Chapter 5: Superpowers

“Mm… Little Luo Luo, why does my head hurt a bit?” Luo Yueyue woke up and found her whole body weak and sore, with a strange energy wandering inside her.

“Yueyue, you had a high fever all last night and slept for a day and two nights already.”

“Ah? No wonder my whole body feels so strange.”

“Do you feel anything wrong with your body?” Lin Luo looked at her friend with worry, not knowing whether Yueyue had developed a superpower.

Luo Yueyue felt the strange energy in her body. “It’s like… something extra appeared in my body. It feels weird.”

Lin Luo’s face lit up with joy. “Try and see if you can release it from your palm.”

Luo Yueyue carefully sensed it, focusing her mind and releasing the energy toward her palm.

A thin stream of water slowly flowed out from her palm. Luo Yueyue’s face went blank with shock—what the hell was going on?

“Yueyue, you have a superpower! You’re water-type.” Lin Luo shook Yueyue’s arm excitedly.

Luo Yueyue widened her eyes in disbelief. “You mean I really have the superpowers like in novels?”

“Then doesn’t that make me a superwoman? When I go out in the future, I can walk sideways wherever I want.” Luo Yueyue placed her hands on her waist and laughed loudly three times in excitement.

“No, I have to go show off in front of my brother, make him jealous.” With that, she dragged Lin Luo downstairs.

In the living room on the first floor, Xiao Chen and Luo Junze sat on the sofa with grave expressions, discussing the situation outside.

“Brother, brother, look, look, I have a superpower now.” Luo Yueyue proudly showed the stream of water flowing from her finger.

“You mean this?” Xiao Chen’s left hand released a large, spherical ball of purple lightning, crackling with sizzling sounds. Then he tried controlling the fruit knife on the table, making it rise and fall in midair.

As for Luo Junze, what came out of his hand was fire—ordinary flames, not as heaven-defying as Xiao Chen’s.

Luo Yueyue: “……” The clown turned out to be herself.

Lin Luo’s watery eyes stared in envy at the superpowers in Xiao Chen’s hand. As expected of the Male Lead, the author’s beloved son. Other people either had no powers or only one, but he actually had dual abilities, and one of them was even the rare psychic ability. There weren’t many people in the world who possessed that.

Xiao Chen noticed the little girl’s envious look and silently curved his lips into a smile. Taking advantage of the others not paying attention, he leaned close to Lin Luo’s ear with a mischievous grin and whispered.

“You—you stop talking nonsense.” Lin Luo glared at the man, but that single glance brimmed with allure. Heat suddenly surged within Xiao Chen.

Xiao Chen pretended to act aggrieved, teasing the little girl before him. “Is Luo Luo planning to deny what happened after sleeping with me?”

“I never—stop saying nonsense.” Lin Luo wished she could cover his mouth with her hand. She glanced nervously to the side, relieved to see no one noticed their conversation, and finally let out a breath.

“Oh? So Luo Luo isn’t denying it? Or is it that you didn’t sleep with me at all?”

“You… I…” Lin Luo’s face instantly turned crimson. No matter how she listened, something felt wrong, oddly twisted.

Seeing the little girl so shy that her face was about to bury itself into her chest, Xiao Chen ruffled her soft hair, deciding to spare her for now. There was still time—no need to rush.

Soon, Xiao Chen and Luo Junze went out to check the situation, while Lin Luo and Luo Yueyue stayed at home, preparing some food.

“Little Luo Luo, do you think those people outside could be zombies? Could it really be the end of the world?”

Lin Luo gave Yueyue a look, letting her figure it out herself. She finally understood.

For breakfast, they made porridge and steamed buns, using ingredients the servants had bought earlier. Since the situation was unclear, Lin Luo didn’t want to reveal her space too early.

Not long after, Xiao Chen and Luo Junze returned. After they all had breakfast together, Xiao Chen indicated that he needed to go to the Military Base. The outside was dangerous, so before they came back, they were not to go out. They had to lock all doors and windows, and no matter who knocked, they were not to open.

Inside the meeting room at the Military Base, Grandfather Xiao sat at the head seat, his eyes carrying a heavy pressure as he looked at the subordinates seated below.

“Who can tell me what exactly is going on outside right now?”

One of the officers, nervous and fearful, replied: “Chief, those people outside are like madmen. They bite anyone they see.”

“Yes! Even in our military ranks, many have started showing the same condition.”

“What exactly is happening?”

“What should we do?”

“Enough, all of you shut up. The most urgent task now is to draft a proper plan.” Grandfather Xiao’s expression was stern, his sharp gaze sweeping across the crowd. Whoever his eyes landed on quickly lowered their heads in silence.

At that moment, a knock came from the door.

Xiao Chen pushed open the meeting room door and stepped in, then took a seat. Everyone inside turned their eager eyes toward him.

“A type of human has appeared outside—if they can still be called human. Their faces are darkened, their eyes clouded white, and they bite anyone they see. Those bitten quickly turn into the same kind. Shooting the heart doesn’t work; only destroying the head kills them.”

“I suspect this is caused by an unknown virus carried in the heavy fog.”

“Perhaps… the apocalypse has arrived.”

Xiao Chen calmly explained what he knew.

“I think the primary tasks now are to eliminate threats, gather supplies, rescue survivors, and expand outward from the Military Base, establishing a safe zone within a radius of ten kilometers.”

“And there’s also this.” Xiao Chen revealed his lightning ability, a large sphere of purple thunder crackling in his palm, causing an uproar in the meeting room.

“This is a superpower. And this isn’t an isolated case—quite a number of people have awakened abilities.”

Xiao Chen turned toward his grandfather. “We need to quickly compile a registry of all ability users in the Military Base and begin training them. In the future, they may prove extremely useful.”

Grandfather Xiao nodded in satisfaction. As expected of his grandson—quickly coming up with a plan, powerful in strength. The only thing he disapproved of was that Xiao Chen hadn’t found him a granddaughter-in-law yet, or given him a great-grandson to dote on.

He shot his grandson a discontented glare. Stinky brat.

Xiao Chen, inexplicably glared at: “…”

After the meeting, Xiao Chen gathered his squad, explained the situation, and prepared to head out to clear the surrounding villas first.

After a full day of work, Xiao Chen and his team cleared the villas one by one. The situation quickly stabilized. Fortunately, not many people lived in the villa district. Once they gathered the bodies and burned them, the sky had already darkened.
