“Well…” the prince asked again, “How is it that Scholar Song has such a high level of knowledge?”
“I remember everything after reading it once,” Song Jingyun’s gaze shifted back and forth between the prince and Jiang Junli, unable to contain his surprise. He couldn’t help but ask, “Can’t you?”
The prince, “…”
Jiang Junli, “…”
Can you guess?
Remembering everything after one read, is this still a human?
This is extraordinary!
Upon hearing Song Jingyun’s words, Jiang Junli’s eyes glimmered with even more admiration.
Let’s face it, there’s a reason why Scholar Song excels every time, while he keeps failing!
It’s not that he’s not diligent or studious enough; it’s purely that his talent is not as exceptional!
With this realization, Jiang Junli suddenly felt a wave of relief wash over him.
After a long moment of stunned silence, the prince finally closed his gaping mouth.
Truly, there are individuals in this world with such extraordinary talents that leave others in awe.
No wonder Jiang Junli praised Song Jingyun so highly, even going as far as saying that he would surely be at the top of the provincial examinations, urging him to serve the court faithfully and contribute to the prosperity of the country.
With such an exceptional ability to remember everything at a glance, what couldn’t he achieve?
The more the prince thought about it, the more excited he became, engaging Song Jingyun in discussions about various topics.
From the poems and songs he had read to the writings of renowned masters, tales of strange and eclectic books, and even discussions on current affairs…
As their conversation continued, the gleam in the prince’s eyes grew brighter, shining even more brilliantly than the stars in the night sky by the end.
Even their facial expressions gradually shifted from astonishment to amazement, and then from amazement to admiration.
The three of them chatted from early morning until noon, enjoyed a simple lunch together, and continued their conversation all the way into the evening.
The prince nodded repeatedly, growing increasingly impressed, “I initially thought Scholar Song’s expertise was limited to memorizing and reading texts, but I never expected him to have such insights into current affairs.”
Truly, he could become a pillar of the nation!
Furthermore, having such a formidable opponent in the upcoming examinations was indeed exhilarating!
“Lord Yin is too kind in his praise,” Song Jingyun politely responded.
The prince disagreed, “Scholar Song, you are more than deserving, there’s no need for modesty.”
Jiang Junli gestured for a feast to be prepared, “Prepare a table of fine food and wine, have it brought here.”
He then looked at the prince and Song Jingyun, smiling, “Since we’ve had such a delightful conversation today, we must make sure to stay until we’re not drunk before we leave.”
Only then can they fully enjoy themselves!
“Great!” the prince wholeheartedly agreed.
However, Song Jingyun hesitated for a moment, his face filled with apologies, “Young Master Jiang and Lord Yin, I shouldn’t decline your generous offer, but I need to go back and have dinner with my wife tonight, so it wouldn’t be appropriate for me to stay long.”
As a couple new to the capital, they were still unfamiliar with everything, and as a man, he felt somewhat constrained in various situations. He was concerned that his wife might feel uncomfortable and insecure, even though Splendorous Garden provided all necessities. It was rare for someone like him to bring his wife along for the examinations; she might feel isolated without anyone to talk to, eating alone or spending the whole day in the courtyard, likely feeling quite lonely.
Song Jingyun wanted to go back and accompany his wife.
The prince and Jiang Junli were genuinely surprised by Song Jingyun’s refusal.
Furthermore, they were taken aback by how candidly he stated his reasons without any reservation.
However, reflecting on the fact that Song Jingyun was one of the few candidates who brought family members with them for the examinations, coupled with the memory of yesterday when the prince’s invitation for a gathering was declined because Song Jingyun had to accompany Jiang Mixia for a leisurely stroll in the streets, everything seemed perfectly reasonable.
