Chapter 82 2/2
There was a slight surprise on He Xi’s cool face, showing a hint of joy. She had received a raise just three months ago. Another five percent increase now almost equals the salary of a general assistant.
Even if one day Shengquan didn’t need her anymore, these credentials were enough for He Xi to secure a good position within Starlight Entertainment.
“Thank you, Chairman Sheng.”
Outside of working hours, He Xi was not a talkative person. Even if she wanted to express gratitude, she couldn’t find many words. Instead, she turned her excitement into action, determined to do her current job even more diligently.
Shengquan didn’t have much impression of the show “Happy Travel.” Since moving into her new home, her entertainment activities were limited to movies and TV shows. She generally didn’t watch variety shows, mainly because almost every popular variety show featured people she knew. Acting was one thing, but these shows with a more casual, performative nature often took her out of the experience.
Shengquan still remembered accidentally clicking into a variety show once, where Lin Aike was frantically cooking, and the lid of the pot flew off. She nearly died laughing and immediately sent Lin Aike a mocking message on WeChat.
She didn’t want to join the crowd. Seeing that the reporters with their cameras and microphones hadn’t noticed her, she pressed down her hat and said, “Let’s go.”
Unfortunately, Shengquan herself was indeed low-key, but the team of bodyguards around her was too conspicuous.
With a slight movement, more than ten tall, long-legged, and slender-waisted bodyguards followed her closely. Passersby couldn’t help but look at them more than a few times, especially those who were already sensitive to hot topics and were willing to stake out the airport early for the chance to capture the program’s guests.
“Who is this? Wasn’t the program supposed to come out three minutes later? Did they come out early? But there’s no camera following them.”
“Proxy shooting, the reporters’ eyes lit up.”
A proxy photographer adjusted his hat and said, “Brother, I smell the scent of popularity.”
“Smell what? Hurry up and see who this is! We’re not waiting for this variety show anymore, right?”
“This variety show can’t be avoided, and the guests in this episode are not very famous. There’s nothing good to shoot. If we want to shoot them, we can wait until they’re recording the show. But Shengquan is different. Every time she appears, there’s always a big spectacle. This time, we actually caught up!”
Obviously, many photographers and proxy photographers had similar ideas. While “Happy Travel” wasn’t low in popularity, it wasn’t very high either. There were no superstars among the guests in this episode, and it wasn’t challenging to find follow-up content. Naturally, they chose to abandon the program for Shengquan.
Having been photographed so many times, Shengquan had also learned how to handle it. Those people took their shots, and she went her way.
As for the occasional “Proxy Photographers Rampant” and “Dogged Pursuit by Paparazzi” reported in entertainment news, it was not an issue for her.
For these less reputable reporters, they also had to pick their battles.
Shengquan wasn’t a small-time celebrity who relied on fame to make a living. She had gradually become the chairman of the well-known company Starlight Entertainment. With countless connections in the industry, even if not having media under her, who knows how many people she knows. If they annoyed her and she spoke a word, it might be enough to get them fired.
This was not only the case when facing Shengquan, but also for artists under Starlight. They were more cautious than artists from other companies.
After all, Starlight was known for being wealthy and protective of its artists. In a previous incident, an unknown artist, while filming with a small crew, was harassed by an older actor in the same group. Shengquan directly slapped the person, and the scene turned ugly.
For an unknown new artist, most companies wouldn’t go all out for such a small matter. At most, they would send the agent to the set to handle it and suppress the issue.
But Starlight Entertainment stood firmly behind the unknown artist throughout the entire process. They recorded videos, gathered evidence, and, once the incident was confirmed, immediately filed a lawsuit.
Although the situation wasn’t enough to sentence the older actor, Starlight declared that none of its projects would cooperate with him. Other companies naturally followed suit.
The older actor originally had some reputation, and he only targeted new, less-known artists without background to take advantage. He had accurately judged that companies wouldn’t bother with these lesser-known artists. The result was kicking against the pricks.
For the sake of an unknown new artist, Starlight Entertainment, led by this young chairman, went to such lengths. Shengquan, who appeared to have a good temperament, wouldn’t let them off the hook so easily.
It’s quite funny to think about. Before this incident, Starlight’s artists would encounter some unscrupulous proxy photographers, but after this incident, they suddenly seemed to become more composed.
Naturally, facing Shengquan, this composure would multiply by ten.
They maintained a suitable distance, taking various photos without affecting Shengquan. Some asked questions, but after not receiving a response, they didn’t dare to persist.
With the long-legged bodyguard squad surrounding her, Shengquan smoothly walked forward. As they approached the elevator, she suddenly heard a voice filled with hatred:
“Tang Chen! Go to hell!”
Even though it was clear the yelling wasn’t directed at Shengquan, the extreme tone of hatred made the bodyguard team alert. The elevator door opened, and as Shengquan entered, from her perspective, a group of people was coming out. There were staff, cameras, and some young people with good looks from a distance.
This should be the travel variety show.
Tang Chen… That name sounded familiar.
As the elevator doors slowly closed, Shengquan saw the two people who were loudly cursing and throwing vegetables at a man. While throwing, they were also cursing other names.
Chen Mo, Zhou Ke, Bai Xiangyuan, and so on and so forth. Shengquan didn’t catch all of them clearly, but the two of them, with a rapid pace, cursed seven people in half a minute:
“Are you worthy of us? Losing in such a competition!”
“Bringing shame to Huaxia! Do you know how those foreigners are mocking us?”
“Bai Xiangyuan! If you have the ability, don’t hide! It’s all your fault! Still daring to call yourself the best bottom lane! Ridiculous! Hurry up and retire! Tang Chen, step aside! I haven’t cursed you yet!”
Their main target shouldn’t be Tang Chen because the other party was blocking the way, and he was enduring another round of insults.
And vegetable attacks.
Entering the airport requires bomb checks, so it’s unlikely they brought in anything dangerous. But throwing vegetables? Shengquan had only seen such scenes in TV dramas.
Although the scene of the two people cursing while throwing vegetables was a bit funny, the person being hit probably didn’t have a pleasant experience. However, looking at it, it seemed not to be so bad.
He should be under thirty years old, but he had a mature temperament, not wearing the show’s clothes, not being a guest, but blocking in front. His tall and slender figure stood in front of several seventeen- or eighteen-year-olds, and his sharp eyebrows and eyes made him appear especially handsome.
Compared to the frustration and anger on the faces of the young guests behind him, Tang Chen seemed almost calm.
A vegetable hit him on the face; even if it’s just a vegetable, hitting the face must be painful. However, he just frowned slightly, and when the angry young people behind him wanted to come forward, he raised his hand to stop them.
Lifting his slender fingers, he gently took the vegetable down.
Facing the curses of the two people, Tang Chen took out a folded bag from his pocket, put the vegetable in it, and shaped his lips.
Of course, Shengquan couldn’t hear it, but judging from his mouth shape and the instant explosive expressions of the two black fans behind him, savvy Shengdong quickly guessed:
“Thank you.”
“You don’t need to buy vegetables today.”
