Chapter 23 2/2
The eyes surveyed the narrow bathroom, considering where else cleanliness could be improved.
For some reason, Jiang Li only dared to clean secretly while taking a shower. Cen Lang estimated that Jiang Li took quite a long time to shower.
The bathroom door opened with a click, revealing a beautiful Beta with rosy cheeks and dark half-damp hair, holding clothes that were already washed and placing them one by one into the dryer.
Cen Lang averted his gaze and said, “No hairdryer; dry your hair yourself.”
People in the military kept their hair short; a quick blow in the bathroom was enough to dry it. Jiang Li, being a bit longer, could only dry it halfway.
Jiang Li touched the ends of his hair. It was a bit longer here, allowing him to conceal transparent suppressive patches. However, since he was pregnant and not in a sensitive period, he could cut it short now.
“Okay.”
“By the way, are there a few military doctors specializing in pheromones at the base?” Jiang Li remembered something. Why did every Alpha seem eager for him to stay at the base?
The space force was a pioneering exploration force, and they faced radiation everywhere. The fluctuation of pheromone levels in the body was unpredictable.
“I don’t know how to thank them. If there are any difficult issues regarding pheromones, I can help take a look,” Cen Lang replied.
“Hmm, I’ll ask later,” Cen Lang said.
Jiang Li leaned over and looked at Cen Lang expectantly. “Can you ask now? We don’t have much time to stay.”
Under such a gaze, Cen Lang instinctively took out his phone. Opening the communication group in front of Jiang Li was the right thing to do. After clicking on the officer group, Cen Lang hesitated. No, the chat records in this group couldn’t be seen.
He turned to an announcement group and typed, “Third Military Academy Pheromone Department graduate clinic Q&A.” Jiang Li requested to add the word “graduate,” so those leaning towards experienced doctors could skip this message. “There shouldn’t be too many people coming, right?” Both of them thought without prior agreement.
As Cen Lang was having these thoughts, he remembered something and quickly opened a small group, instructing them not to spread rumors.
[Big brother, a bit late.]
Even ordinary Alphas wanted to see the sister-in-law.
Cen Lang switched back to the large group and said indifferently, “Idle talk, run twenty laps on the playground.” The world became considerably quieter.
In reality, there were quite a few Alphas with headaches and fevers. Jiang passed them a table, mainly using acupuncture to alleviate their symptoms. “Dr. Jiang, you’re really amazing! You can even do acupuncture!”
Jiang Li replied, “I learned a bit from Professor Niu.” Originally, he wanted to see if he could alleviate stage fright by needling on the spot.
During his undergraduate years, when he wasn’t busy with coursework, he went to audit classes in the adjacent department. Professor Niu was a hundred years old and amiable, and seeing Jiang Li’s sincere learning and talent, he generously gave guidance. Jiang Li studied for four years and benefited greatly.
With a living advertisement, more Alphas wanted to try, and even top Alphas queued up. Cen Lang’s gaze was inscrutable. “There are too many Alphas; won’t you feel overwhelmed?”
Jiang Li shook his head and said, “No, I’m a Beta, not sensitive to pheromones.” He did smell a variety of Alpha pheromones, but everyone controlled it well, so it was fine.
Cen Lang remained calm as a gatekeeper. Not overwhelmed? It felt quite overwhelming.
“Cen Team!” A soldier came over, saluting. “The General wants you to go over.”
Cen Lang looked at Jiang Li, and Jiang Li nodded. “I can handle it alone.” Cen Lang then stationed the soldier at the door, saying, “Let one in at a time.” The soldier replied, “I guarantee the task will be completed.”
With Cen Lang, the atmosphere inside and outside the warship immediately became eight degrees more lively.
Originally tense, with twenty words describing headaches and fever, it expanded to two hundred words.
At this moment, the saying “too much talk leads to mistakes” was vividly demonstrated. An ordinary Alpha, too nervous, accidentally called out “General’s wife” in front of everyone.
Jiang Li raised his head, and a hint of confusion appeared on his cold face for the first time: “Did you mistake me for someone else? I have no relation to your general.” Didn’t the general just call Cen Lang away? They hadn’t even met.
“No, I didn’t make a mistake.” The Alpha, swept by Jiang Li’s gaze, immediately stammered, feeling embarrassed as if saying the wrong thing in front of a male god.
Indeed, Cen Lang hadn’t taken up an official position, but everyone assumed he was the highest-ranking officer in the space force, the real person in power. The current general was just handling things that Cen Lang didn’t want to deal with, and critical decisions still required Cen Lang’s confirmation.
For a nervous Alpha, how could he explain the complex relationships? He could only assertively say, “No mistake, aren’t you the object of the Cen Team?”
Jiang’s heart skipped a beat. “Where did you hear that?”
Alpha: “Ah, everyone is saying that.” Jiang Li looked at the soldier guarding the door, and the soldier saluted him. Silence at this moment was more effective than words.
Jiang Li: “…”
He fell into great shock and then realized the problem accurately: Cen Lang should know.
Why didn’t he clarify the rumors?!
Perhaps he found it troublesome or unnecessary, but Jiang Li had studied psychological suggestions, and the power of group suggestion was powerful. Jokes heard repeatedly could confuse the person involved.
Cen Lang was firm in character, unlikely to take it seriously, but listening to these Alphas joking every day would inevitably make him pay more attention to Jiang Li. That would be troublesome once he started showing signs of pregnancy.
Cen Lang didn’t clarify, so he had to clarify.
Jiang Li steadied his mind. “You misunderstood. Cen Team and I are just friends; he helped me out this time.” The other two wore expressions of expectation. Without an official announcement, they were just friends. No one believed it.
Jiang Li understood a bit why Cen Lang was too lazy to clarify. In that case, let’s try another approach.
After the more nervous Alpha left, a familiar Alpha entered, chatting casually, “Are you married?” “Yes, married, and we have a child! My wife is an art teacher; she’s great at painting.”
“Well, a happy marriage, stable pheromone levels.”
“When did you get married, Dr. Jiang? Join our Cen Team!” Jiang Li pursed his lips. The opportunity had come, and he said, “I have no plans to get married.” The Alpha showed a surprised expression. What about the Cen Team? Jiang Li explained, “You seem to misunderstand Cen Team and me; we’re just friends.”
The friendly Alpha said, “Even the strongest Alpha in the galaxy?”
“Yes.
Jiang Li paused, perhaps because he had been marked before, and he easily felt Cen Lang’s presence. It seemed like he had returned.
“I just want to be a researcher at the Pheromone Institute. I haven’t thought about these things. If I want to get married in a few decades, I’ll probably find someone similar.” The friendly Alpha, understanding, said, “Researcher positions have quotas, and you should find someone with a quota.”
Jiang Li frowned. What kind of understanding was this? But he thought of Cen Lang, who seemed to be an extra member of the space force, unrestrained and free. He vaguely replied, “Something like that.”
Outside the door, Cen Lang remained calm and composed, his gaze sweeping over these people—one with a troop quota, the top Alphas.
