Chapter 237.3 (Jill’s POV) Walking in the Path I Believe In

ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー

After saying temporary goodbye to God and turning over a new leaf, I embarked on my second chance in life as a humble butler under Bavarian-sama.

On one particular day, I was working hard as Bavarian-sama’s butler, managing his daily affairs. After I had finished preparing Bavarian-sama’s afternoon tea, a messenger came running, looking obviously flustered.

“What’s the matter? You’re being too noisy.”

“Jill-dono! We’re in deep trouble! There’s a massive horde of monsters coming toward this town at this very moment!”

After that, like a beehive being poked by someone, the mansion plunged into turmoil. Starting with Captain Donny, many soldiers were being gathered at a designated command post located within the mansion. They began devising defense tactics for the South Gate, which would be the primary battleground. A command center was erected at the South Gate, located in the soldier’s station.

In case of an emergency, Bavarian-sama along with several officers would remain on standby in the mansion. (If, in the worst case, the South Gate were to fall, the mansion would serve as the new command center.)

“But to think my foolish son is the one who informed the town about the impending danger… Ah, right. Jill, go and verify the truth with your own eyes. Once you’ve confirmed it and tell the truth to me with your own mouth, then I don’t have any reason to doubt it, right?”

Upon receiving a direct order from Bavarian-sama, I set out to the South Gate, accompanied by Captain Donny and the other officers.

When we arrived at the South Gate, I saw ‘that’ Keigo Okuda having some sort of dispute with his wife, Yurina. I found myself watching Captain Donny coming in to calm the arguing married couple with a somewhat distant gaze in my eyes. To think I had been so blind with my goal to the point I tried to trap these kind people… I really had to atone for this sin for the rest of my life.

“Keigo Okuda-dono, I truly apologize for everything I’ve done…”

I sincerely apologized to him but he simply replied.

“It’s fine.”

In the station at the South Gate, there was Heinrich-sama, who appeared to be quite battered. He ad a map spread out on a round table and was engaged in a heated discussion with an officer named Kainel, who was stationed at the South Gate. Upon closer inspection, it seemed they were devising a strategy on how to confront the impending monsters.

Heinrich-sama paid no mind to our arrival. He was completely absorbed in devising the right strategy for this war. All of this for the sake of protecting this town from the monsters.

Heinrich-sama has changed for the better…

Something warm welled up in my chest. However, I had no intention to remain as a mere old man who became overwhelmed with emotions to the point of shedding tears.

I swore in the deepest abyss of despair in my heart that I would become a man worthy to stand beside the one master I had decided to serve.

“……Excuse me, my name is Jill. I’m serving under Bavarian-sama as his messenger. Under the direct order of Bavarian-sama, a command center will be established here for the purpose of subjugating the impending horde of monsters. May I participate in the strategy planning alongside Captain Donny?”

I tightened my grip on the hilt of my beloved sword, which was located at my waist and then straightened my posture as I interrupted the heated discussion ongoing at the round table.

“Ooh! Jill-dono! And Donny-dono too! You’re all here! I had been so helpless, thinking I was all alone in this!”

Kainel-dono had quite an impactful voice, befitting of his stature. And as I expected, Heinrich-sama noticed our presence after that.

“Jill and then, Keigo Okuda. You guys are here too… We don’t have time for pleasantries. Captain Donny, Keigo Okuda, please lend us your wisdom.”

When he glanced at me, his expression changed for a brief second but he immediately suppressed any personal emotions left in his heart and focused on the important task at hand.

T/N: Too bad Jill’s name is not Sebastian.
