Chapter 35 1/2
The bodyguard king led Jiang Li to the parking point of the aircraft. “Dr. Xiao Jiang, please board.”
Before stepping onto the steps, Jiang Li felt a bit uneasy and said, “Why don’t you go check on Team Cen? Being rejected in a confession can be disheartening. Lowering one’s guard to the outside world is risky; what if someone takes advantage and attacks?”
From Cen Lang’s perspective, it seemed like spies surrounded him.
Wang Wang blurted out, “No worries, Madam, your safety is above all.”
Jiang Li:
Wang Wang:
Wang Wang quickly added, “Whenever I see a suitable young man beside the sir, my mind gets confused. It’s not because the sir told me to call him that. Last time, I misspoke about the underground city caretaker, and the sir educated me thoroughly.”
Jiang Li didn’t dare talk much with Wang Wang. After boarding the aircraft, he said, “Thank you. Just stop at the school gate.”
Wang Wang: “The sir instructed me to take you to the rooftop of the dormitory.”
Cen Lang sat on a small hill to calm his mood and walked back towards the Cen family. Passing by a residential building, he surprisingly saw Lu Jing giving cigarettes to the security guards in the guardhouse.
Expensive cigarettes. Lu Jing lit one, held the remaining half pack casually on the guardhouse table, and chatted with the security about something.
Cen Lang listened in, and Lu Jing was inquiring about any households in the neighborhood that suddenly had an additional boy twenty years ago, either adopted or found.
The security shook his head and said, “I haven’t heard of it. These cigarettes are good.”
Lu Jing: “Thanks.”
“Liu Dui,” Cen Lang called.
Lu Jing extinguished the cigarette between his fingertips. He didn’t smoke, but sometimes, getting close and lighting a cigarette worked better than saying ten sentences.
Cen Lang: “Thank you.”
Lu Jing: “Idle hands.”
Initially, the Central District was the Jiang family’s sending place. Lu Jing mainly explored the outskirts; as the saying goes, it’s darkest under the lamp. What if the child is in the Central District?
He took a ten-day leave, finally returning to Earth, and decided to look around whenever he had time.
Cen Lang: “Don’t you want to see General Jiang?”
Lu Jing: “Not going. His father promised to help find the child, but the condition was to cut ties with me. He swore that if he ever saw me again, he’d never find the child.”
This explained why Lu Jing had permission to enter the sanatorium but didn’t go in. Cen Lang granted the permission, and Lu Jing said a few more words.
Cen Lang didn’t know these details and sneered, “He made an oath; the useless Jiang family still hasn’t found him. Old man Jiang probably forgot at the sight of General Lu.”
Lu Jing fell silent. Jiang Wanlan couldn’t get past the fact that she hadn’t found the child. If she doesn’t find the child, she won’t let it go.
“Continue, keep in touch,” Cen Lang continued towards home.
Back at home, Cen Wei glared. “You, in your sensitive period, dare to go see your beloved? Forget the pain once healed? Aren’t you afraid of losing control again? Harming others and yourself!”
Cen Lang pressed his forehead; he knew Wang Wang, that big-mouthed person, must have leaked his pursuit of Jiang Li to Lu Jing. “I know what I’m doing.”
He didn’t perceive any signs of impending storm syndrome rebound; he only felt a normal Alpha’s desire during the sensitive period.
I am still thinking of proving to Jiang Fu that even in his sensitive period, he could control himself and not harm him. What’s the point? He couldn’t get close to Jiang Li during his sensitive period.
“You know what you’re doing?” Cen Wei’s chest heaved with anger. “Then what’s in your hand? You’ve even vomited blood, and you act like nothing happened!”
The last time he saw his grandson vomit blood was when the storm syndrome completely lost control, and he was sent to the underground city.
Cen Lang looked at the armband and said, “This time is different.”
Cen Wei snorted, “Still fooling around.”
Cen Lang: “I don’t know how to explain to you. Consider it the price an Alpha pays for courtship.”
Cen Wei immediately became spirited. “Did it work?”
Cen Lang: “It failed.”
Cen Wei couldn’t believe it: “Did other Alphas drive you away?”
