Military Marriage in the ’70s: Her Popularity in the Family Compound After Joining the Army Chapter 167

Chapter 167

Lu Weiguo strode into the police station like a comet, with Lu Wenbin and two young soldiers following briskly behind.

The police, seeing them in military uniforms, approached, knowing they must be the ones sent from the barracks to handle the spies.

Just as he was about to greet them, Lu Weiguo spotted his wife sitting on a bench against the wall.

Without saying anything, he nodded to the police comrades and headed straight for Shi Tingyu.

Shi Tingyu had noticed him the moment he entered. Seeing him look her way, she felt a twinge of guilt—not for catching the spies, but for causing him worry.

Considering how quickly they had arrived at the police station, his level of concern was evident.

After ensuring she was alright and not bleeding, Lu Weiguo hugged her and patted her gently. He was tall himself, standing as he was, and when he hugged Shi Tingyu, her head bumped against his waist.

He was genuinely worried. Normally, he wouldn’t embrace her like this in public, especially in these less permissive times.

Shi Tingyu pushed him away slightly, saying, “I’m fine, the comrades from the police station are watching.”

Lu Weiguo frowned at her words, then released her arms and looked at them. When he saw the bruises and scratches on her arms and knuckles, his thin lips involuntarily tightened.

He held her hand, examining it closely, and after a while, he said, “When we get back, I’ll take you to the hospital for a check-up.”

Shi Tingyu obediently nodded.

“Are there any other injuries? Any other parts of your body feeling uncomfortable?”

Shi Tingyu quickly replied that there weren’t.

Just as she was about to say something about the spies, Lu Wenchan’s loud sobbing could be heard nearby.

“Brother, I was so scared just now!”

Having just heard from the police that his sister had used a brick to hit the spies, Lu Wenbin initially thought his sister had finally toughened up, but he realized she was still the same as she was when she cried loudly as a child.

However, seeing her experience such a frightening ordeal, he patiently comforted her for a long time.

Lu Weiguo looked at his delicate-looking wife, who hadn’t shed a tear at this moment, feeling an indescribable bitterness in his heart.

Typically, when female comrades went through life-threatening situations, even if they didn’t cry as loudly as Lu Wenchan, they would at least have teary eyes.

But she didn’t. He wished she would cry her heart out to him right now.

Lu Wenchan’s crying gradually stopped amidst Lu Wenbin’s comforting words, and the police comrades also breathed a sigh of relief; this female comrade’s voice was really loud.

The police who had followed Lu Wenchan to the scene briefed them on what had happened.

Shi Tingyu filled in the police with details they didn’t know.

From leaving the Supply and Marketing Cooperative to overhearing the spies’ conversation, to finally knocking down the spies with a brick, she recounted every detail.

Lu Weiguo understood everything after hearing this.

After the police finished their briefing, Lu Weiguo was ready to take his team back.

Shi Tingyu stood up, swaying a bit. Quick to react, Lu Weiguo supported her.

“What’s wrong? Did you injure your leg?”

Uncomfortably smiling, Shi Tingyu whispered, “Maybe I exerted too much force. My legs are sore now.”

When she had initially fought the spies, adrenaline had masked any pain. Now that it had subsided, she felt sore all over, especially in her limbs and fingers.

Lu Weiguo bent down and lifted her horizontally.

With his right hand supporting her back, he held her against his shoulder.

Shi Tingyu rested her head on his shoulder, and he carried her out of the police station.

The two young soldiers quickly followed with the captured spies.

Lu Weiguo placed her in the car.

Lu Wenbin also arranged for his sister to sit in the back seat.

One of the young soldiers, seeing Lu Weiguo’s stern expression, cautiously asked, “Captain, how are we going back?”

Shi Tingyu leaned against the car window and said, “Weiguo, my bicycle is still at the police station.”

Lu Wenchan heard this and quickly added, “My bicycle is also here.”

In the yard of the police station, Lu Weiguo spotted the bicycles. Next to them, the one without the police station mark should be the Lu family’s bicycle.

“You two, take those bikes and follow us back,” Lu Weiguo instructed.

The two men saluted Lu Weiguo and Lu Wenbin. “Yes, sir!”

The two spies had regained some strength by now, but the thought of walking back to the barracks nearly made them faint. Normally, this distance wouldn’t be an issue, but their injuries were still bothering them, especially the man in the blue shirt whose legs were trembling as he walked.

Lu Weiguo watched their expressions coldly. “If you don’t want to walk back, you can run.”

Immediately, they complied.

He didn’t want these men dirtying the military vehicle by sitting in it. As soldiers, they detested those who disrupted national stability the most. If it weren’t for their injuries and the risk of accidentally killing them with a punch, he’d have given them a good beating.

So, Lu Weiguo drove, Lu Wenbin sat in the passenger seat, while Shi Tingyu and Lu Wenchan sat in the back.

The car started slowly, and there was an awkward atmosphere inside. Only occasionally did Lu Weiguo and Lu Wenbin’s conversation break the silence.

Shi Tingyu was someone who focused on tasks rather than personalities. This time, Lu Wenchan had helped her, so she thanked her. Lu Wenchan snorted coldly; she had indeed helped Shi Tingyu, driven by patriotic fervor. As for Shi Tingyu herself, she wished she had been unlucky.

If those two spies had been robbers, she wouldn’t have intervened. She might have even enjoyed watching from the sidelines.

Seeing his sister like this, Lu Wenbin glanced awkwardly at Lu Weiguo, who was driving.

“Captain Lu, sorry about my sister. She’s not very sensible.”

Lu Weiguo kept his eyes straight ahead. “Your sister did help this time. We appreciate the thanks. As for her attitude, we don’t mind.”

It sounded like a compliment, but it was awkward to say.

Lu Wenbin was good at persuasion work, but he found he had no way with his sister. She had done a good deed this time, but her words and actions were still lacking.

Instead of heading back to the barracks, the car headed towards the military hospital.

Shi Tingyu was carried out of the car by Lu Weiguo and rushed to the clinic.

There weren’t many people there, so there was no need to wait in line.

The doctor was taken aback by the sight.

“What’s the patient’s condition?”

Lu Weiguo showed the doctor the injuries on Shi Tingyu’s wrist. “She was in a fight just now. She’s sore all over now. Could you please check if there’s anything wrong?”

The doctor was relaxed upon hearing this and carefully examined Shi Tingyu. After a thorough check-up, he said, “She’s fine. Just a bit tired. There’s some swelling and redness on her arms, but nothing serious. I’ll give you some ointment to apply. If there are bruises elsewhere, you can use this to massage them.”

Lu Weiguo noted everything down.

The doctor continued, “She might feel sore for a few days, but it should gradually improve. Don’t worry too much.”

After they left the clinic, Lu Wenbin and Lu Wenchan were already waiting outside.
