Shen Zi’an had put a lot of thought into preparing this bridal chamber night. He knew that red was indispensable—not only was it festive, but it also held deep cultural significance. So, in his mind, red became the foundation. He had arranged the bridal chamber exactly as he had imagined, hoping that his wife would be pleased.
Now, the result was evident—his wife was very satisfied.
Suddenly, Shen Zi’an felt Su Zhi embrace him. Feeling the softness of her lips, he slowly closed his eyes. His hand tightened around Su Zhi, while the other rested gently on her head, deepening the kiss.
Su Zhi felt Shen Zi’an’s excitement, her face growing even redder. Her body seemed to melt into his embrace like spring water, her hands wrapped around his neck. The impulse she had felt earlier had vanished, replaced by a passive acceptance of his intimacy. However, after a moment, she began to feel a bit uncomfortable. She gently opened her eyes, looking at Shen Zi’an’s closed eyelashes so close to her, feeling his breath. She wondered why he was only kissing her lips.
In a split second, a thought flashed through Su Zhi’s mind—could it be that Shen Zi’an thought kissing was just about touching lips? After she slightly parted her lips, confirming that Shen Zi’an was indeed only kissing her lips, Su Zhi felt certain about this.
Shen Zi’an, who had been lost in the moment, suddenly felt his wife trembling in his arms, her trembling growing more intense. He reluctantly moved his lips away, only to see his wife smiling brightly and giggling a bit. His face turned even redder than before.
“Wife…”
Before Shen Zi’an could finish his sentence, Su Zhi pulled his head down and kissed him again. Her tiny tongue traced his lips, then slipped between his teeth, gently brushing against his tongue. It curled up skillfully, intertwining with his softly.
Wide-eyed, Shen Zi’an felt Su Zhi’s movements. As their lips and teeth intertwined, his mind seemed to explode with colors, as if countless voices were echoing in his head. But eventually, only their breaths remained. Quickly, he took charge, returning the kiss with tenderness yet dominance.
Su Zhi felt that Shen Zi’an had learned, and she was no longer the initiator but a collaborator, enjoying the tenderness and sweetness he brought her. She felt soft all over, as if she could float away like air.
Shen Zi’an found Su Zhi’s lips sweet, and he wanted to savor them as much as possible, but he was afraid of hurting her. He could only gently take what she offered. Finally, at Su Zhi’s gentle push, he released her lips, feeling like he was struggling to catch his breath, panting heavily.
Su Zhi wasn’t much better off. Her face was as red as the nearby red curtain, panting heavily, her eyes slightly narrowed, watery, with a hint of charm that was more than usual. It almost tempted Shen Zi’an to kiss her again, but he managed to control himself, just touching her face, cradling her in his arms as if she were a precious treasure, calming their rapid breaths and heartbeats together.
Shen Zi’an had never known that kisses between men and women could bring such ecstatic joy, if he hadn’t been so determined to complete the arrangements for their wedding night, he wouldn’t have wanted to stop.
Su Zhi was even more delighted than Shen Zi’an, and knowing that her husband didn’t even know how to deep kiss amused her, easing much of the nervousness she felt about welcoming their wedding night. Thinking about being with such a man, she had no resistance at all.
“Wife, do you like the wedding night I prepared for you?”
Shen Zi’an looked at Su Zhi’s flushed face, as if she had applied rouge, and felt that his wife looked really beautiful today. Although Su Zhi was not stunningly beautiful, she was no longer the ugly woman she used to be. One could even say she was attractive, with her fair, egg-shaped face, pointed chin, watery eyes, and rosy lips. Now, with a joyful expression, her usual seven-point beauty was enhanced to ten points. In Shen Zi’an’s eyes, she was the most beautiful woman in the world. Seeing her so happy and beautiful, he felt that all his preparations were worthwhile.
Su Zhi nodded and said, “I like it, Husband, thank you.”
Shen Zi’an looked at his blushing wife, her eyes shining, calling him “Husband”, and he felt a surge of excitement throughout his body. To cover up his embarrassment, he let go of his wife, raised his hand to pull open the curtain on the kang, revealing the scene inside.
“Wife, do you like it?”
On both sides of the kang were cabinets, with neatly arranged quilts on top, covered with red cloth. In the middle of the kang was a large quilt, spread out, made of silk with a bright red base, embroidered with the playful scene of mandarin ducks frolicking in water. There were also two silk pillows embroidered with the same design.
But that wasn’t all. On the opposite wall hung a horizontal scroll painting, wide and large, depicting numerous peony flowers. When hung up, it immediately caught the eye, as if one could truly see the blossoming of spring.
