Chapter 368: The Incompetent Teammate vs. the God Player
Warning: Suicide
Wang Cuihua wiped her tears and then noticed Ye Wenxin staring at her. A bit annoyed, she exclaimed, “What are you looking at!? Never seen someone get sand in their eyes before?”
Wang Cuihua had a strong personality. Unfortunately, however, having such a tacky and unremarkable name, she definitely wasn’t destined to be a female lead.
Ye Wenxin shook her head. “I wasn’t looking at you; I was looking at your bells.”
Wang Cuihua raised her wrist, and the bell tied there made no sound. The bells, which rang continuously in a normal state, hadn’t made a peep since a while ago, making Ye Wenxin very curious about its function.
After hearing Ye Wenxin’s words, Wang Cuihua explained, “These are Harmony Bells.”
Ye Wenxin was utterly confused. Now that she had truly set foot in the Martial World, she realized how ignorant she had been. Every place she visited had completely different things to learn. When she heard Wang Cuihua mention the Harmony Bells just now, Ye Wenxin had no idea what it meant.
“My grandfather said, the bells are called Harmony Bells. They’ve been hanging on me since I was little, but I don’t know what it’s for. But it was also because of these bells that I met my grandfather.” When mentioning Priest Wang, Wang Cuihua’s expression softened considerably. Ye Wenxin had a feeling that this story was likely more complicated than it seemed.
Wang Cuihua had been with Priest Wang since she was an infant, and shouldn’t remember any details. Ye Wenxin didn’t press further, but felt that the Harmony Bells might have something to do with Long Qingyue.
The conversation ended abruptly at this point. Ye Wenxin began playing with Furball, kicking it around. It didn’t feel any pain, and even seemed happy when kicked. The two were having a great time.
As for the Yin-Yang ghosts, they had exhausted themselves earlier and were now hiding inside the umbrella sword, slowly absorbing the Yin energy from Ye Wenxin’s body to recuperate, preparing for the next enemy encounter.
Wang Cuihua, feeling a bit bored from waiting, asked, “Why is it so quiet inside?”
Ye Wenxin had already learned from the Yin-Yang ghosts that there were no living people inside the room. She replied, “Go knock on the door and find out.”
Wang Cuihua nodded and eagerly moved forward to knock on the door, but felt something was off. She turned back and asked, “Why don’t you knock on the door?”
Ye Wenxin rolled her eyes. “I’m your Grandmaster.”
Wang Cuihua ‘hmphed’ in dissatisfaction. “You might be grandfather’s Grandmaster, but I don’t trust you. If people rely on others to save them, then what’s the point of my own efforts?”
Wang Cuihua’s perspective was quite refreshing. Ye Wenxin found it somewhat amusing and replied with a laugh, “Of course, it’s to ensure you don’t become a burden to others.”
Wang Cuihua wanted to retort, but Ye Wenxin was already frowning, and she made a shushing gesture. A sound came from the room, indicating that the little boy had finally transformed into a jiangshi. Wang Cuihua’s attention shifted, and she exchanged glances with the nearby Xiao Li before kicking the door open.
Upon entering, they saw that the boy had already turned and was biting his parents’ throats. The couple, completely drained of blood, hadn’t struggled. The scene was eerily quiet.
“Why did it turn out like this?” Wang Cuihua was stunned, unable to understand why the couple would say goodbye by committing suicide.
Ye Wenxin, who had foreseen this outcome, calmly said, “A family should always be together.” Wang Cuihua’s tears fell again, but even as she cried, she still glared fiercely at Ye Wenxin.
“You knew they would do this all along, didn’t you? Why didn’t you stop them!?”
“It wouldn’t have made any difference. This was their choice, their way of finding redemption.”
Wang Cuihua took a deep breath, clenching her fists tightly to restrain her grief. “So foolish! Uncle, auntie, why did you have to put yourselves through this?”
Ye Wenxin said no more; she just watched as the jiangshi boy seemed to notice the presence of the living and charged towards them.
The umbrella sword instinctively unsheathed itself, ready to kill him, but Ye Wenxin quickly gestured for it to stop. She stepped forward, subdued the boy, and then looked at Wang Cuihua.
“Cuihua, what do you plan to do now?” Wang Cuihua’s expression was gloomy, her lips trembling. Facing this situation, she seemed to be at a loss for what to do.
Ye Wenxin’s approach was more straightforward and forceful; she was pushing Wang Cuihua to grow up. If Wang Cuihua kept letting her emotions get the better of her, Priest Wang would eventually end up alone. Considering the connection between Priest Wang and Celestial Master Zhong, Ye Wenxin knew she had to put in some effort.
Wang Cuihua stared at the boy for a few seconds in silence, then asked, “Can we lock them in the room?”
Wang Cuihua’s method was too gentle. After hearing her answer, Ye Wenxin didn’t hesitate and killed the boy. Wang Cuihua, furious, rushed at Ye Wenxin, ready to strike her.
Sensing Wang Cuihua’s killing intent, the umbrella sword unsheathed itself and pushed Wang Cuihua back without taking her life.
“Are you crazy! I told you my idea! Why did you still kill the boy!?”
Ye Wenxin coldly said, “They are no longer humans; they are jiangshi that bring harm to all living beings. There can be no mercy for them.”
Wang Cuihua gritted her teeth in anger. The slight goodwill she had started to feel for Ye Wenxin vanished instantly, replaced by hatred. Ye Wenxin, recalling countless stories of Celestial Master Zhong encountering similar situations, wanted to share one to warn Wang Cuihua against acting on impulse. However, seeing Wang Cuihua still fuming, she decided against it. Instead, she turned and tied the dead boy and his parents to chairs with rope.
After she had the three corpses sitting around the table, Ye Wenxin called Xiao Li over. Together, they chanted the Sutra of Rebirth. Wang Cuihua, standing motionless, seemed bewildered by what was happening. Her youth, coupled with Priest Wang’s protective nature, had given her a very narrow perspective. Yet, it enabled her to maintain her purity and hold compassion for others.
But in this world, there was no distinction between male and female, only survival of the fittest…
As the sky brightened, the city still carried a chilling atmosphere. Ye Wenxin could sense a hint of danger, and even found the feeling somewhat familiar. After a moment’s thought, she decided to call Xiao Li and Wang Cuihua to evacuate early.
Wang Cuihua was still enraged and stubbornly refused to leave. This was also what minor characters loved to do in such life-and-death situations. Xiao Li, who admired Wang Cuihua, naturally didn’t dare to force her. He looked helplessly at Ye Wenxin, as if seeking guidance on what to do next.
Ye Wenxin also felt a headache coming on. She approached Wang Cuihua, intending to knock her out and carry her away, but suddenly sensed a disturbance from the Harmony Bells.
It seemed Wang Cuihua had also noticed Ye Wenxin’s intentions and began preparing to escape.
