But nothing in this world is smooth sailing all the time.
Especially since the spring examinations only happen once every three years, gathering the best scholars from across the country in the capital, with many talented individuals, Song Jingyun might not necessarily be the outstanding one…
If Song Jingyun fails to make the list, Jiang Mixia doesn’t feel it’s a big deal, but Song Jingyun himself…
After all, someone used to walking on flat roads might find it difficult to suddenly walk on rugged and bumpy mountain paths, and the psychological gap is not something everyone can bear.
Jiang Mixia was worried, and this worry was clearly reflected on her face.
“My dear, there’s no need to worry so much,” Song Jingyun said, placing the small stone mortar he used for exercise on the ground.
After a period of practice, Song Jingyun’s strength had increased rapidly, and the muscle lines on his arms were very noticeable.
Wiping his sweat with a towel, Song Jingyun walked over to Jiang Mixia and poured her a cup of warm tea, “I will definitely make the list this time.”
“So confident?” Jiang Mixia, who was making an undergarment for Song Jingyun, paused her hand holding the needle, tilting her head and smiling at Song Jingyun.
“Naturally,” Song Jingyun puffed out his chest.
“Because you have the strength?” Jiang Mixia sipped her tea.
It’s quite common for people to be confident because of their strength.
“Not really,” Song Jingyun shook his head, “it’s a feeling. I feel that I will definitely pass the examinations.”
Jiang Mixia was speechless.
So, he’s relying on luck?
But then again, luck has always been a form of strength, and Song Jingyun’s luck has always been good…
The day of the announcement finally arrived.
Early in the morning, the entrance of the Imperial College was already packed with people.
Besides the scholars waiting to see the list, there were also many onlookers from the general public, ready to see which candidates would be named on the list and who would be the top scorer.
Moreover, every spring examination announcement day, the scholars displayed a variety of attitudes and behaviors.
Some were overjoyed to the point of madness, kneeling on the street to thank the heavens and the court, throwing money around.
Others, not finding their names on the list, were dejected and wailed like mourning parents, even cursing the unfairness of the examination and causing trouble, only to be taken away by the officers.
Still, others had their names on the list but were dissatisfied with their rankings, arguing endlessly with others, quarreling and even fighting in public…
In short, it was quite an eye-opener.
Many people loved to watch the commotion, and at this moment, they were eagerly waiting, even the small vendors saw an opportunity and were selling their wares nearby, hoping to earn more money.
The scholars from Splendorous Garden were also making plans to go to the Imperial College entrance in groups of two or three.
Faced with invitations from others, Song Jingyun politely declined, “You all go ahead, I have something to do and will be there later.”
Everyone had their own plans, especially when it came to the announcement of the results. Many people didn’t want their expressions to be seen by others and preferred to go alone.
The other scholars didn’t insist and, after some polite exchanges, left one after another.
Seeing that Song Jingyun had seen off the others, Jiang Mixia walked over, “You said you were going out earlier, but now you say you have something to do?”
“I am going out, but not with them, and not to see the list,” Song Jingyun scratched the back of his head, chuckling mysteriously.
“Then what are you going to do?” Jiang Mixia was puzzled.
“My dear will find out if you come with me,” Song Jingyun was being secretive, only pulling Jiang Mixia to go outside.
Jiang Mixia was still full of questions but followed Song Jingyun out of Splendorous Garden.
