Chapter 2 – Supplies
After coming out of the space, Lin Luo first went to the kitchen to cook a bowl of egg noodles. Once her stomach was filled, she found a rental website on her phone and rented a warehouse near the villa. Using the excuse of opening a supermarket, she placed massive orders on Taobao for all kinds of rice, flour, grains, oil, condiments, and bottled mineral water, as well as daily necessities and bedding.
She also bought clothes for all four seasons—pants, down jackets, shoes—mainly casual and sportswear, covering men, women, and children of all ages. She thought that in the future, if she happened to meet like-minded companions, she could even give some away. Of course, when she saw some beautiful dresses, she could not resist buying them either. There would always be opportunities to wear them later.
She placed more huge orders for high-quality fruits, all kinds of snacks, and milk. She did not leave out baby supplies either.
She had all the sellers deliver the goods to the rented warehouse. After that, Lin Luo found a fitted sports outfit in the cloakroom, put it on, and tied her slightly wavy long hair into a high ponytail.
Lin Luo glanced at the mirror. Ever since she had transmigrated into the book, she had not taken a good look at what the original owner looked like.
At 165 cm tall, even the simplest clothes showcased Lin Luo’s fine figure. Her skin was so fair it seemed to glow, with not a single pore in sight. Her face was stunning, pure yet enticing.
“Tsk.” she thought. Truly worthy of being the campus belle—much more beautiful than the celebrities on television. But such a face in the apocalypse would only be a burden, easily attracting unwanted attention.
Like the original owner, Lin Luo had also obtained her driver’s license at eighteen. She went to the garage to fetch a car and drove toward Commercial Street.
On Commercial Street, she chose a training center that seemed relatively reliable and went inside.
“Hello, Miss-jie. May I ask if I can learn knife techniques here?” The receptionist looked up at Lin Luo, and her eyes flashed with amazement. Wow, this girl was so beautiful—could she be a celebrity?
“Hello, Miss. Yes, we do teach knife techniques here, but it’s a bit niche. Are you sure you want to learn? We also have many other popular courses. You might want to consider them.” Miss-jie was astonished as she looked at Lin Luo. The quiet and well-mannered young lady actually wanted to learn knife fighting?
“Thank you, Miss-jie. No need to think it over. I’ll just learn knife techniques.” Lin Luo smiled as she replied.
Miss-jie was instantly floored by Lin Luo’s smile, dazed as she helped her complete the registration.
Following Miss-jie’s directions, Lin Luo went to the training room on the third floor. After explaining her purpose to the instructor, she began her training as instructed.
At first, she practiced clumsily, stumbling here and there, but after working hard to get used to it, she gradually began to look the part.
After agreeing with the instructor on a daily training schedule, Lin Luo drove for more than an hour to Fengshou Village, a demonstration village for farming and livestock raising. The villagers grew all kinds of crops and raised all kinds of poultry and livestock.
When she arrived and parked the car, Lin Luo saw an old man resting under the shade of a tree. She went over and explained her purpose to him. “Hello, Grandpa. I want to purchase some crops and livestock. Could you tell me where I should go to make the transaction?”
The old man sized up the young and pretty girl before him. “Little lass, what do you want to buy all these things for?”
Meeting the old man’s puzzled gaze, Lin Luo answered: “It’s like this. I’m a supermarket’s purchasing agent, and the company sent me here to buy agricultural products.”
The old man nodded in sudden realization and gestured for Lin Luo to follow him to the village chief’s house. Repeating her earlier words to the village chief, she asked him to quickly gather all kinds of vegetables, as well as chickens, ducks, geese, cattle, sheep, and pigs.
“Village Chief, I want the livestock slaughtered and packed into boxes, and the vegetables sorted and packed by type as well. Don’t worry about the money—it’s not a problem. I just need to trouble you to prepare as much as possible. I’ll take however much you can gather.”
The village chief’s face broke into deep folds of laughter, and he happily agreed at once.
After paying the deposit and agreeing to come pick up the goods in three days, Lin Luo drove back.
In the blink of an eye, the next day arrived. After practicing her knife techniques, Lin Luo made another trip to the seafood wholesale market, where she ordered various seafood products from the boss and arranged for them to be delivered to the warehouse the next day, then drove back to the villa.
Time passed quickly. More than a month went by. Every day, aside from training in knife techniques, Lin Luo was busy preparing supplies. Since gasoline and medicine could not be bought in large quantities, she went around to all the gas stations and pharmacies in Z City, stockpiling bit by bit until the quantity became quite considerable.
She also went to places selling generators and solar panels, where she hoarded a large amount of goods.
As for various outdoor survival supplies, she stocked up on everything she could get.
Her preparations were almost complete—only the custom Tang dao and the modified off-road vehicle had yet to arrive.
Early one morning, Lin Luo was startled awake by the sound of her phone ringing. Half-asleep, she fumbled for her phone and glanced at the caller ID.
It was Luo Yueyue. Searching through her memory, Lin Luo recalled that this was the original owner’s good friend, a wealthy heiress from a powerful family—rich, influential, and straightforward in personality.
After the apocalypse began, she had sacrificed herself while protecting the original owner during their escape from school. She had been the only person by the original owner’s side who had truly cared for her.
“Hello—” Lin Luo’s voice was soft and a little husky, carrying a charm that could make one’s ears tingle.
“Luo Luo, you heartless little thing! If I hadn’t called you, were you planning to forget all about me, huh?” Luo Yueyue’s face was full of mock ferocity as she questioned Lin Luo.
Lin Luo immediately sat up straight, smoothing things over for her friend. “Darling Yueyue, I could forget anyone, but I would never forget you!”
“Really? Then how come you haven’t contacted me for over a month?” Luo Yueyue asked suspiciously.
“I’ve just been too busy, I’m sorry, okay? Forgive me, please?” Lin Luo wheedled into the phone, acting spoiled toward her friend.
“Fine, fine. Seeing you act this cute, this Miss will generously forgive you.” Ah, who could resist Luo Luo’s coquettish pleading? Her heart melted instantly.
“Little Luo Luo, summer vacation is almost over. Do you want to come over to my place to hang out?”
“When you come, stay at my house. We can sleep together. How about that?” Luo Yueyue suggested excitedly.
Luo Yueyue’s family lived in S City. The Southern Base had been established right in the wealthy district where Yueyue’s family lived, because many high-ranking military and government officials resided there. When the apocalypse began, the situation in that area was quickly brought under control, and a safe base was set up.
With her family’s influence, Yueyue could have lived quite well after the apocalypse. But because she had come early to Z City to visit the original owner, she had gotten trapped at school and died far too soon.
Thinking of Yueyue’s fate in the book, Lin Luo felt a pang of regret. Perhaps she could change it. As long as Yueyue did not come to Z City ahead of time, her ending could be different.
“Luo Luo, little Luo Luo, are you listening?” Luo Yueyue glanced at her phone screen in puzzlement. The call was still connected, after all.
“Yes, I’m listening. I’ll come find you in a couple of days.”
“Really? Luo Luo, you promised? That’s great! Let me know in advance when you come, and I’ll pick you up.” Luo Yueyue was overjoyed when she heard her friend agree to visit.
After hanging up Yueyue’s call, Lin Luo thought it over. Since the car she had ordered and the custom Tang dao were arriving in the next two days, once she picked them up, she would set off to find Yueyue.
