draped around his lean waist, her fair skin dotted with rosy marks. Her eyes were misty, and she whimpered softly, looking extremely delicate.
Lu Weiguo was stirred by her appearance, but seeing her so soft and pliant, he couldn’t bear to continue.
After helping her clean up, Shi Tingyu crawled into bed and fell asleep almost immediately.
Just before she drifted off, she thought to herself that an exhilarating round of exercise was indeed the best sleep aid.
Once Lu Weiguo finished tidying up, he climbed into bed and held her in his arms.
The conversation he had planned to have with her would have to wait.
The next morning, Lu Weiguo woke up before the morning reveille.
He saw a few leftover steamed buns from the previous day in the kitchen and decided to slice them, coat them in egg batter, and fry them until both sides were golden, just as Shi Tingyu had done before. He sprinkled a bit of pepper salt on top and they were ready.
He also made a bowl of plain noodles and served it with a side of spicy pickled radish.
Breakfast was ready just as the reveille sounded.
Lu Weiguo went to the bedroom and saw that his wife was indeed awake.
“Wife, time to get up for breakfast.”
Shi Tingyu stared blankly for a few seconds before gradually waking up. After a quick wash, she came to the dining table.
Seeing the breakfast laid out, she raised her eyebrows in surprise, “Did you make all this?”
Lu Weiguo replied, “I saw you do it before, so I gave it a try. It turned out okay.”
Shi Tingyu smiled and beckoned him closer with her finger. Lu Weiguo leaned down, and she cupped his face and kissed him on the lips.
“My man is amazing.”
Lu Weiguo felt quite proud after being praised.
Shi Tingyu let go of him and asked, “Aren’t you eating?”
She noticed there was only one bowl of noodles.
“I’ll eat after morning training. If I eat now, my stomach might hurt during training.”
Shi Tingyu didn’t press further.
Under her husband’s watchful gaze, she finished the noodles and ate several pieces of the fried buns with pepper salt.
After he left, she cleaned up her dishes.
As the weather got colder each day, Lu Weiguo didn’t let her handle much water.
With thicker clothes now, Lu Weiguo would do the laundry every evening.
He had a lot of strength, and heavy clothes seemed light as cotton in his hands.
When Shi Tingyu used to do the laundry, she often wished she had someone to help wring out the clothes. But in Lu Weiguo’s hands, he would grab both ends of the clothes and with a single twist, water would gush out.
When he hung the clothes to dry, they wouldn’t even drip, his efficiency was impressive.
So, now it was mostly Lu Weiguo doing the laundry.
After his morning training, Lu Weiguo came back to find his wife had already prepared noodles for him.
His training schedule was fixed, and when he returned, the noodles were just ready, perfectly timed by his wife.
Shi Tingyu chatted with him casually while he ate.
They didn’t have much time to talk normally; during the day, both were busy with work, and at night, they were usually too preoccupied with each other to discuss much else.
