Chapter 168
Lu Weiguo supported Shi Tingyu slowly, looking concerned. “Are you sure you don’t want me to carry you?”
“No need.”
Seeing them come out, Lu Wenbin couldn’t help but ask, “How is Comrade Shi? What did the doctor say?”
Shi Tingyu replied, “I’m fine. The bruises just need some ointment.”
“That’s good,” Lu Wenbin said.
He dreaded seeing someone appear fine on the outside but bleeding internally.
When Lu Weiguo and the others returned to the barracks by car, the two soldiers had already arrived with the spies.
After dropping off Shi Tingyu at home and giving her a glass of water, Lu Weiguo returned to the barracks, looking worried.
Seeing him approach, Captain Han couldn’t resist scolding him, “There’s no rush here. You should go back and take care of your wife first. I heard she can’t even stand up. After all, catching the spies was her achievement today.”
Indeed, Lu Weiguo was worried about Shi Tingyu’s condition, so he went back home.
As he left, Captain Han shouted, “Don’t forget to ride your wife’s bicycle back.”
Lu Weiguo nodded and went.
The bicycle was at the doorstep, and Lu Weiguo pushed it back.
Given his height, riding his wife’s bike was a bit awkward for him.
When Shi Tingyu saw Lu Weiguo return, she asked in surprise, “Why are you back?”
Carrying the oil and water kettle into the house, Lu Weiguo replied, “Captain Han asked me to come back. I also don’t feel at ease leaving you alone at home.”
At noon, Lu Weiguo cooked soup to nourish Shi Tingyu.
Shi Tingyu went along with it.
After lunch, Lu Weiguo heated water again, intending to help his wife take a bath.
In the process, he could check if there were any other injuries on her body and apply the ointment.
Although this wasn’t their first intimate encounter, it was the first time they had done so in broad daylight.
Shi Tingyu’s skin was fair, and there were bruises of varying degrees on her forearms, calves, and back, all from the fight earlier.
Lu Weiguo washed her clean, dried her off, and wrapped her up before carrying her to bed.
Snuggled in the blanket, Shi Tingyu looked pitifully at him. “Weiguo, could you skip the ointment? I actually think it’s easier to let these bruises heal on their own.”
Lu Weiguo firmly refused, “No.”
Finally, amidst Shi Tingyu’s occasional cries of pain, the ointment was applied.
After helping his wife dress, Lu Weiguo stayed by Shi Tingyu’s side until she fell asleep.
The morning’s physical exertion had been too much for her, and she quickly drifted off.
Lu Weiguo held her close, silently resolving to increase his martial arts training time in the future.
Thankfully, those two men hadn’t been very skilled in combat, and he had been initially deceived by his wife’s fragile appearance. He had underestimated the situation. If such a thing happened again in the future, it might not be so easily handled.
The next day, Lu Weiguo took a leave of absence for Shi Tingyu.
Shi Tingyu actually felt capable, but whenever Lu Weiguo saw her making bigger movements, he couldn’t help but hiss in concern, feeling that she needed to rest for a few more days.
Meanwhile, there was progress with the two spies.
According to their confession, protests and gatherings were escalating in many places. They received orders to infiltrate these gatherings and escalate tensions, ideally leading to violent clashes, stirring up internal turmoil.
They also revealed their accomplices.
The camp quickly mobilized and captured six spies in a row.
After reporting the situation, Captain Han looked deeply concerned.
Lu Weiguo came in to report, seeing his troubled expression, couldn’t help but ask, “Is something wrong?”
Captain Han sighed, “Our Jinling is like this, and I suspect other places won’t be peaceful either, especially places like Jing and Hu. It feels like trouble is brewing.”
But Lu Weiguo’s eyes gleamed with determination. He said, “I don’t see turmoil; I see the dawn of stability.”
Captain Han was briefly stunned. After pondering deeply, the worry in his eyes gradually faded, and after a long while, he burst into laughter. “Alright, I see it’s you who truly understands now. Looks like you have a good chance for promotion this year.”
“Hard to say this year, but sooner or later doesn’t matter.”
Once the major operation was over, his father-in-law and mother-in-law would naturally have no reason to prevent his promotion.
Shortly after the Qingming Festival, there was a collective protest in the Jingshi Square. Although they didn’t achieve their goal, it strengthened some people’s resolve to end the chaos.
It was the season of spring blossoms, and the flowers in the Lu family’s yard were particularly vibrant. Shi Tingyu’s mood soared every day.
Opening the door to a yard full of blooming flowers was a joyous sight to behold.
During this time, Shi Tingyu also added some vegetables and crops to their space. Not a large quantity, but enough for the two of them.
Some of the surplus items were occasionally sent to their elders and her brother.
That night, after dinner, Lu Weiguo took Shi Tingyu to the camp.
During dinner, Lu Weiguo had already mentioned to Shi Tingyu that Captain Han wanted her to teach English to their soldiers.
Because in a month’s time, Lu Weiguo would be going to the United States for a mission.
They arrived at the classroom where Shi Tingyu used to teach the soldiers.
Captain Han was also there.
Seeing Shi Tingyu arrive, he smiled sincerely, “Little sister is here again, I’m troubling you this time.”
“No trouble, it’s what I should do,” Shi Tingyu said.
If language could help them complete their tasks more easily, she was happy to help.
Captain Han explained the mission to Shi Tingyu, “Next month’s mission is mainly to escort Professor Chen Xueru and his family back to the country, so focus on commonly used English phrases during Professor’s lessons.”
Shi Tingyu nodded in understanding.
Thinking about the mission to bring Professor back to the country reminded her of their family’s return.
Back then, it was these soldiers who came to escort them.
From escorting people to returning home, there were many twists and turns. From the original owner’s memories, Shi Tingyu could understand some situations that might occur.
“Don’t worry, Captain Han. I’m familiar with this matter. Our family was also brought back like this.”
Lu Weiguo looked at her with a touched expression and gently held her hand.
Shi Tingyu smiled and said to Captain Han, “Leave the language part to me. When should we start the lessons?”
Captain Han was someone who took action. He immediately gathered people and said they would start tonight.
Although Shi Tingyu hadn’t prepared any teaching materials, starting the session wasn’t difficult.
With her being the teacher and Lu Weiguo having more opportunities to learn, at home he often spoke a bit awkward English.
Shi Tingyu patiently corrected his pronunciation and repeatedly went over scenes from their initial escort, which helped Lu Weiguo progress rapidly.
During evening classes, she could also assist Shi Tingyu and collaborate on some scenario-based exercises.
Time quickly passed to May, and Lu Weiguo and the others were ready to depart.
Although Lu Weiguo’s English was still not ideal, he could understand some commonly used phrases in special situations.
Having experienced similar events in the original body’s memories, these scenes continued to flash through Shi Tingyu’s mind. Therefore, she felt particularly anxious about this mission.
She silently prayed in her heart that this mission would be successful.
