The Farmer’s Wife has a Magical Spiritual Spring Chapter 107

Chapter 107 The whole story of how Tiedan fell into the water

“Alright! Auntie Hua, you dare to imply that it was your son who saved mine and even subtly expect me to thank you, all in the hope of gaining some benefits from me, don’t you? You’re trying to take advantage of me, you filthy and conniving woman! No wonder you became a widow so early, with a heart as black as yours! Even the heavens can’t tolerate you!”

Upon hearing what Niu Dabao said, Dazhu’s wife toad-like eyes bulged even larger than Niu’s as she began shouting at Auntie Hua.

Both Dazhu’s Wife and Auntie Hua were gossipy types, and people with similar personalities can either become friends or enemies. These two belonged to the latter category. When Auntie Hua claimed that it was Niu Dabao who saved Tiedan, Dazhu’s Wife didn’t express any gratitude. Now, upon hearing that Auntie Hua had lied, she thought she intended to swindle money or gifts from her, she couldn’t let it slide and started cursing her.

Auntie Hua couldn’t maintain her composure, her face flushing with embarrassment. She had only thought that if her son had indeed saved someone, she could benefit from it a bit. Who would have thought her foolish son would spill everything? He was too naive, just like his dead father!

“I didn’t say anything wrong! It was the Sacred Beast that pulled Tiedan up. It was there nearby. If it hadn’t scared Tiedan, would he have fallen into the ice pit? Moreover, my son also helped get him from the ice to the riverbank. If it weren’t for him, could the Sacred Beast have left? Who knows, Tiedan might have been eaten by the Sacred Beast! What’s wrong with me saying my son saved yours?”

Auntie Hua was cunning in her defense, truly having a silver tongue. After explaining to the onlookers, she turned her attention back to Dazhu’s Wife. Her eyes were bulging even larger than Dazhu’s Wife’s.

“Dazhu’s Wife, if it weren’t for my son getting your Tiedan onto the ground, he would have been lying on the ice. He would have either drowned or frozen to death! You ungrateful wretch! You want to extort money from others without even considering offering gratitude in return. You’re the one with a black heart! Even if Tiedan develops health problems in the future, it’s all because of you, his mother!”

“How dare you accuse me of harming my son? I’ll shut your mouth!”

Dazhu’sWife charged at Auntie Hua, and the two women wrestled with each other, only being separated by the people around them after much effort. Their hair was disheveled, and blood streaks appeared on their faces.

Su Zhi watched in speechless disbelief. Weren’t they supposed to be discussing the incident with the Sacred Beast and Tiedan? How did they end up fighting each other?

“You two sort out your own matters later. Let’s focus on the issue between the Sacred Beast and Tiedan for now. If we can prove that the Sacred Beast saved Tiedan, then we need to determine if the Sacred Beast actually chased him into the river. I believe we can find out,” Su Zhi said, then turned to Dabao and asked, “Brother Dabao, you said you knew Tiedan fell into the ice hole because you heard someone shouting. Do you know who was shouting, or did you see it?”

Dabao was still holding onto his mother. He felt embarrassed for her today. When Su Zhi asked, he quickly hid his mother behind him and scratched his head, saying, “I only heard the voices of some kids. I didn’t see anyone.”

Shen Zi’an interjected, “Think carefully. If you can’t remember, it’s okay. We can find out who Tiedan usually plays with, and then we can find out.”

Tiedan racked his brain, feeling the pressure of everyone’s eyes on him. He closed his eyes and tried to remember. Finally, he said, “It seems like it was Tietou. Yes, it was Tietou.”

Tietou was the son of a widow in the village, named Wang Huazhi. Her husband passed away when Tietou was only one year old. Now Tietou was seven years old, and the mother and son relied on each other.

Since Wang Huazhi wasn’t present, Li Zheng sent someone to bring her and her son over.

Shortly afterward, the person who went to fetch them returned, accompanied by Wang Huazhi and her son. Everyone was surprised. These two families weren’t very close, so how did they manage to find them so quickly?

Su Zhi observed the widow, Wang Huazhi, who appeared to be around twenty-five or twenty-six years old. She had an average appearance but was quite fair and thin. Despite the patches on her clothes, they were neatly sewn and clean, indicating her cleanliness and tidiness. Su Zhi could tell from her straight posture and clear eyes that she was a strong and virtuous woman. In some ways, she reminded Su Zhi of herself back when she divorced and had to pretend to be strong while feeling lonely. However, Wang Huazhi lacked the weakness that Su Zhi had back then, likely because as a widow, she had to stand on her own feet over the years and hadn’t been subjected to the same kind of oppression as Su Zhi.

There was a boy standing beside Wang Huazhi, small and skinny, with red eyes as if he had been crying earlier. Su Zhi could empathize with him; if he had witnessed what happened to Tiedan and Tiedan was his friend, it was understandable for him to be scared and upset.

