Chapter 426: Frenemies
In an instant, the two ghosts began to automatically attack the surrounding Corpse Generals, completely depriving Ye Wenxin of a chance to make an entrance. When Long Qingyue shifted slightly in her arms, Ye Wenxin assumed she might be uncomfortable being held, and wanted to find a place to set her down, only to feel Long Qingyue’s resistance.
“It’s alright, this is quite good,” Long Qingyue responded. However, her thoughts were about more than just the physical contact.
Long Qingyue was more skilled with talismans, but they required time to activate. The Corpse Generals’ purely physical attacks put a mage like Long Qingyue at a disadvantage. While Ye Wenxin was also a high-output type, she had changed over the years, and her role had become more like that of a battlemage. With the umbrella sword’s help, she was well-equipped for both offense and defense, making Long Qingyue somewhat envious of such a divine artifact.
“Alright, I’ll continue holding you then.” Ye Wenxin nodded in agreement, instinctively adjusting her hold. Knowing that Long Qingyue had no sensation in her lower half, she wasn’t overly gentle, but made sure to hold her in a way that allowed for ease in carrying.
For Long Qingyue, who was ten times more sensitive, this sensation was a painful torment. She almost let out an involuntary sound but managed to hold it in. With lips pressed tightly together, she looked at Ye Wenxin.
“What’s wrong?” asked a puzzled Ye Wenxin.
Long Qingyue still couldn’t bring herself to say what was on her mind and shook her head. She then saw Ghost Mother and Sword Ghost returning from their task. Slain Corpse Generals littered the area around them, and a satisfied Ghost Mother boasted her prowess to Ye Wenxin.
“Master, did you see? I killed fifty-three of them. Pretty impressive, right?”
Seeing Ghost Mother’s effort and results, Ye Wenxin nodded in approval. “Well done. You should take a rest now.” Although the Yin-Yang ghosts were quite useful, they had limited stamina. Ye Wenxin watched with concern as Sword Ghost contentedly returned to the umbrella sword, while Ghost Mother remained, staring at Ye Wenxin and then at Long Qingyue with obvious displeasure.
Unlike humans, who often hid their emotions, Ghost Mother’s feelings were clear-cut, and whenever she felt something, it showed on her face. Ye Wenxin just assumed Ghost Mother was jealous, and smiled as she explained, “Yue’er is just a good friend of mine.”
This extra explanation only made Ghost Mother more disgruntled. “Hmph. But Master, look at this sick woman. She lies and never tells the truth. How can anyone know if she truly considers you a friend?”
Ye Wenxin hinted at Ghost Mother, “You ought to consider your own behavior before criticizing others.”
Ghost Mother was even more dissatisfied, but couldn’t refute this truth. She also didn’t want Ye Wenxin to get closer to Long Qingyue, so she continued to protest, “Master, I want to eat.”
“Later, later.”
Ye Wenxin frowned slightly, already aware of Ghost Mother’s true feelings. Last time, it was a complete accident that something happened between her and Ghost Mother in front of Long Qingyue. But this time was different; Long Qingyue was still in her arms, and the visual sensation was beyond words.
“But, since I killed so many Corpse Generals just now, I won’t have the strength to fight later. If I don’t have the strength, I can’t help Master, and if I can’t help Master, then Master will always look for the Yin-Yang Pearls…”
Before Ghost Mother could finish, the alarmed Ye Wenxin hurriedly said, “Alright, I’ll get you something to eat… but not through…”
She intended to say not through kissing, but Ghost Mother’s lips were already pressed against hers. Ghost Mother’s small tongue moved skillfully in Ye Wenxin’s mouth, cold and pleasant. However, Ye Wenxin could tell that Ghost Mother wasn’t consuming her Yin energy, but was merely giving a show to assert her dominance.
Ye Wenxin, with both hands still holding Long Qingyue, was completely unable to resist. Long Qingyue also seemed somewhat confused, and a fleeting red glow passed through her eyes.
Ghost Mother’s dark green eyes showed no change at all. As her hands cradled Ye Wenxin’s head, her small tongue continued to swirl and move with increasing seductive intent. Given Ye Wenxin’s frequent wrestling with Ghost Mother, her movements had become incredibly skilled.
Ye Wenxin almost lost control after abstaining for half a month. Fortunately, a twinge of pain quickly reminded her to step back. Flower Burial appeared, pushing Ghost Mother away from her.
Ghost Mother, still smirking with flirty eyes, licked her slightly unsatisfied lips and said, “Alright, I’m a bit full now. The rest can wait until later.” Her tone was clearly provocative, as if she wanted to label Ye Wenxin with a sign.
It was hard to tell if it was genuine possessiveness or just Ghost Mother’s instinctual longing for destruction. Ye Wenxin, left speechless, watched as Ghost Mother shot a challenging glance at Long Qingyue before slowly retreating into the umbrella sword.
The term dead silence wouldn’t be an exaggeration for the now quiet scene, and Ye Wenxin didn’t dare to look at Long Qingyue. “The path is cleared. Let’s move forward.”
All of a sudden, Long Qingyue’s voice turned cold. “No need. I’ll walk on my own.”
Long Qingyue took out her wheelchair from her storage ring and asked Ye Wenxin to set her down.
What was once a warm sisterly bond had turned into a battlefield. Ye Wenxin forced a bitter smile, but she offered no further explanation. She helped Long Qingyue into the wheelchair, and the two of them continued to search for Jiangshi King amidst the increasingly dense crowd of jiangshi.
The Yin-Yang ghosts continued their relentless slaughter, but Ghost Mother seemed to find pleasure in provoking Ye Wenxin by shooting suggestive glances at her. Meanwhile, Sword Ghost maintained a low profile, looking somewhat awkward. Despite being one entity, the difference in their personalities after splitting made things quite troublesome for Ye Wenxin.
“Gu Qingcheng, you really dare to show up.” After nearly a thousand jiangshi were killed, the Jiangshi King appeared in a black robe, like a ghostly specter that exuded a terrifying aura.
Unfortunately, the Jiangshi King lacked any luck aura, so she was clearly just a minor side character. The Jiangshi King didn’t seem to possess any special abilities. Despite this, Ye Wenxin did not dare to lower her guard.
Long Qingyue conjured talismans in her hand and arranged them in a hexagram pattern. Ye Wenxin conjured a red flower, and with a flick, it transformed into a blood-red whip.
Without further ado, they jumped straight into battle. Ye Wenxin herself didn’t need these weapons for protection, but the Jiangshi King’s elusive movements and expertise in producing clones made her take some precautions.
“As long as I kill you, darling Mo will be mine forever!” The Jiangshi King was stirred into a frenzy, her killing intent unrestrained. With a wave of her hand, thousands of Corpse Generals reappeared.
