Chapter 425: Guess If I Want to Guess or Not
Long Qingyue smiled softly, as if recalling many moments from the past. Her gaze wandered into the distance, and she said lightly, “You really haven’t changed at all.”
Ye Wenxin didn’t continue the conversation. To say that there was no change would be impossible. If they spoke further, the topic would return to old subjects, making things even more awkward between them. Rather than let that happen, Ye Wenxin chose to remain silent.
Ye Wenxin continued to fly through the air, stepping on bright red petals that were extraordinarily vibrant. From a distance, it looked as if she were strolling through a sea of flowers, with an exotic fragrance filling the air wherever she went. The Corpse Generals, as if drawn, all raised their heads to watch this strange phenomenon.
The Jiangshi King was the only one who seemed unaffected by the grand scene.
Ye Wenxin thought she hadn’t made a big enough display, but suddenly, a voice echoed in her mind.
“Gu Qingcheng, you actually dared to come!” The voice was not only transmitted into Ye Wenxin’s mind, but also echoed through every street and alley of Mo Clan Village, as if this were the Jiangshi King’s ability.
The Jiangshi King’s announcement annoyed Ye Wenxin. She had merely intended to make a low-key entrance, take care of the Jiangshi King, repay the favor to Celestial Master Zhong, and completely resolve this issue. But now, word of this would be spread far and wide.
By then, everyone would know that Demon Lord Gu Qingcheng had reappeared, causing all sorts of commotion.
“What, now you’re regretting it?” Long Qingyue observed the changes in Ye Wenxin’s expression. Even though it was subtle, she could still see the shift in Ye Wenxin’s mood.
Ye Wenxin indeed felt a bit of regret in her heart. She thought about the bold words she had just uttered, and about Long Qingyue’s abilities, then continued, “I trust that you will surely have a solution to this, Yue’er.”
She deliberately snuggled closer, intending to play dumb to get through the current crisis. Long Qingyue wasn’t buying it at all. She lightly pushed Ye Wenxin’s head away with her hand and said with dissatisfaction, “Don’t use the same tricks on me that you use on Liu Churan.”
There was unmistakable disdain in her words, but Ye Wenxin had never done anything like this to Liu Churan. She chuckled bitterly, “How could I dare do such a thing to Ran’er? I’d be lucky if she didn’t eat me alive.”
Liu Churan’s yandere tendencies had become increasingly evident, from her recent bouts of madness to the little things in everyday life. In flashes of memory, Ye Wenxin would occasionally see Liu Churan holding her clothes. She had initially thought Liu Churan was just being kind by helping with her laundry, but thinking back now, many of those moments were incredibly terrifying.
Long Qingyue, however, laughed softly and said, “I thought you would never realize how twisted that girl was.”
Her tone carried an unexpected hint of gratification, making Ye Wenxin feel even more embarrassed. She couldn’t help but think that she must have been too naive in the beginning, to be completely unaware of Liu Churan’s twisted and pathological tendencies.
However, the fact that her best friend Long Qingyue hadn’t warned her at all left Ye Wenxin somewhat resentful.
Noticing there was still some distance to the Jiangshi King’s stronghold, Ye Wenxin couldn’t resist voicing her doubts again. “If that’s the case, why didn’t you tell me?”
Long Qingyue responded calmly, “I hinted to you many times to encourage Liu Churan to become independent sooner. But you always thought she was too young to manage the Wind and Moon Palace, so you kept her by your side. As a result, you ended up nurturing a girl with a mother complex.”
Even though this statement should have carried some negative connotation, Long Qingyue seemed genuinely pleased as she spoke. Ye Wenxin suspected that, during Liu Churan’s childhood development, she might have also gone through Long Qingyue’s script, which influenced her into becoming the way she was now.
The methods she used were completely different from when Ye Wenxin had taken the little girl in out of kindness. Liu Churan had become a demoness, no less formidable than Demon Lord Gu Qingcheng. The more Ye Wenxin thought about it, the more complicated her feelings became as she looked at Long Qingyue, who raised an eyebrow as if she had guessed what Ye Wenxin was thinking.
“This isn’t my fault. She came to me, talking about her troubles regarding her godmother, so I just guided her,” Long Qingyue explained, attempting to prove her innocence, but Ye Wenxin didn’t believe for a moment that she would be so kind-hearted.
If Long Qingyue had truly wanted to guide her, she could have just used her mind-reading to alter Liu Churan’s mentality, rather than letting her love become twisted.
“Forget it; Ran’er has turned out this way regardless. But be honest with me, Yue’er—aside from the Jiangshi King, how many other foreshadowed events have you set up?” Ye Wenxin asked, recalling that even though they had met occasionally after their separation, the times they had been apart were much longer—long enough for Long Qingyue to create more stories.
There was a Mo Niancheng, and who knows, next there might be a Mei Shacheng (surname Mei, Sha – Kill, Qingcheng’s cheng). In any case, Long Qingyue could change this world and manipulate anyone’s thoughts if she so desired.
If Ye Wenxin’s special ability could forcibly make people develop affection, then Long Qingyue’s power was like brainwashing, altering people’s thoughts and memories. Over time, Long Qingyue’s mind-reading ability had evolved into all sorts of possibilities.
“You guess.”
“Guess if I want to guess or not.”
Ye Wenxin felt resigned, as if she could already foresee the richly colorful days ahead. Long Qingyue just smiled without offering further explanation.
She had set up too many scenarios—so many that writing all of it down would be impossible. Some were unintentional, while others were deliberately planned. If Liu Churan used force to drive away those who were romantically interested in Ye Wenxin, Long Qingyue’s methods were even more effortless. If she wanted, she could erase anyone’s affection for Ye Wenxin.
Unfortunately, this was limited to humans.
Long Qingyue’s gaze shifted upward, where the Yin-Yang ghosts still hovered around Ye Wenxin. It seemed they had also noticed Long Qingyue’s presence. Ghost Mother still wore a perpetually displeased expression, while Sword Ghost restrained herself a bit but instinctively felt fear toward Long Qingyue.
Even though Long Qingyue wasn’t the strongest when it came to true strength, if she wanted to, all the world’s powerful beings would become her loyal followers.
In that brief moment of distraction, Ye Wenxin’s voice came through again. “I need to speed up.”
Long Qingyue responded with a soft “Mm,” and then she felt the force around her waist intensify, making her frown slightly. However, she couldn’t say anything about it, and Ye Wenxin had no way of knowing about the changes in her body. All Long Qingyue could do was endure that sensation—a mix of pain and something strange—and continue on.
Long Qingyue was already fully capable of walking, but she was still accustomed to lying in this person’s arms, enjoying the most comforting embrace in the world. Unfortunately, the embrace was filled with various lingering scents, and Long Qingyue was contemplating how to read Ye Wenxin’s memories to restore everything to its original state.
Ye Wenxin had no idea about this. She continued flying through the air, and after a few moments, they reached the marketplace, where the Corpse Generals were most concentrated. As soon as Ye Wenxin and Long Qingyue descended, the Corpse Generals couldn’t help but charge at them.
Ye Wenxin, still holding Long Qingyue, shouted, “Kill!”
