My Silly Boyfriend
My Silly Boyfriend chapter 8 : Storytelling

After Jing Ran tutoring Jing Li every evening for more than a week, the day of the makeup exam finally arrived. There were quite a few people who failed the calculus course in the Management Department, with 60 out of 400 students in the management class participating in the makeup exam.

Jing Li’s exam seat was located in front of the podium in the large classroom. She just received her exam paper. Jing Li picked up her pen and quickly filled in the answers. The exam lasted for one and a half hours, and Jing Li handed in her paper half an hour after it started. The other students taking the makeup exam in the large classroom were stunned. How did she manage to complete the challenging calculus problems that couldn’t be finished in just one and a half hours?

Jing Li’s grades were consistently at the lower end of the class, leading everyone to speculate: had she given up struggling?

It was Saturday afternoon, with no classes scheduled. Jing Ran waited for Jing Li outside the classroom in the corridor. The March sunlight was bright and beautiful, and Jing Ran was wearing a black polyester sports outfit that outlined his figure.

Jing Ran was quite slim, but not as skinny as some other guys. He looked more sturdy than them.

Jing Li stood in the corridor, watching Jing Ran against the backdrop of the balcony railing where he was admiring the view. She raised her left hand, blocking the view of Jing Ran’s mushroom-like haircut. Without looking at his face, his physique was still considered good.

After all, Jing Ran was 1.85 meters tall and had long legs.

Suddenly, Jing Ran turned around and saw that Jing Li had already come out. He asked, “You finished so quickly? I thought I’d have to wait a while.”

“It was quite easy,” Jing Li replied. Although she didn’t finish the entire exam paper, she estimated that she would get around 60 points.

Jing Ran had really put a lot of effort into teaching Jing Li calculus during this week, and some of the concepts finally made their way into her mind. So, today Jing Li wanted to treat Jing Ran to a meal outside of school.

Jing Ran nodded and walked over. Jing Li had been looking at his awkward mushroom-like haircut. If he just fixed his hair and got a trendy hairstyle, it wouldn’t necessarily improve his appearance, but at least he would look like a normal person, right?

Jing Li took a glance and asked, “Ran Ran, have you ever thought about changing your hairstyle?”

“What’s wrong? Is it not good-looking?” Jing Ran raised his hand to scratch the back of his head.

Jing Li forced a smile. Did he really think it looked good?

She replied, “I think you could choose something better.”

“My grandma says she likes my hairstyle the most.”

“Okay…” Jing Li felt that he wasn’t her real boyfriend, so she didn’t have the right to interfere so much.

Jing Li had been with Jing Ran for two weeks, and she heard the most about his grandma.

But that’s how Chinese families are. When young people go out to work, they leave their children in the care of their parents. Jing Li’s family was a bit special. First, her parents studied and worked in the United States when they were young and even brought both sets of grandparents to enjoy life in the United States. Later, when Jing Li was ten years old, her parents were sent by their company to manage the business of the Chinese branch, so Jing Li returned to China with her parents while the grandparents stayed in the United States.

Due to Jing’s parents being busy with work, Jing Li lived in boarding schools from primary school to university, so her sense of family was relatively weak.

Anyway, she wouldn’t mention her family members like Jing Ran often did.

Jing Ran asked, “Where are we going?”

Jing Li suggested, “How about spicy hot pot?”

“I can’t eat spicy food.”

“Korean barbecue?”

“That’s too greasy!”

“Japanese sushi?”

“I’m afraid of parasites.”

“Western-style steak?”

“I don’t like Western food.”

Wait, hold on, isn’t this kind of conversation supposed to be where the boyfriend suggests and the girlfriend rejects? How did it turn into the opposite for this “couple”?

The top student really is quite a straightforward person!

“Well, what do you want to eat?” Jing Li couldn’t think of anything and directly asked the top student.

“Eat at the cafeteria.”

Top student, why are you so honest? When someone invites you to eat, you actually want to eat at the cafeteria!

J University is in the outskirts of City G. Jing Li originally planned to go to the city around 4 p.m., which would take about an hour by bus, just in time for a meal. They could have dinner in the city and also go to a large supermarket to buy daily necessities.

Since the top student doesn’t want to eat out and it’s not yet mealtime, Jing Li had to change the plan. They decided to go to the supermarket near the campus to buy some daily necessities first, and then have dinner at the cafeteria.

After finishing the shopping, Jing Li brought the things back to the dormitory and then went to the cafeteria with Jing Ran to have dinner. Jing Ran ordered two dishes, one vegetarian and one with meat, just as usual. Jing Li felt that this wasn’t very sincere, so she added an extra chicken leg to his order.

Jing Li’s three roommates are from the same city and usually go home on weekends. Jing Li, on the other hand, is from a neighboring city, and if she takes the campus shuttle, it only takes an hour to get there. However, her parents are usually busy on weekends, so even if she goes home, she would be alone. Therefore, during the semester, she doesn’t go home unless her parents ask her to.

Jing Li casually asked, “Ran Ran, what are you going to do tonight?” Jing Ran answered while eating, “I’m going to the library to study.”

It seems like the top student doesn’t have anything else to do besides studying.

“Oh,” Jing Li thought about what movie she should watch alone in the dorm tonight.

Jing Ran remembered that she mentioned last week that she’s always alone in the dorm on weekends and might get bored, so he said, “Do you want to accompany me to the library to study?”
Jing Li: …
Is this a joke? Asking an underachiever to go to the library to study?

In the end, Jing Li still accompanied Jing Ran to study in the library’s self-study room. While Jing Ran was studying, Jing Li was holding an iPad and watching movies with earphones on.

Until 9 o’clock in the evening, when the library closed, the two of them took a walk on campus. They felt a bit awkward and didn’t speak. Jing Li suddenly had an idea and said, “Ranran, tell me a story.”

“Did you know that the school used to be a burial ground?”

What a strange beginning!

“There was often paranormal activity in the art building. There was a dance studio on the top floor with a large floor-to-ceiling mirror…”

Jing Li was a little scared but curious, so she swallowed and continued listening.
“It is said that every evening at 5 o’clock, when the dance class was practicing there, even though there were only six people dancing, the mirror would reflect seven people…”

“And, in the art building, every day at 2 o’clock in the morning, there would be a soprano singing. The people in the 5th dormitory building often heard it…”

“I… I live in the 5th dormitory building, but I have never heard a soprano singing in the middle of the night,” Jing Li said, feeling a bit afraid.

“That doesn’t happen anymore. A few years ago, the school held a ritual and splashed dog’s blood on the back mountain…”

Unconsciously, the two of them arrived at the 5th dormitory building. Jing Li glanced at the adjacent art building and for some reason, suddenly felt that the art building was particularly eerie tonight…

She thought about how she was alone in the dormitory today…

Suddenly, she couldn’t take a step forward to enter the 5th dormitory building…

Suddenly, she felt so scared…

‘I wanted to cry…’

Tears unknowingly streamed down her face…

“Waaah… Ranran, you big meanie! Waaah… I’m too scared to go back to the dorm… Mmm…”

Jing Ran didn’t expect Jing Li to suddenly start crying, so he quickly explained, “Just now, I was making it all up…”