Cen Lang helplessly said, “It’s not a barbaric society.”
Cen Wei looked at the blood on his lips that wasn’t wiped clean and said, “Then just say you failed in confessing and got slapped. Young Betas nowadays are impressive; even my grandson is losing.”
Cen Lang licked the cut on his lip and casually said, “You’re right.” He couldn’t explain to a hundred-year-old man that he couldn’t control his heat.
After saying that, he was stunned. Jiang Li often said to him, “You’re right,” but it turned out to be ironic. All Alphas should study language arts.
Cen Wei watched his grandson go upstairs and silently opened the photo that Wang Wang took of the two standing together. They looked good everywhere. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out.
The family’s wealth, the strongest Alpha in the galaxy, the chief commander of the space fleet—none of it moved him. Cen Lang’s pheromones were too powerful; even after being cured, they were only harmless to himself, and others were still intolerant.
In Cen Wei’s private thoughts, he hoped Cen Lang would find a high compatibility Omega. Maybe, after marking, the Omega would be immune to her husband’s pheromones. Couples couldn’t stand together, and there would always be a grudge.
Cen Lang liked Jiang Li, and his grandchildren had their blessings. Cen Wei supported it. Jiang Li had no faults; he was very outstanding, but he didn’t like Cen Lang, so there was nothing to force.
“Should I arrange another blind date for you?” Cen Wei shouted upstairs. “Rest, old man.”
Cen Wei: “I can’t recognize a good person’s heart.”
In another ten years, you’ll still be single.
After Cen Lang showered, he received a message from the military department, hoping he could return to the team to balance the pheromones for the soldiers.
It hadn’t been half a year since the last balance. Why such urgency?
Cen Lang wiped his hair, thinking of replying with “I’m temporarily busy.” Suddenly, he remembered the image he had built in front of Jiang Chuan using the hero of the underground city. Forget it.
“Four days later.” After his sensitive period was over, he would meet Jiang Li again.
Returning to the space fleet was also an option.
Cen Lang didn’t ignore Jiang Li’s words. Jiang Li mentioned wanting to focus on research. If he kept disturbing him, the research-oriented Dr. Xiao Jiang would be unhappy. It would be better to wait for him to produce results, make him happy, and remind him that he contributed a bit to it. It would be easier to invite him out for a meal. Cen Lang changed into pajamas; after confirming his accurate response from the military, a longer notice came.
The reason for the early return was another task assigned to him.
The old demon king’s research base was confidential, but recently, the Amis Federation’s warships were attempting to approach for reconnaissance. The military department wanted to arrange for Cen Lang and Lu Jing to patrol and drive them away together.
Warships frequently passed by, and their routes could be captured by the Amis Federation, deducing the location of the research base. So, his mission was to guard near the research base, with the activity range at most extending to Deer Star.
Originally, the old demon king only applied for Lu Jing and another officer to coordinate patrols. After Jiang Li was honest with him, he promptly added Cen Lang to the list.
After arranging it, he sent a secret message to Jiang Li: “After showing your pregnancy, stay in Tianchen Laboratory and don’t come out. Cen Lang is not here, but he must have someone paying attention to your side. For clinical drug trials, Kang Jin has more experience in communicating with patients. Leave it to him to run; you receive feedback and learn something at the same time.”
The old demon king, Zhou Qingyuan, pondered for an hour, making sure the arrangement was proper. After receiving approval from the military department, he sighed in relief. He knew he couldn’t hide it for long, but he hoped Jiang Fu could delay it until he returned to Earth.
No one knew what a possessive top-tier Alpha could do. With just a flick of his finger, Jiang Fu could be plunged into darkness. Jiang Fu came out of the orphanage with no one to rely on. Zhou Qingyuan was Jiang Fu’s mentor and his only backing.
With him here, Cen Lang would at least be cautious. If Cen Lang left for a while, perhaps the affection would lessen, or maybe he would come to his senses by then. Zhou Qingyuan asked his assistant, “Can you collect some examples of stepfathers being happy?”
Assistant:??
“My father is.”
Zhou Qingyuan became interested. “Can you explain?”
