Following the commotion, there was a clamor, and the sound of chairs and tables falling.
Jiang Mixia and the others were startled and rushed to see what had happened. They found Jiang Youcheng, Jiang Youfu, Jiang Chunshi, and the collapsed Song Jingyun in a panic.
Had he fainted?
Jiang Mixia hurried over, checked his breathing, and pinched his acupoint…
After a flurry of activity, Song Jingyun still showed no response, lying there limp like a rag doll.
However, his breathing was steady, his complexion healthy, and his pulse strong. It didn’t seem like a sudden pathological fainting spell. Moreover, his exhalation carried a distinct and heavy scent of alcohol…
This wasn’t a faint; it was drunkenness.
“How much did he drink?” Jiang Mixia helped Song Jingyun up, feeling helpless.
“I don’t think he drank much,” Jiang Youfu was a bit shaken, having thought something terrible had happened. Now seeing that he was fine, he felt a bit relieved. “We were just talking, and we didn’t push him to drink or play drinking games.”
“I saw him down a big bowl just now,” Jiang Chunshi felt somewhat embarrassed. “I thought he could hold his liquor, so I didn’t pay much attention. I thought he was just drinking to relax, didn’t expect…”
Who would have known that Song Jingyun’s tolerance was so low that a single bowl could knock him down.
Alright, it seemed that this was Song Jingyun’s first time drinking, unaware of the potency of alcohol, and ended up drinking too much.
“If Jingyun is this drunk, I’ll take him back to sleep for a while,” Jiang Mixia said, lifting Song Jingyun onto her back.
“Alright, your father and I will head back in a while,” Liu shi saw them off, reminding Jiang Mixia, “It’s hot, so when you get back, remember to help him change his clothes, wipe him down with warm water to get rid of the alcohol, prepare some herbal tea for when he wakes up.”
A person who’s drunk is often thirsty, and even if they haven’t sobered up, they will often groggily seek water when they wake up.
Remove his clothes and wipe him down?
Jiang Mixia hesitated for a moment, then absentmindedly nodded in response to Liu shi’s advice, before carrying her drunken husband back home.
Upon arriving home, she laid him on the bed, helped him remove his outer garments, and hesitated as she looked at the semi-clothed Song Jingyun.
After the start of autumn, it was the time to fatten up for the coming season. Song Jingyun’s appetite had increased, and he had put on some weight.
What was once a small rib had slowly become a spare rib, and now, he seemed to have a little bit of a pork belly.
A perfect balance of lean and fat.
The shoulders weren’t particularly broad but were well-defined, and the slightly open collar of the undershirt revealed most of the chest, with the beginnings of a defined muscular line.
Paired with Song Jingyun’s flushed and innocently smiling face…
Ahem, it’s best not to look!
Jiang Mixia averted her gaze, preparing the tea while hesitating about following Liu shi’s earlier advice.
Undress him and then wipe him down with warm water…
It felt somewhat improper. Although they had shared a bed for several months since arriving here, they had always maintained a respectful distance, especially regarding private matters. Jiang Mixia had always maintained that distinction and had also taught Song Jingyun about the boundaries between men and women.
After all, they were still young, and some things felt premature.
But now, with Song Jingyun’s low tolerance for alcohol and the hot weather…
Well, there was no use overthinking it. She was his lawful wife, and sooner or later, they would have to be open with each other. These things were just a matter of time.
Moreover, today she was doing this for his well-being.
She wasn’t taking advantage; she was doing a good deed!
Jiang Mixia gritted her teeth, resolved, and reached out to loosen Song Jingyun’s undershirt. But before she could undo the ties, Song Jingyun, who had been unconscious, slowly opened his eyes.
Realizing he was lying on the bed with his outer clothes piled nearby and Jiang Mixia about to undo his undershirt…
Song Jingyun first looked bewildered, then swiftly scrambled up like a startled rabbit, curling up in the corner of the bed, his face filled with fear as he gazed at Jiang Mixia. “W-wife, what are you doing…”
Jiang Mixia, “…”
He sobered up so quickly?
And at such a crucial moment…
This was awkward.
“If I said I was going to undress you and then help you wipe down to sober up, would you believe me?” Judging from Song Jingyun’s defensive posture and his expression, Jiang Mixia felt he probably wouldn’t believe her.
So…
After a moment’s hesitation, Jiang Mixia spoke up, “Do you remember getting drunk at Uncle’s house?”
Song Jingyun thought for a moment and nodded gently, “I think I do.”
Good, if he remembered, that would make things easier.
“That’s it. You drank too much, and you passed out on the ground. Our parents asked me to carry you back,” Jiang Mixia said, appearing distressed, “But as soon as I got you back and put you on the bed, you started acting crazy, insisting the bed was a bathtub and trying to strip and jump in. I couldn’t stop you, so I had to force your clothes back on you…”
Song Jingyun, “…”
He had gotten so drunk, and acted like this?
It seemed that while the alcohol tasted good, drinking too much made him do strange things.
Not only was it embarrassing, but it also frightened his wife.
Song Jingyun felt a sense of remorse, “My apologies, wife. I won’t drink so much in the future.”
“You really shouldn’t drink that much,” Jiang Mixia agreed, nodding emphatically.
Otherwise, it would be quite a hassle.
“Are you thirsty? I just made some tea. It’s probably not too hot now, which should be just right. People who are drunk often feel very thirsty and uncomfortable. Having a bit of tea should make you feel better,” Jiang Mixia swiftly changed the subject.
“Alright,” Song Jingyun hurriedly put on his outer clothes and then accepted the tea, drinking it all in one go.
Jiang Mixia poured another cup.
After finishing the second cup, Song Jingyun’s fiery throat felt much better.
“How are you feeling now? Would you like to rest for a while?” Jiang Mixia inquired.
“I’m a bit dizzy. I really feel like taking a nap,” Song Jingyun replied, yawning.
“Take a nap then. I’ll wake you up when it’s time for dinner,” Jiang Mixia prepared some more tea and then fetched her paper and specially crafted charcoal pencil, preparing to sketch the designs for two puppets.
Song Jingyun lay on the bed, closing his eyes.
He hadn’t removed his outer clothes.
As Jiang Mixia sat at the table and saw Song Jingyun sleeping in his clothes, she felt a bit embarrassed.
She truly felt sorry, but considering the situation at the time…
After all, since he was her husband, it was only right for him to share some of her burdens, wasn’t it? Besides, she was diligently sketching designs to earn more money, to buy some good food for her husband, and to compensate for the inconvenience.
On the whole, she was a devoted wife…
With these thoughts, her sense of guilt diminished considerably.
