Chapter 14 2/2
“What’s going on?
Jiang Li maintained composure, saying, ‘I’ve seriously considered it, and this is not what I want.’
‘That drug isn’t mature yet; the side effects are unclear; you don’t have to worry about it,’ Jiang Lu said nonchalantly, gritting his teeth. ‘You, a beta from an orphanage, marrying me is already your best choice.’
Jiang Li intended to hang up the phone. If it weren’t for the sake of the mentor, he wouldn’t waste time talking to Jiang Lu.
‘The official publication of Jiangshi Pharmaceutical is about to release the molecular structure of the lichen derivative for anti-thymus tumor,’ Jiang Lu said lightly.
Jiang Li was stunned.
Jiang Lu continued, ‘A student without confidentiality ability, can you still graduate? Will the research institute still want you? ‘
‘You need this research very much. Without it, you won’t graduate, right? Please reconsider my proposal.’
Jiang Li clenched the brochure and hung up the phone, feeling bone-chilling in the December air.
It turned out that Jiang Lu’s intentional pursuit in the past few days was a show for others—look, Jiang Li brought his pursuit target to the laboratory, causing leaks, and love distracted from scientific research.
Although the person was brought in by Professor Wang, if Jiang Lu said he pursued him, would anyone believe the explanation? People always chase after sensational news.
Jiang Li took a deep breath, feeling the cold wind penetrating the bones. He messaged Wang Xuning, asking, ‘Did you show the structure to Jiang Lu? ‘
Wang Xuning replied quickly, after a moment of silence, ‘He is very interested, so I showed it to him. It’s a waste without a synthesis path.’
‘What if they also manufacture it? ‘ Jiang Li asked.
Wang Xuning sighed, ‘The Jiang family is willing to invest in clinical research. Isn’t that good? ‘
‘Why? ‘ Jiang Li inquired.
Wang Xuning didn’t speak for a moment and then said, ‘You were assigned to me by the dean. I never interfered with your research topics, R&D funds, or laboratory. You are capable, and your younger students catch on quickly.’
‘I, as the director, have nothing else to do but attract project investments for you. The Jiang family is sincere. Find a way for your younger students, too. Non-military scientific research results: share half, sell half. That’s how it goes.’
‘Jiang Li, can’t you agree to even this? ‘ Wang Xuning said.
‘After all, I am your mentor.’
‘If you really don’t want to, refuse him; sue him if necessary. Consider my efforts in networking for the past two years as in vain.’
‘Do you even know what kind of person Jiang Lu is? ‘
Jiang Li’s throat tightened. Wang Xuning didn’t know. A slight deviation could render all his efforts in vain.
If the Jiang family aggressively promoted the imperfect drug, the side effects might overwhelm its efficacy. Then, Jiang Li’s graduation project would be invalidated; even with improvements, its effectiveness remained uncertain.
He confirmed he was pregnant and prepared everything, but in the end?
It’s a joke. Six months remain; even if he starts over, he still has a chance.
He has a better pheromone topic, like his own pheromones.
It can cause alpha impotence and soothe pheromone storm syndrome—what a big selling point!
Jiang Li understood the principle of bearing the consequences, so despite many peculiarities about himself, he didn’t delve into them. He wanted to investigate when he had the capability, especially now that he had a child to consider health-wise.
It’s not the time to be forced… not yet!
Jiang Li steadied his mind; he couldn’t lose his composure. He had many things to deal with.
Fingers warmed his belly in his pocket; he didn’t want Jiang Lu, who was following him, to see what was in the locker, not even take his coat.
Jiang Li walked straight to a familiar car near the school gate. When he got close, Cen Lang happened to lower the car window.
“So coincidental?” Cen Lang smiled.
“It’s cold. Can I get in?” Jiang Li asked.
“Sure.” Cen Lang raised the temperature and tossed a piece of clothing to him.
Jiang Li instinctively blocked it with his hand, so the coat wouldn’t cover his mouth and nose.
After a moment, he remembered that he couldn’t smell Cen Lang’s pheromones. There wouldn’t be the scent of an alpha on this coat.
The smell was a faint soap scent; there was no perfume or smoke.
The cold wind had made Jiang Li’s face chilly, and he covered his belly with the clothes, feeling warmth.
The warm wind was quite comfortable.
Jiang Li returned to his senses from his frozen state. Somehow, he felt that Jiang Lu’s threat wasn’t a big deal, even a bit ridiculous. At first glance, it seemed like, facing the colossal Jiangshi Pharmaceutical, there was no way out.
Compared to the Alphas in the underground city, what was he to the other biological father of the child facing such a situation now?
In this instant, a flash of white light crossed Jiang Li’s mind. He suddenly remembered why, two weeks into pregnancy, he didn’t have a pheromone dependency.
Either he was special or he had actually been in contact with an Alpha.
For some reason, Jiang Li pretended to sniff Cen Lang’s coat and asked, “What does your pheromone smell like?”
There shouldn’t be many Alphas and Omegas in the world without a scent, right? At least, he had never heard of it before his differentiation.
Looking at Jiang Li through the rearview mirror, Cen Lang is trying to probe his pheromones.
Cen Lang looked pleased. “A clean and self-disciplined Alpha, the pheromone scent is like the color of his underwear. It shouldn’t be easily revealed. Are you sure you want to know?”
Jiang Li, agreeing, said, “Firstly, I very much agree that Alphas should manage their pheromones well. Secondly, what does that mean?”
“Don’t you know that when Alpha relaxes, a small amount of pheromones leak out, just like a small amount of color fading when underwear is washed? It’s not private.” Jiang Li bit his lip. “Oh, someone with your status probably doesn’t know that underwear can fade.”
Cen Lang: “…” How did I not know?
