Chapter 65 2/2
Cen Lang leant over to show Jiang Li, “He’s asleep.”
“Thanks to Dr. Xiao Jiang for your efforts. I’ll handle the upbringing. You focus on your career,” Cen Lang shared his plan with Jiang Li.
Jiang Li was speechless. “Go out; Dad is getting impatient.” Originally, Dad was supposed to accompany the childbirth, but Cen Lang suddenly returned, forcefully taking the spot and keeping Jiang Wanlan outside.
“Alright.” Cen Lang, wearing the guilty hat, obediently followed his wife’s words, confidently carrying the child. Just two doors away awaited another anxious group of relatives.
Cen Lang entrusted the child to the most experienced Jiang Wanlan, saying, “Dad, please take care first.” “Jiang Li is also good; no need to worry.”
Jiang Wanlan securely held the baby as everyone gathered, examining the new life with affection.
Six months ago, Jiang Wanlan never thought he’d hold a baby again. This little one, wrapped in a swaddle, needed constant attention and care.
With so many dear elders present this time, the baby wouldn’t suffer. “Doesn’t he look like a treasure?” Jiang Wanlan lovingly asked Lu Jing.
Lu Jing maintained a suspicious silence, scrutinised for a moment, and said, “The ears are quite similar.” Jiang Wanlan glanced at him contemptuously and said, “Come on, standing in front of you, even if my son looks exactly like me, you wouldn’t recognise him.”
Though the overall appearance resembled Cen Lang’s biological son, the details carried Jiang Li’s touch.
Lu Jing accepted it humbly and said, “Hmm.”
After looking at the grandson, Cen Wei instructed Cen Lang to take good care of Jiang Li. Apologetically, he told Jiang Wanlan and Lu Jing, “I need to check the hibernation chamber Cen Lang brought back.”
Understanding, Jiang Wanlan said, “Go ahead; if there’s anything we can help with, let us know.”
Cen Wei replied, “I’ll come by tomorrow.”
After handing over the child, Cen Lang returned to Jiang Li’s side. With the doctor’s permission, he gently wiped her body.
Dr. Xiao Jiang was neat; earlier, he only wiped sweat and changed clothes roughly. She must still be uncomfortable.
Jiang Li asked, “When can I leave the hospital?”
The doctor replied, “Tomorrow morning.”
With that, the doctor left.
Cen Lang carefully wiped each of Jiang Li’s fingers and asked, “How long have you been in the hospital? You seem eager to go home.”
Jiang Li: “One week.”
Cen Lang remembered there might be false labour signs before the due date: “Restless little one.” “What do you want to eat? How about noodle soup?” After wiping her body, Cen Lang helped Jiang Li up. Jiang Li nodded.
Cen Lang lifted a bowl of noodle soup, and this time, not satisfying Jiang Li’s cleanliness, he took a sip himself to check the temperature.
“Just right.” Cen Lang scooped up a spoonful of fragrant and light noodle soup.
In Jiang Li’s memory, she had never been fed by anyone. Uncomfortably, she turned her head away. “I’ll do it myself,” Cen Lang replied. “I don’t want you to move a finger, okay?” Jiang Li fell silent for a moment and said, “Don’t just feed me; you eat too.”
Cen Lang picked up a pumpkin dumpling and fed Jiang Li while chewing himself, this time without any rejection. Jiang Li opened her mouth and awkwardly held onto the soup spoon.
Approaching two in the morning, Cen Lang had Jiang Li lie down to rest. He moved a single bed to accompany her, laying down in a practiced manner. When Jiang Li fell asleep, Cen Lang, devoid of fatigue, got up and sat by Jiang Li’s bedside, holding his hand.
In the last few days, he hasn’t exchanged shifts much with Chen Ping. Unable to close his eyes at the thought of Jiang Li, he could finally watch her closely. The tired eyes seemed to find relief just by staying open.
Cen Lang gazed attentively until dawn, then lay on the single bed for a while.
At six in the morning, Jiang Li woke up. Jiang Wanlan also brought the child over, seeming to have improved a bit overnight.
Jiang Li poked the baby’s cheek and said, “Dad, I want to go home.”
Jiang Wanlan said, “Your dad went to prepare the spacecraft, and I’ve packed your things.”
Cen Lang crouched in front of Jiang Li and said, “I’ll carry you back.”
Jiang Li, supporting herself on the bed, circled around him and said lightly, “I’ll use a wheelchair.”
Cen Lang:
Oh no, it seems Dr. Xiao Jiang is starting to keep tabs. Those cosy treatments were just a temporary benefit of their reunion. Dr. Xiao Jiang always has a price behind those inviting meals.
Pushing the wheelchair towards the spacecraft, when they reached the entrance of the Lu family’s home, Jiang Li stopped the alpha, who wasn’t supposed to be there. “According to your coordinates, aren’t you coming back in a month?” “Then come back in a month.”
Jiang Li had Dad close the door.
In an instant, wife and child disappeared. Cen Lang: “…”
Cen Lang stood at the door, glanced around, and noticed a small house in the yard. It looked like a doghouse.
There’s no dog, but there’s a doghouse. A four-square-metre extra-large luxurious space, divided into inner and outer rooms.
It seems to be prepared for him.
Very conscientiously, Cen Lang put his bedding in the doghouse. As long as he could be with his wife, as long as there was a place for him.
This was more than just a place; the space was incredibly spacious, especially with this arched door that almost occupied the entire wall without a door leaf. Cen Lang wanted to give it a good review; lying down, he could easily see Jiang Li’s window on the second floor.
Jiang Li closed the door but left him a window. Cen Lang was sure this doghouse was tailor-made for him; even the two metres in width were just right, but if his legs were ten centimetres shorter, he wouldn’t be able to stretch them out.
With his agility, as long as he could settle down, he could climb up to comfort the child within thirty seconds of hearing its cry.
This child seemed not to cry much; besides, right after birth, Cen Lang hadn’t heard him cry.
After a few days without sleep, he was indeed very tired. Lying in the doghouse with nothing, using his luggage as a pillow, he fell directly asleep.
Jiang Li was completely unaware, angry as she might be. He didn’t want Cen Lang to take care of the child day and night. This person, who had lost so much weight and had faint blue eyes, should go back and rest for a month before coming.
