Early on, Charlie had heard from a servant that Isis and Aresia seemed to be searching for something in the castle.
—They were not too far away, and he faintly heard words like “location,” “spacious,” and “not suitable.” He could only speculate that they were looking for a suitable spot that met their requirements, but the specific details were unclear.
Charlie believed that he was more familiar with various locations in the castle than anyone else, given his familiarity with the entire castle.
Upon seeing him, Aresia’s clone nodded at him. “You’re here, Charlie.”
“My teacher is looking for a place to install a magic array. Would you like to join us for reference?” she asked.
Although he didn’t know what kind of magic array it was, Charlie readily agreed, “Of course, it would be my honor.”
He carefully inquired about their requirements.
A long-distance teleportation magic array was a relatively large magical structure. Its foundation required at least four hundred square meters. To protect the teleportation array from the elements and prevent unauthorized access during teleportation, a canopy and fencing needed to be added, increasing the space required.
Since the two teleportation arrays were to be used within the Duke’s Castle, their original plan was to find a relatively hidden location. However, the castle’s concealed spots couldn’t meet their space requirements without cutting down trees or demolishing existing structures. Choosing a suitable location became quite difficult.
After hearing his question, Aresia’s clone controlled by Aresia herself responded. She no longer used a third-person perspective. Instead, she allowed the clone to answer based on her own thoughts.
“We are installing a teleportation array that doesn’t pose any danger during teleportation. As for secrecy, there is no need to assign someone to guard it.”
Upon hearing the term “teleportation array,” Charlie immediately thought of the teleportation array controlled by the Mage Guild. It seemed that this array didn’t require such a large space.
He couldn’t help but feel confused. With a respectful tone, he suggested, “If we place it near the square, it would be more suitable. The square in the castle is quite spacious.”
The castle’s square was usually crowded with soldiers, and it was an open area. Even though they might be considered odd, the soldiers would just take a glance and not be affected.
Aresia considered Charlie’s words. The castle’s square was indeed a suitable location. It was a well-traveled path from the city gates to the interior of the castle. It was always bustling with people, but it wouldn’t attract much attention from soldiers stationed on the walls. This way, their actions wouldn’t be closely scrutinized.
As for secrecy, Aresia thought that if it was placed in a concealed spot, people would inevitably become curious. Even if she prohibited others from approaching, it might spark their interest. It was better to choose a location like the square, where people passed by without paying much attention.
Other than that, Charlie’s words were reasonable. He had previously distributed sea monster meat, and it was known to the soldiers. If they chose a concealed spot, it would be difficult to hide their activities from the soldiers who were familiar with the castle. It was best to consider their point of view.
With Charlie’s words in mind, Aresia made her decision. “We will go with your suggestion and choose the square. People come and go, and soldiers are nearby. Although they may find it odd, they will take a quick glance and not pay much attention. It won’t affect our activities.”
Charlie nodded in agreement. “Understood, I will inform them.”
This magic array was new to him, but he was willing to help. He asked, “Shall I find some craftsmen?”
Aresia nodded.
Charlie left, while the work on this side had just begun and was unlikely to return immediately. It would take some time for the mage to consider whether or not to accept the request.
This long-distance magic teleportation array, aside from teleporting people, could also transport goods. If ten tons of goods were to be transported, it would require a significant amount of time, not to mention the additional space needed to protect the teleportation array and prevent unauthorized access. Thus, a canopy and fencing would be necessary.
However, the initially planned four hundred square meters were not sufficient.
Considering this, the square area near the castle seemed suitable.
—In addition, Aresia took into account the possibility of enemies infiltrating the teleportation array secretly. In such a location as the square, it would be difficult to achieve this.
—However, even though her soul’s wounds had healed, she occasionally experienced moments of unease and lacked thorough consideration when making decisions.
In the end, they settled on the square.
Since the castle was originally built for military purposes, the square was an empty area. Even the common fountains were absent. Some trees near the edges had been pruned, forming shapes similar to Christmas trees, but they didn’t provide any concealment effect.
This was the case for most of the trees within the castle; they were allowed to grow naturally, but they were few in number, as the courtyards were kept neat and tidy.
To make space, some trees had to be removed.
With these factors in mind, Aresia decided to choose a spot on the side of the square, a distance of about ten meters from the castle wall. They marked out an area.
Previously, their plan was to construct a canopy to cover the entire teleportation array and protect it from the elements. However, they changed their minds and decided to build a less costly canopy that covered only the necessary area.
As for the square, they would add a ramp and stairs along the perimeter, as well as a fence one meter away from the platform. Several entrance gates would be included, providing sufficient space. Additionally, four pillars would be erected at the corners of the platform, each three meters high and half a meter in diameter. The top would be flat, as Aresia requested.
Aresia brought a special mixture of potions, a whole bucket of it. She also brought a stack of tools made with magic materials, a brush made of bone, and a pen made of seventh-level magical beast hair—actually, the hair used for these tools came from the tails of several seventh-level gryphons.