Wang Huazhi spoke as soon as she entered, “I saw my son, Tietou, crying inside the house. When I asked him, he told me that Tiedan had fallen into the river. I came to check on Tiedan, and halfway there, I was told by Li Zheng’s messenger to come here. I’m not sure what’s going on.”

“You’ve come at just the right time!” Dazhu’s  Wife glared fiercely at Wang Huazhi. “My son Tiedan was playing with your son Tietou. How come my Tiedan fell into the water while your Tietou is fine? I’m going to hold you accountable! Your arrival is perfect! Let me tell you, if anything happens to my son, your Tietou won’t get away with it!

Li Qing’s Wife raised an eyebrow upon hearing this. “Dazhu’s wife, what you’re saying is unfair. How can it be that just because Tietou plays with your son, he has to fall into the ice hole also? According to you, anyone who plays with your son has to bear the responsibility for his life and death? Who would dare play with your son then? He’s indeed a precious child! Anyway, I’ll make sure my son stays away from yours from now on!”

Zhao Feng chuckled behind her hand. “Mine too.”

Onlookers chimed in, agreeing that their children should avoid playing with Tiedan in the future. Dazhu’s wife’s face turned red and then pale with anger.

Wang Huazhi wasn’t intimidated by Dazhu’s wife’s aggressive demeanor. She held her son close and frowned. “My son didn’t play with Tiedan. Tiedan invited my son Tietou to go ice-skating, but my son refused. That’s why he didn’t fall into the ice hole. How can you blame my son? If he hadn’t called for help, nobody would have known that Tiedan had fallen into the ice hole.”

As soon as Wang Huazhi spoke, everyone realized that Tiedan hadn’t been chased into the river by the Sacred Beast; he had fallen into the ice hole while attempting to skate on the ice himself.

Upon hearing this, Dazhu’s wife was taken aback. She glared at Tietou and said, “Tietou, don’t you dare lie! How could my Tiedan go skating on the river? He was chased into the river by a big white wolf. Isn’t that right? Tell the truth!”

Shen Zi’an intervened, “Don’t scare him.”

Others also advised Dazhu’s wife not to frighten Tietou and asked Tietou to recount what happened.

Tietou, standing next to Wang Huazhi, said, “Tiedan wanted to play on the ice, but I didn’t want to go. Mother warned us that the ice was thin and we might fall through. But Tiedan insisted on going, and then he fell.”

Zhao Xiaohua chimed in, “How did the Sacred Beast appear? Don’t lie. Children who lie won’t grow up!”

Wang Huazhi was displeased with Zhao Xiaohua’s accusation. She retorted, “Zhao Xiaohua, what are you saying? Which child  doesn’t tell lies? You’re not afraid of hurting the parents’ feelings with your words!”

Onlookers also criticized Zhao Xiaohua. They all had children themselves and knew that all children lied at some point. Zhao Xiaohua’s words had offended many people.

Zhao Xiaohua grumbled, “I just wanted him to tell the truth. Who knows if he’s lying or not?”

Su Zhi thought Zhao Xiaohua was utterly clueless. She used to suspect Zhao Xiaohua’s intentions towards her husband, but now it seemed she had overestimated her. Didn’t she realize that her words were tarnishing her reputation in the village? Perhaps she’d find it hard to find good marriage prospects in the future with such behavior.

Tietou said, “I didn’t lie.”

Su Zhi asked, “Tietou, can you tell Auntie if you saw the Sacred Beast at that time? The big white wolf?”

Tietou looked at Su Zhi, smiling as she questioned him. He found this smiling aunt quite attractive, which eased his fear a bit. He said, “After Tiedan fell, I screamed in fear, and then the big white wolf came out. I saw it and got scared, so I ran away. I ran back home and hid in the house. Then my mother found me, and I told her that Tiedan had fallen into the water. She brought me out, and that’s when I found out Tiedan was okay. Aunt, did the big white wolf save Tiedan?”

Although Tietou was young and a bit timid, he spoke clearly, and everyone understood what he said.

Su Zhi smiled and patted his head, saying, “Yes, the big white wolf pulled Tiedan up. You don’t need to be afraid of it in the future. It doesn’t bite good children. See, it even saves people.”

Tietou nodded in agreement.

Su Zhi turned to Li Zheng and said, “Li Zheng, you see, everything is clear now. The whole story is that Tiedan went ice skating and accidentally fell into the ice hole, then the Sacred Beast saved him. It wasn’t the Sacred Beast chasing him into the river at all. I think it’s time to clear its name.”

Shen Zi’an added, “The Sacred Beast is very spiritual, and everyone should know by now that it won’t bite people randomly. And now, it even saves people. I believe from now on, no one will doubt its spiritual nature.”

The onlookers immediately echoed in agreement. They also knew that the Sacred Beast had been wronged. Not only did it not bite people, but it also saved them. Now everyone looked at the Dazhu family, thinking that they had mistaken the Sacred Beast, who had saved their son, as the one who harmed him. They also wondered how Shen Zi’an and his wife would respond to this.
