Military Marriage in the ’70s: Her Popularity in the Family Compound After Joining the Army Chapter 109

Chapter 109

She was not one to be constrained by circumstances and quickly adjusted her mindset.

After leaving the post office, the two of them strolled around the city.

Shi Tingyu bought a pair of gloves for Lu Weiguo, specifically for riding the bike.

Lu Weiguo didn’t feel cold, but his wife thought he was, so he accepted the gloves.

Nevertheless, his heart felt warm.

Just then, a group of three people ran ahead of them, clutching a bag.

A middle-aged man, panting heavily, chased after them, shouting, “Stop, thief! They stole money!”

Due to the national conditions at the time, some young people, who didn’t need to go to the countryside or couldn’t find jobs, became idle and engaged in petty theft.

Even though Lu Weiguo wasn’t wearing his military uniform, he couldn’t just stand by.

He pushed Shi Tingyu into a nearby department store, telling her to wait inside, and then chased after the thieves.

He ran quickly, and with the crowded streets, riding the bike wasn’t convenient.

He swiftly locked the bike by the roadside and sprinted after them.

The thieves were familiar with the area and quickly darted into a narrow alley.

As soon as the three entered the alley, Lu Weiguo followed closely behind.

The middle-aged man, seeing someone chasing after the thieves, felt a bit relieved.

He had been shouting all along, but the onlookers, seeing there were three thieves, didn’t dare to intervene.

The money was for the wages of their factory workers that month. If the money was lost, how would he explain it to the workers and the factory?

Inside the alley, Lu Weiguo was a bit surprised to see the three thieves standing there.

Instead of continuing to run, they were waiting for him.

His sharp eyebrows raised slightly in surprise. Did they think he couldn’t handle them because they outnumbered him?

Indeed, the three thieves pulled out knives, looking menacingly at the man approaching them.

The tall leader shouted at Lu Weiguo, “If you want to live, I advise you not to meddle!”

As soon as he finished his threat, Lu Weiguo was only five meters away from them.

The shadows that had obscured his face lifted, revealing his deep-set eyes and a scar running from the corner of his eye to his cheekbone, giving him a menacing look.

His towering height made the three men instinctively step back.

The leader swallowed nervously, thinking they had encountered a dangerous rival.

They weren’t afraid of well-meaning citizens, but they didn’t dare provoke someone from the underworld.

They were just petty thieves, unlike those who had blood on their hands.

Despite holding knives to intimidate, they had never actually killed anyone.

They had no doubt the man before them had taken lives; his piercing gaze was enough to make their imaginations run wild.

One of the lackeys leaned in to his boss and whispered, “It’s just him alone. There are three of us. We might not lose.”

The leader tightened his grip on the black bag, feeling its solid contents, and decided to take a gamble.

He called out to Lu Weiguo, “Brother from the underworld, it’s fate that we meet. We’ll share some of this money with you, and you can pretend you never saw us.”

Lu Weiguo frowned, “Who the hell is your brother?”

The thieves, hearing his confident and confrontational tone, became more convinced that he was a gangster.

“Brother, we’re all from the same world. Why push so hard?” The leader tried to reason with him.

Lu Weiguo didn’t bother with more words. He stretched out his hand, “Give me what you stole.”

The leader, seeing that reasoning was useless, got angry. “Don’t think you’re all that just because I called you brother. If the three of us really fought you, you wouldn’t stand a chance.”

Lu Weiguo remained calm and took a few more steps towards them.

Those few steps seemed to cross the thieves’ comfort zone. The leader signaled to his two lackeys to attack.

The two lackeys lunged at Lu Weiguo.

“If you don’t value your life, we won’t hold back,” one of them shouted as he charged.

As the first attacker aimed at his face, Lu Weiguo swiftly grabbed his knife-wielding wrist, clamped down on his shoulder with the other hand, and slammed him to the ground.

He twisted the man’s wrist until he dropped the knife, screaming in pain.

Seeing their companion down, the second lackey aimed a stab at Lu Weiguo’s exposed back.

As if he had eyes on the back of his head, Lu Weiguo blocked the attack, quickly got up, and flipped the attacker over, slamming him hard to the ground.

The leader, seeing his two lackeys taken down, hesitated. But clutching the bag, he decided to run.

Lu Weiguo took a running start, used the alley wall to propel himself, and delivered a powerful kick, knocking the leader out cold.

The two lackeys, seeing this, struggled to get up and tried to flee in the opposite direction.

Before Lu Weiguo could chase them, they suddenly stopped in their tracks, staring at the entrance of the alley, backing away slowly.

Lu Weiguo looked up to see five policemen arriving at the alley entrance.

The thieves were more afraid of the police than of Lu Weiguo, assuming that the police would side with him against them.

Lu Weiguo didn’t waste words. He kicked the two lackeys towards the police.

The police quickly apprehended them.

Lu Weiguo handed the stolen bag to one of the officers, “This is the stolen bag.”

The officer glanced at Lu Weiguo. If it weren’t for the woman who reported the theft mentioning that her husband was a scar-faced soldier, they wouldn’t have believed he was helping.

He didn’t look like a good person at all.

But he said what needed to be said, “Thank you for your help, comrade soldier. Without you, these three might have escaped.”

The two thieves, pinned down, were stunned.

A soldier?!

Are you kidding us?

What kind of soldier looks this fierce?

They regretted thinking he was a gangster. If they had known he was a soldier, they wouldn’t have stuck around.

Just then, Shi Tingyu and the victim entered the alley, seeing that everything was settled.

Shi Tingyu nervously looked at Lu Weiguo, “Are you okay? Are you hurt?”

Lu Weiguo reassured her, “I’m fine, don’t worry.”

The two thieves were once again dumbfounded. How could someone who looked so fierce have such a beautiful partner?

It was clear they were a couple from Shi Tingyu’s intimate concern.

At that time, even holding hands in public could get you called out for being indecent.
