Chapter 162 Dual Blades, Icy Brilliance in the Martial World (31)
After consuming some dry rations, Bai Tang stretched lazily, ready to get down to business. Many of the arrows she had embedded in the rock face were shattered by falling rocks, but some remained intact. Now armed with these resources, Bai Tang began systematically inspecting and searching for the Lifeless Flower.
The Lifeless Flower had black petals, and in this perpetually dim, misty, and pitch-black environment, it was far from aesthetically pleasing. Yaoyao also did her best to search, relying on the scenes Bai Tang relayed to her. Often, she would not get a good look before Bai Tang moved on to the next location.
A slender figure danced gracefully amidst the towering cliffs and steep slopes. After seven or eight days of searching, Yaoyao had become accustomed to the misty, dark surroundings. She even found herself wanting to glance down at the pitch-black, gloomy green thicket at the bottom of the cliff.
Undeniably, it was exhilarating. Once accustomed, Yaoyao’s courage had grown considerably during this unique journey.
The moment they discovered the Lifeless Flower was on the tenth day. Bai Tang estimated it to be nearing noon.
Despite the low visibility, Bai Tang swiftly locked onto a dark mass. Yaoyao exclaimed, “What is that? It doesn’t look like a rock.”
Bai Tang smirked, “A snake. Unexpectedly, in a world without spiritual energy, there are still beasts guarding the Lifeless Flower.”
This snake was more than ten meters long with a body almost a meter in diameter. Its head was broad, flaring out on both sides in a fan shape. Covered in scales, it seemed impervious to blades, spears, water, and fire. It coiled tightly on the rock face, vigilant of its surroundings.
Bai Tang looked at it, this snake still had some charm. However… How come this Lifeless Flower is a twin?
Fuck! She really needed to give one to Qi Jiayan.
Yaoyao inhaled sharply, “Young Lady Bai, maybe we should give up. This snake is just too massive. Your safety is the top priority.”
Bai Tang chuckled, “Too late, it has already spotted us.”
The giant snake, with its forked tongue flickering, raised its head towards Bai Tang. Bai Tang swiftly plucked an arrow and hurled it, simultaneously slashing her blade against the rock face, using the force to propel herself.
Yaoyao’s heart was pounding, wondering why Bai Tang seemed so exhilarated in the face of this peril. The giant snake raised its head higher, continuously emitting snake signals, and the fan-shaped structures on its sides swayed, while its tail began to sway—a prelude to a snake’s impending attack.
Contemplating whether to use internal energy to break through the snake’s armor, Bai Tang grossly underestimated the snake’s keen perception of danger. This seemingly fragile human woman made the giant snake feel significantly threatened. As the guardian beast of the Lifeless Flower, it had already developed some degree of intelligence.
The standoff between the woman and the snake lasted for about an hour, leaving Yaoyao breathless, afraid that she might miss something in the blink of an eye. Eventually, the giant snake lowered its head, and its snake tongue rolled up two Lifeless Flowers. It crawled over and presented them to Bai Tang.
Bai Tang took out a prepared jade box and accepted the flowers, patting the snake’s head. “You guarded the Lifeless Flowers for me. What do you want in return?”
The giant snake, with its massive eyes, looked toward the sky. Any intelligent creature would know what it was afraid of.
Bai Tang instantly understood. “You want to transcend the tribulation and live longer?”
The giant snake nodded.
“Alright.” Bai Tang readily agreed. For her, fulfilling this request from a snake born and bred on this cliff was not a difficult task.
“When the items are ready, I’ll bring them to you.”
Bai Tang drew her blade, preparing to depart, but the giant snake coiled upwards. Yaoyao took another deep breath, nearly scared out of her wits.
Bai Tang smiled, “Do you want to come with me?”
Once again, the giant snake nodded.
Bai Tang continued, “You can come with me. Since you have intelligence, you should know that the heavens favors humans. As part of the food chain, you can consume wild things, but you must not harm people indiscriminately.”
