Chapter 529: A Love Line at Long Last

Wen Susu’s expression turned grave. “Have you not realized my hands and feet are clumsy? Like how you can no longer wield weapons properly after your flexor tendon was severed.”

Listening to her description, Ye Wenxin suddenly understood. She was no longer surprised that Wen Susu could read her memories. Perhaps her past experiences with Long Qingyue had made her less resistant to having her thoughts accessed. As for how Wen Susu would evaluate her memories after viewing them, that was not something Ye Wenxin needed to worry about.

“Then why don’t you go look for them?” Ye Wenxin asked. She realized this Heavenly Book wasn’t as reclusive as she had thought. However, that hesitance reminded her of Lin Meimei1. Maybe Wen Susu needed a few slaps to get her act together.

“My sin keeps me here.” Wen Susu closed her eyes partially, the melancholy in her gaze deepening. Ye Wenxin anticipated another overdramatic story.

“Don’t tell me you’re the reason these people are stuck in this academy, unable to reincarnate?”

Wen Susu parted her lips slightly and gave a bitter smile. “Partly. I did it for the students and… for her.”

In her mind, Ye Wenxin quickly conjured a dramatic storyline featuring Wen Susu and the kitsune’s love-hate relationship. She suddenly felt a bit more sympathy for Wen Susu. However, Wen Susu slowly responded, “Luo Mo and I are just friends. There’s no romance involved.”

Wen Susu had completely read Ye Wenxin’s thoughts, a feat even more terrifying than Long Qingyue’s mind-reading ability. Ye Wenxin decided to stay quiet and began asking her questions inwardly.

“As this matter doesn’t concern you, once I give you your answers, you’ll leave, right?” Wen Susu didn’t seem inclined to open up further, which made Ye Wenxin even more curious. However, knowing she herself had her fair share of problems, she nodded in agreement and then asked the one thing she was most eager to know.

“Is Fairy Fengya the protagonist?”

“In your Earth terms, yes. But in our world, we call her Mother of Heaven.”

Ye Wenxin burst out laughing. “I’ve heard of Son of Heaven, but what’s with Mother of Heaven? Are you telling me Fairy Fengya is capable of immaculate conception?”

“A Son of Heaven is merely under the protection of the heavens. A Mother of Heaven, however, protects all under heaven,” Wen Susu explained.

A chill ran down Ye Wenxin’s spine. She recalled her interactions with Fairy Fengya. She might have been playing with fire all along.

“Don’t worry, Fairy Fengya has no intention of killing you. She’s interested in you, but not enough to pursue you actively. However, Fairy Zhu Ling is a different story. If nothing changes, she will escalate within a year.”

Wen Susu offered her a gentle reminder. The Heavenly Book transcended the Six Paths2 and knew the past and the future. Ironically, she couldn’t figure out where her missing pages were.

However, Ye Wenxin had heard enough of this. She couldn’t help but laugh bitterly at the usual one-year deadline. “Why do I feel like I’m always busy every year?”

Wen Susu smiled softly but had a knowing look in her eyes. “If you had continued to be the Demon Lord, you might’ve been less busy.”

Ye Wenxin was perplexed. “How is that possible? Isn’t being the Demon Lord more exhausting?”

Wen Susu shook her head, speaking with a tone devoid of pity, “No. If you had stayed as the Demon Lord, within a year, Liu Churan would betray you. You will be imprisoned in a dungeon and tortured to death. Oh, and Liu Churan will also follow you in a tragic love suicide.”

Ye Wenxin felt her blood run cold. Even though she had altered the outcome, the thought of what could have happened if she hadn’t taken action—content with the status quo—still made her heart race.

Tortured to death, imprisoned in a dungeon—neither fate was something Ye Wenxin could accept.

While she was in contemplative silence, Wen Susu floated in mid-air, propping her chin with her hands, her legs crossed. She seemed to relish the advantage of being in her familiar domain.

“Then, my second question—how do I get rid of the peach blossom demon in my back?” It was the most troubling issue for Ye Wenxin at the moment.

“She’ll leave once she figures things out.” Unlike her detailed explanations from earlier, Wen Susu’s response was dismissive this time.

“Then she won’t harm me? I can’t help but feel the pain in my back is always her doing.”

“Quite the opposite,” Wen Susu shook her head, sounding unusually solemn. “She’s actually helping you control your ability. You’ve got so much peach blossom energy that it’s turned into a Peach Blossom Curse. If you don’t rein it in, you’ll collapse and die one day.”

Although Ye Wenxin still sensed something amiss, she remembered that the Heavenly Book couldn’t tell lies. So, she nodded, half-convinced by Wen Susu’s explanation.

“Alright, third question—how do I get out of this place?” With her goal achieved, Ye Wenxin immediately asked about leaving.

“You just need to walk around that array drawn in calligraphy at midnight, and you’ll be able to leave.” After finishing her last explanation, Wen Susu let out a big yawn, visibly drained.

“If the Demon Lord has no other questions, this lowly book will take her leave.” Wen Susu’s thin blue veil partially revealed things that shouldn’t be revealed. Noticing Ye Wenxin stealing a few glances, Wen Susu slowly floated down.

Ye Wenxin found Wen Susu overly honest—so honest, it felt strange. It made her think that their conversation had been filled with countless lies.

Thinking about this, Ye Wenxin decided to ask one final question.

“There’s one more thing. I want to know—who do I like?” It was a question that had plagued Ye Wenxin for a long time. She couldn’t figure it out, no matter how much she wracked her brain for the answer. Perhaps the Heavenly Book’s answer would allow her to test the credibility of her powers.

“Fairy Fengya.”

Ye Wenxin felt like she’d just heard the funniest joke ever.

Ye Wenxin could love anyone, but she couldn’t accept the thought of loving the emotionless Fairy Fengya. Her smile faded and her face darkened. The blue Colored Flag appeared in her hand, gathering tiny water droplets that spread throughout the dorm room.

“Be honest with me—are you some kind of cursed book, pretending to be the Heavenly Book to deceive me!?” Ye Wenxin’s tone was fierce, daring Wen Susu to deny it. A ‘no’ from her and those droplets might soak into her book form, erasing her from this realm without a trace.

Wen Susu’s expression soured but still tinged with that ever-present sadness. “I told you the truth. Why is it that whenever you humans hear an unpleasant truth, you immediately dismiss it as a lie?”

Her words stunned Ye Wenxin, but then she shook her head in disbelief. “There’s just no way I like Fairy Fengya. Even if you are the Heavenly Book, you could make mistakes.”

She could imagine having feelings for Ling Jue, Jin Xiaoqin, or even Long Qingyue, but not someone she must not like.

Wen Susu’s words enraged her, but also confused her. What kind of feelings did she have towards Fairy Fengya?

Even the book is resolutely Qingfeng cp lol. Dear Wenxin, you kissed her at the top of the steps, you missed her when you are not with her, you feel jealous if her disciple had kissed her, you feel happy that she has only kissed you, you are so patient and naggy with her like an old couple, you vehemently deny you are in love with her. Looks like you have already fallen for her completely heh
