She gently pushed open the door.
A man in his early fifties, who had gray hair on his temples and a resolute face, wore a formal brown suit, sat quietly behind his desk. His fingers were lightly tapping on the dark desktop, his eyes were sharp rather than muddy.
“What’s the matter?” His inquiring tone was rather like an order.
Su Ling withstood the pressure and said: “I have important information to pass on. It comes from the ‘chess player’ in the coffee shop and will be delivered directly to you according to your order.”
“Uh-huh.”
The Director nodded his head without any unnecessary words.
Su Ling stepped forward and put the black file case on the desk and then retreated without saying a word.
Just this couple of action made her little tense.
In fact, the director was just sitting calmly behind the desk and didn’t even scrutinize Su Ling or enquiring any details. But Su Ling was so overwhelmed with this pressure it was like standing in front of a giant dragon, no, this influence was definitely stronger than a giant dragon.
It must be the influence of extraordinary power, yeah absolutely. She silently comforted her dangling heart, not believing the possibility that she was timid just now.
The Director silently opened the black file, flipped through a letter, and finally looked at the few creased paper, through the process never once his eyes stayed long on any lines, it was just like reading some random feeds, and his expression also remains unchanged.
Closing the file he raised his head and asked calmly. “What does he want?”
Su Ling was too occupied of comforting her so the sudden question slightly startled her and immediately replied, “Mr. Shen said that this is a cooperation, the Anti-Magic Bureau owes him a favor to be repaid later.”
“Favor…”
The Director seemed to be savoring this word, and after a long time, said, “The matter between you and the ‘Chess Player’, don’t tell anyone, apart from me, understand?”
“Yes.” Su Ling replied instinctively in response.
She didn’t hesitate in slightest, because it was something, which was mentioned from the very beginning.
At the time the bureau held the meeting and decided to send someone to in contact with the ‘Chess Player’, but apart from director no one knew – she was the person in charge of communicating with chess players.
The senior investigators only knew someone was in charge of the “Chess Player”, but they didn’t know the specific person.
Su Ling had a strange thought that if one day she and the director suddenly disappeared, Mr. Shen’s connections with the Anti-Magic Bureau would also become scarce, right?
The director stood up from his chair, he was over 1.8 tall with a stout figure, he looked tough at the same time handsome.
“Follow me.”
Saying that, he left the office, and Su Ling followed behind him.
The two made their way to the building’s elevator and took the elevator to the second basement floor.
Things on the first to fourth underground were all secret about the inner world, and the deeper you go, the scarier the things you could come into contact with.
The second underground floor was no longer accessible to ordinary (D, C) investigators. Only senior investigators could enter without applying permission.
As for the fourth underground floor, it would only be accessible to the Director and the two Deputy Directors.
There were many rooms on the second underground floor, which were cells, storage rooms, and laboratories.
As Su Ling walked along, she saw through the window that a researcher in one of the rooms was circling around in front of a well and mumbling something.
He bled a live chicken and threw it into the well. Then he immediately lay down and heard a shrill scream coming from the well.
Su Ling was momentarily speechless. She always felt that anyone who could do research here was half crazy.
Finally, they came in front of a room.
It was a rectangular black room, ten meters long, five meters wide, three meters high, completely opaque, in the room there was a bed, a telephone booth-like bathroom and a low table.
The director said calmly: “She is resting here again, but we need her help.”
Su Ling knew that this was the “prophet’s” room, and she would often run here to rest like “autistic”.
“But the prophecy will be invalidated, right? The Pseudo-Gods have interfered with the prophecy.”
The director took out a pale blue ring from his shirt pocket. There was a hidden needle on the ring. Once it was worn on the finger, the needle would pop out and pierce the finger to absorb the lifespan of the wearer.
“Let her wear this.”
“The power of this mysterious relic can briefly raise the prophecy ability by one level.”
At a glance she recognized that this was a disaster-level relic, and merely wearing it for a while would also deplete the user’s lifespan.
The director continued: “We must seize the target as soon as possible, otherwise, it is likely to cause huge casualties to the people and will escalate to the point of irreversible.”
“Well.”
Su Ling nodded slightly and took a deep breath.
She knew with this limited time and situation there was no better way other than this. In addition, the “prophet” would not object, but instead see it as a good thing that would enhance her sense of worth.
Taking the ring, Su Ling pushed the door open and entered the room, and immediately heard a female voice.
“Sorry.”
“Um?”
Su Ling looked at the girl sitting on the bed.
Dressed in a plain white dress, the girl’s body was unusually thin, her dark hair was a little messy it spread all over her shoulder and reached below her hip. There was tears in the corner of her eyes and she dropped her head dejectedly.
The most striking thing about her were her limbs – her legs and arms were replaced by exquisite prosthetics, made of metal, and only her head and torso were normal flesh and blood.
The “Prophet” looked up apologetically at Su Ling, and it was not the first time they had met.
Su Ling was slightly startled.
“Why do you have to say sorry to me?”
The Prophet just shook her head, forced a smile, and said, “Give me the ring.”
Su Ling was a little confused, but still nodded, and reached out the ring.
“Um.”
The “Prophet” smiled and comforted: “Don’t worry about me, the director will find a way to help me restore my lifespan.”
Ten minutes later, Su Ling stood at the side, her hands were clenched into tight fits, looking at the prophet sweating profusely on the bed, she immediately stepped forward and removed the unstained ring.
“It’s really been hard. Thank you.” She said seriously.
They already know the location of the Pseudo god at this moment.
“Execute the capture immediately.”
——
Su Ling once again came to the coffee shop.
She mused for a moment and walked in as calmly as possible.
Shen Yi saw her as soon as she pushed open the door, with a smile he pointed out a corner spot.
“Have a seat.”
Su Ling said after sitting down. “Just lemonade.”
The corners of Shen Yi’s mouth twitched slightly, but he nodded. “Good.”
As soon as he came with lemonade Su Ling continued: “The arrest operation will be carried out tonight. If there is an accident then, we hope you can provide support.”
Shen Yi sat on the opposite side and asked rhetorically, “Is that so? You guys already owe me a favor, and not only are you not thinking of repaying it, but instead you want me to continue to help?”
“Uh, yeah…”
If it were anyone else they would feel embarrassed, but Su Ling didn’t have any and even took a sip of lemonade. Anyway, the one who owed favors was not her but the Anti-Magic Bureau, so what is there for her to embarrassed.
“Okay, I’ll help if necessary.”
Shen Yi nodded. In fact, even if they didn’t ask, he would still find a way to catch the Pseudo-Gods. Of course, it would be a good thing to make the other party feel that he owed more favors.
Shen Yi glanced at Tina who was working on the counter. One of the three “necessary causes” was currently staying in his cafe.
He continued to look at Su Ling: “I wish you success in arresting him.”
Although he said this, he felt that it would be difficult to succeed. The pseudo-god had many plans and he must have had backup plans long ago. It would not be so easy to catch him.
After Su Ling left, he called Tina behind the bar.
“Don’t go home tonight, stay in the coffee shop.” His tone was so serious, making it impossible to resist.
Tina was stunned for a moment, then her face started to turn red, while her mind started to made up things.