Su Zhi looked at everything and really wanted to kiss Shen Zi’an again. She felt that although her fate in her previous life was unfortunate—her parents had conflicts, her marriage was unhappy, and she fell ill and died early—this time around, she not only possessed the Spiritual Spring a magical white Lotus but also had such a loving husband. This life was truly worth it.
“How did you think of such meticulous details? How did you know that this is the kind of room I wanted? Husband, it’s like you knew exactly how I wanted to arrange our room.”
Su Zhi looked at Shen Zi’an, tightly holding his hand. This was her ideal bridal chamber; there was nothing better than this.
Seeing his wife so pleased, Shen Zi’an was also very happy. He was able to make Su Zhi so satisfied because he remembered every word she said.
Su Zhi mentioned wanting to hang curtains on the windows, so he thought of hanging red curtains. Not only that, but he also thought about having curtains on the bed, so that the inside of the kang could be blocked. He didn’t want others to see his wife’s appearance on the kang. When his wife mentioned liking big, flowery patterns, and said that there were still a few missing paintings on the wall, he thought of buying paintings with big, flowery patterns.
Shen Zi’an had Su Zhi in his heart and wanted to give her the best, so he naturally managed to fulfill everything she wanted.
“As long as you’re happy. Oh, I also had clothes made.”
Shen Zi’an pointed to the clothes next to the bed, picked up a set, and handed it to Su Zhi, saying, “Wife, come, put this on. Today is our bridal night, so you should dress up like a bride.”
Su Zhi looked at the red clothes in her hands, impressed by Shen Zi’an’s attention to detail. She liked it. Although the person who got married to Shen Zi’an was also her, she had no memory of it before. Now, everything was coming back to her! Su Zhi happily changed into the clothes. Shen Zi’an also changed into his clothes. After they were dressed, they looked at each other and saw themselves reflected in each other’s eyes.
Clothes make the man, and Su Zhi and Shen Zi’an were not unattractive to begin with. Now, dressed in red clothes, they looked even better.
Seeing his wife looking at him, Shen Zi’an knew she liked how he looked. He was very happy about it and liked how his wife looked too. Looking at her fair face, he didn’t want to think about the old bridal chamber at all. The past seemed like a nightmare, while the present felt like a beautiful dream.
Su Zhi and Shen Zi’an knelt on the kang again to pay their respects to the heavens and earth, feeling the significance of the moment. She felt that the one marrying Shen Zi’an was truly herself. Then, they happily got off the kang together to eat. Before dinner, they drank a cup of wine together. After two cups of wine, Su Zhi enjoyed the delicious meal cooked by Shen Zi’an, finding it very sweet and fragrant.
After finishing their meal, Shen Zi’an moved to tidy up the table, but Su Zhi stopped him.
“Let’s tidy up tomorrow. Today is our bridal night. Haven’t you heard a saying before?”
“What saying?”
Being stopped by Su Zhi and hearing her mention the bridal night, Shen Zi’an looked at her red face and shining eyes. Thinking about the sweet taste of her red lips, he asked straight out.
Su Zhi chuckled and kissed him before their lips met, softly saying, “A moment of spring night is worth a thousand pieces of gold.”
Shen Zi’an’s face turned red in an instant. His wife was indeed mischievous. He kissed her lips as she leaned in, then lifted her onto the kang.
Drawing the red curtains closed, the two intertwined together.
Shen Zi’an kissed Su Zhi, starting from her delicate eyebrows, closed eyes, down to her straight nose, and red lips, then further down to her snowy-white neck.
His hands gently unfastened the buttoned clothes, gradually revealing her snow-white and exquisite body.
Shen Zi’an gazed at Su Zhi’s beautiful collarbones, resembling two butterfly wings, and kissed them as if cherishing a treasure. His kisses trailed down slowly, each one leading further down, as the clothes continued to slip off.
Su Zhi kept her eyes closed, but when Shen Zi’an’s lips landed on that sensitive spot, she opened her eyes and grabbed his shoulder.
Even though the room was warmed by the charcoal fire and the cozy kang, Su Zhi still shivered. Shen Zi’an noticed it keenly and immediately covered her with a blanket before undressing and joining her.
The bright red blanket rustled as clothes were thrown out one by one, accompanied by soft moans.
The red candles burned, illuminating the entire room brightly, but only a hint of light passed through the red curtains, leaving the scene inside obscured.
Su Zhi felt Shen Zi’an’s gentleness as she held onto his neck. In her mind at that moment, there was nothing else but a sea of red and a pair of tender eyes. A voice kept calling her “wife, wife,” and in that voice, she felt like a red flower, slowly drifting away with the wind, towards the clouds.
