Chapter 3

Si Yueyue looked around but didn’t spot any suspicious individuals.

She was then shocked to see the baby formula gift box that appeared out of nowhere. This wasn’t something that belonged in this time… huh? This looks just like the baby formula she bought yesterday!

She had specifically purchased the baby formula gift box to visit a relative who had just given birth the next day, but now it had appeared here? Could it be some sort of time-traveling good luck charm?

What kind of good luck charm was this? A system? A space?

The scene shifted.

Si Yueyue looked at the bright light overhead and the beautiful wall decorations, stunned as she glanced around. Wasn’t this her rented apartment? Had she traveled through time?

Huh, no, wait, Lele was still in her arms, and the clothes she wore were from the 1970s.

Could this be the time-traveling good luck charm? A rented space?

Si Yueyue, full of doubt, wandered around the house. When she entered the bathroom, it was no longer as messy as when she had left it. It was now clean and tidy, unused.

The mirror in the bathroom reflected her current self. Si Yueyue, in shock, reached up and touched her cheek.

She looked exactly the same as before, even the tear mole hadn’t changed. The only difference was that she looked much more youthful compared to the version of herself worn down by work.

This was all thanks to the Lei Family. Otherwise, in this time of scarce resources, how could she have looked so well? No wonder people were jealous.

At that moment, the pitiful Lele in her arms started crying loudly. Si Yueyue, feeling heartbroken, thought about finding food for the child. The baby formula was already in the room, but she had to figure out how to prepare it.

But… how did she even get in here? If this was the rented space, did she just say something to enter?

The scene flashed, and Si Yueyue was at the Lei Family’s house.

Knock, knock, knock… “Yueyue, mom’s coming in.”

Si Yueyue, hearing the knock, quickly hid the baby formula in the wardrobe. After securing it, she sighed in relief, never expecting to hide it in the space.

Just as she sat down on the heated brick bed, Zhao Cuilan entered with a bowl of rice soup: “The rice soup’s ready, quickly feed it to the child to settle his stomach.”

“Eh~ okay.”

Si Yueyue spooned small amounts of rice soup into Lele’s mouth. Little Lele smacked his lips when the soup touched his mouth.

“Ah, it seems the child is really starving, look at how he’s smacking his lips. It’s so pitiful…”

“Mom, don’t worry. Once I’m feeling better, I’ll figure out a way to earn money and buy some baby formula for the child.”

“You, don’t worry about making money right now. Just focus on taking care of the babies. Your father and I are still here. You gave birth to twins this time—you must rest well during your postpartum recovery. Don’t harm your health.” said her mother.

“Mom, I understand.” Si Yueyue said so with her mouth, but in her heart, she was still thinking about finding a way. Otherwise, how was she going to bring out that baby formula?

“Your dad named the babies based on the nicknames you gave them. Their generation’s character is Qing. An An is Lei Qing’an, and Lele is Lei Qingle.”

Si Yueyue murmured a few times: “Sounds nice. We’ll register their household under those names then.”

“Let your dad handle the registration when the time comes.”

“Alright. Thanks for making the trip, Dad.”

“What thanks? They’re his grandsons. Alright, you take care of the babies. I’m going to help your sister-in-law cook.”

———

Over in the backyard, the old man walked toward the river with his eldest son. On the way, they bumped into a few of the family’s kids who were playing outside.

At this hour, every household was busy preparing dinner. Only the kids who had just gotten out of school were still playing outside.

The three siblings shouted in unison: “Grandpa! Dad!”

“Hmm, why aren’t you home yet after school? It’ll be dinner soon. Qingshan, Qingyao, have you finished your homework?”

“Dad, we finished it at school. Otherwise, how could we be out playing?”

“Alright, head back home first. Your third aunt gave birth to two little brothers for you today. Hurry back and have a look before the babies go to sleep.”

“Huh? Third Aunt gave birth to baby brothers?”

“Yep.”

The youngest, Lei Qingyun, cheered, waving his hands excitedly. “Oh~ oh~ I have little brothers now! I’m no longer the youngest in the family!”

The three children were coaxed home by Lei Jun to see their baby brothers, while the father and son continued walking toward the river. When they arrived, they placed their baskets into the water.

Let’s see if they got lucky.

The father and son sat patiently by the river, waiting. After about ten minutes, Lei Jun heard the sound of splashing water and rushed over to check the basket they had set.

“Whoa—Dad, we got fish! And they’re pretty big!” Lei Jun grinned broadly, revealing his white teeth as he beamed foolishly at Lei Dashu.

Lei Dashu glared at his son. “Keep your voice down. Do you want the whole world to know?”

Chastised by his father, Lei Jun quieted down, though his big toothy grin never faded. He silently reached over to pull up the other bamboo basket.

