Chapter 49 1/2
“Jiang Wanlan’s mind was full of thoughts as he turned the electric thoughts. Just now, Lu Jing mentioned that the clothes he bought for the one-year-old child could still be used. It seems he knew about it early on? ‘Why didn’t you say anything earlier?’ Jiang Wanlan was angry. He had prepared himself mentally to meet the child, but he didn’t expect there would be more to it, and he had to rethink what he was going to say when they met.
Lu Jing: ‘I couldn’t be sure.’
Jiang Wanlan made a quick decision: ‘Let’s not talk about this for now.’ Not knowing how these two discussed the child and not sure about Jiang Li’s attitude towards the child’s father, it was better not to bring it up for now to avoid making Jiang Li feel uncomfortable by intervening too much.
Lu Jing: ‘Okay.’
Jiang Wanlan hurried forward; he couldn’t run as Jiang Li was pregnant. But he could walk fast, and he wanted to catch up with his child.
‘Baby!’
Jiang Li was originally standing behind Cen Lang, using his figure to shield his belly. However, when he heard Jiang Wanlan calling him “baby” as he rushed towards him, he took a deep breath, stepped forward stiffly, and let Jiang Wanlan scrutinize him: ‘Dad, I am Jiang Li.’
Jiang Li had seen Jiang Wanlan in financial news, and he even borrowed his surname from Jiang Wanlan.
Different from the news and what he felt at noon, Jiang Wanlan, standing in front of him, was not fierce at all. He looked like a lion who had lost its cub, full of aggressiveness, but when he met his child again, he retracted all his claws, afraid of scaring the child, and didn’t dare to get too close. His eyes were gentle and expectant.
Jiang Li’s eyes were a bit sour. He rarely shed tears and had never let anyone wipe his tears. But at this moment, he wanted to do something to stop Jiang Wanlan’s tears.
He thought of Cen Lang’s method, so he looked expectantly at Lu Jing, hoping he would comfort Jiang Wanlan.
Lu Jing had been looking at Jiang Li. When he caught his gaze, he had tissues in his hand and skillfully wiped away Jiang Wanlan’s tears. He wasn’t good with words. Faced with his recovered son, even the comforting words had to be taught by Jiang Wanlan, but the teaching was in vain.
‘Sorry, I didn’t recognize you on the desolate star,’ Lu Jing wiped his face, feeling frustrated for the second time. He wasn’t as flexible as Cen Lang. When Jiang Li said he had done two identifications, he believed it without a doubt. He had already felt that Jiang Wanlan resembled Jiang Li in some aspects.
Jiang Li: ‘Don’t say that.’
He had no experience with family life and didn’t know how to comfort the two fathers. He looked at Jiang Wanlan, but Jiang Wanlan had no intention of speaking for Lu Jing, just staring at Jiang Li as if he would disappear if he closed his eyes.
Jiang Li sought help from Cen Lang.
Cen Lang understood: ‘Ease up a bit. You don’t look much alike.’
Jiang Li:
Jiang Wanlan looked at Jiang Li with red eyes, observing his features and even wanting to count his fingers, as if when he was born, the nurse showed him the baby’s face, ten fingers, and toes, congratulating him on having a healthy baby.
When he thought the night might fall and his child might be disabled, abnormal, or even dead in the chaos of war, Jiang Li stood in front of him. He was well-grown, a good learner, not arrogant, polite, and well-mannered.
Jiang Wanlan had many questions to ask, but they all seemed less important than asking if he had eaten. In a hoarse voice, he said, ‘Hungry? I ordered food; sit down and eat. I don’t know your taste, so I ordered a variety that’s safe for pregnancy.’
Jiang Li nodded. ‘Thank you, Dad.’
He looked at Lu Jing. The last time they met, he was still Lu Jing, and today he is his father. Jiang Li respected this silent and tough general. Facing this silent and tough general, Jiang Li admired him greatly. It was habitual to call him ‘Dad,’ but calling Lu Jing was not so familiar.
Lu Jing always had no expression, but his tightened lips betrayed his nervousness and anticipation.
Cen Lang: ‘Dad.’
Lu Jing: ‘…’
Jiang Li: ‘How can you…’
Cen Lang: ‘You can’t say it; let me demonstrate.’
With Cen Lang to ease the mood at critical moments, Jiang Li’s nervousness disappeared before it intensified, and repeating it would be too affected.
Jiang Li earnestly shouted, ‘Dad.’
Lu Jing’s eyes were slightly moist. He grunted and quickly wiped the corner of his eye with his sleeve.
Cen Lang regretfully let go of his hand with a calm expression.
Jiang Wanlan didn’t understand Cen Lang’s bluff. Seeing Cen Lang carefully taking care of Jiang Li and showing love for the child in his belly, he couldn’t help but look at him with a bit more admiration.
In the conditions of difficult childbirth and having only one child in his lifetime, Cen Lang could still do this. It was indeed a deep love for Jiang Li, and this love was not superficial.
However, love needed time to prove itself. Jiang Wanlan didn’t know which scum impregnated Jiang Li!
Jiang Wanlan’s gaze fell on Jiang Li’s belly. Although he had been pregnant once, everyone’s physique was different. Some people loved to exercise and didn’t show much, so how many months pregnant was Jiang Li?
Cen Lang tactfully stepped back, walking side by side with Lu Jing, giving space to Jiang Wanlan.
Jiang Wanlan carefully chose his words: ‘How many months are you? Is the child active? ‘
Jiang Li felt a bit guilty: ‘A little over 26 weeks.’
Jiang Wanlan thought, Was it conceived in early December last year? In the middle of winter, how was the dating environment?
He knew many off-campus hotels with poor heating. Young couples had to wear thermal underwear and wrap themselves in quilts for one night. Jiang Li was still a student and didn’t take any precautions; he didn’t care about Jiang Li at all.
Jiang Wanlan: ‘Have you experienced morning sickness? ‘
Jiang Li: ‘It’s okay, just a few times, not severe.’
Jiang Wanlan: ‘When I was pregnant with you, I hardly had any reactions. I could eat everything, and you were very obedient, not causing any trouble.’
Jiang Li helped the child gain favor: ‘This child is also okay.’ Not mentioning that the child was picky and refused to drink nutritional supplements, giving him some face.
Jiang Wanlan: ‘Lu Jing said you and Cen Lang went to space once and even had to make an emergency landing on the desolate star? ‘
The last time Lu Jing returned to Earth, he was with Cen Lang and Jiang Li, meaning Jiang Li was three months pregnant when Cen Lang took him to space.
Talking about scientific research, Jiang Li’s speech became much smoother: ‘Because the adenoma drug requires a lot of top-grade Alpha pheromones, most of them are in the space force. Cen’s team applied for it and took me to collect them. I’m very grateful to him.’
‘The pheromones used for you are from Dad. Have you taken the medicine? ‘
Jiang Wanlan was suddenly checked: ‘Yes.’
To make it more convincing, Jiang Wanlan recited the medication formula.