Lei Dashu glanced at the basket—just one fish was enough to satisfy him. “Cover it with some pig grass.”

After hiding the fish with pig grass and gathering the two baskets, the father and son began making their way home.

At that moment, the three children who had sprinted all the way home were inside the house, shouting and clamoring to see their baby brothers.

Lei Qingyun’s little face was flushed with excitement. “Mommy, where are the babies?”

Zhang Guihua, who was cooking, glanced at her youngest son and replied: “The babies are in your Second Brother-in-law’s room. You three better not disturb them while they’re resting.”

“But Mommy, we really want to see the babies.”

“When I take food over to your Second Brother-in-law in a bit, I’ll bring you with me to take a quick look. For now, go sit in the main hall and wait.”

“Okay~” the children obediently sat in a row.

A short while later, Zhao Cuilan handed a bowl of rice porridge and a boiled egg to Zhang Guihua. “Guihua, take this over to your sister-in-law first.”

“Alright, Mom.”

Carrying the food, Zhang Guihua walked out. As she passed through the main hall, the three children stared at the boiled egg in her hand and swallowed hard—but they were well-behaved and didn’t ask to eat it.

“Mom, I’ll open the door for you.” said Lei Qingyao, patting her backside as she stood up.

“Alright. Yaoyao, knock first.”

Lei Qingyao knocked on the door, and only after hearing Second Brother-in-law respond did she gently push the door open and step aside to let her mother enter.

Zhang Guihua looked back at her two sons. “Come in quickly. Don’t let the wind blow in. The babies are still small and can’t be exposed to drafts.”

Hearing their mother’s words, the two boys quickly darted into the room.

When Si Yueyue saw Zhang Guihua and the three children enter, she smiled and patted the edge of the kang bed. “Eldest Brother-in-law, Shanzi, Yaoyao, Xiaoyun, come sit over here.”

“Second Brother-in-law, Xiaoyun wants to see the babies.” the youngest, Lei Qingyun, said eagerly as he poked his head forward to look at the two little ones lying on the kang, flailing their hands and feet.

Si Yueyue smiled and said: “Come on up and take a look. Second Brother-in-law will hold you.”

She had even accepted the memories of her past self—otherwise, she would’ve been fumbling in confusion for quite some time.

“Eh~ the three kids wanted to see their little brothers, so I brought them in. You go ahead and eat something first. I’ll watch the children.” Zhang Guihua said.

“Alright, thank you, Eldest Sister-in-law.” Si Yueyue replied politely.

The three children climbed up onto the kang and gathered around the two little babies in the middle, examining them and commenting.

“Why is the baby’s skin so red? He looks like a little monkey.” Lei Qingshan said.

Upon hearing her eldest son, Zhang Guihua quickly interjected: “What are you saying? These little brothers look way better than you all did at their age. If they look like monkeys, then think about what you must’ve looked like!”

“Huh? But I don’t think Yaoyao or Xiaoyun looked like monkeys either.” Lei Qingshan said, blinking his big eyes as he glanced at his younger siblings.

“That’s because you’ve all grown up now. When you were as small as your little brothers, you looked just like this.”

“Really?”

“Of course. Would your mom lie to you?”

“Mom, Mom… look how tiny the babies are! They’re way smaller than Xiaoyun!” Lei Qingyun said excitedly, making a small round shape with his hands to show his mother.

More observant than her brothers, Yaoyao looked at the two babies and asked: “Second Sister-in-law, which one is the older brother? What are their names?”

“The one in blue is the older brother—his nickname is An An. The one in green is the younger brother—his nickname is Lele.”

“The younger brother’s name sounds really nice.” Yaoyao said with admiration.

Zhang Guihua nodded in agreement. Just earlier in the kitchen, she had already heard Zhao Cuilan mention the names.

“Of course it sounds nice. Your Second Sister-in-law is an educated woman. How could she give them names that don’t sound good? You all need to study hard too, so that someday you can name your own kids with good names.”

“Pfft~ Eldest Brother-in-law, they’re still so little, and you’re already thinking that far ahead?”

“Hahaha… well, I just want them to study hard. Otherwise, they’ll end up like their sister-in-law—can’t even recognize a single character. What if they get tricked and don’t even know it?”

“That’s true. Studying more is always good. Learning never stops. Even now, Sister-in-law, you can still learn. When I’ve got free time, I’ll teach you.” Si Yueyue offered.

Zhang Guihua’s eyes lit up instantly. “Really? I’m already this age… can I still learn? I might not be able to remember anything.”

“Of course you can. There’s a saying: ‘Live and learn.’ You can learn at any age. It’s never too late.”

“Alright, then I’ll listen to you. I’ll learn more from you when we have free time, so I can at least recognize a few characters. That way, I won’t be completely clueless when I leave the house.”
