Chapter 8 – Confession
Xiao Chen looked at Lin Luo, who had remained silent ever since they had entered the small town, and pulled her into his room.
He lifted her to sit on his lap, facing him, and lowered his head to gently ask: “What’s wrong, were you frightened?”
When Lin Luo heard those words filled with concern, the corners of her eyes turned red, and tears instantly welled up, sliding down her cheeks.
“Why are you crying? Don’t be afraid, I will protect you, don’t be scared, alright?” Seeing the girl’s tears made his heart ache.
His calloused fingers brushed away the tears on her face. His lips landed softly on her eyes and forehead, every movement careful and full of tenderness.
Lin Luo thought of the helplessness and uncertainty she had felt since entering the book, of her confusion and fear about the future, and of her uncertainty about her feelings for Xiao Chen. Her heart brimmed with grievance and fear.
She sobbed in hiccups, her nose reddened from crying, while Xiao Chen held her close, coaxing her softly, his eyes filled only with distress.
Lin Luo forced herself to calm down. She was never someone to be overly sentimental. Since her heart had already moved for this man, then she should ask clearly—better than letting herself brood alone.
“Xiao Chen, do… do you like me?”
Xiao Chen looked at the little girl before him, her eyes and nose red like a little rabbit, and he smiled gently.
“Mm, I do. What about Luo Luo, does she like her brother?”
Lin Luo looked at the man’s breathtakingly handsome face, his smile both seductive and enchanting.
Her heart thumped wildly. Did Xiao Chen really like her?
“Are you serious? What if one day you meet a girl who’s very outstanding and capable—will you stop liking me then?”
Lin Luo felt uneasy, uncertainty filling her heart.
Xiao Chen placed Lin Luo’s hand against his chest and said with deep affection: “Luo Luo, I never believed in love at first sight before, but then I met you.”
“Even if the future is filled with countless blossoms, I will still love only you.”
When Lin Luo heard his confession, her heart rippled with sweetness, and she couldn’t stop the corners of her lips from curving upward. But then, as if something came to mind, her mood sank again.
Xiao Chen noticed her drop in spirits and asked: “What’s wrong? Be good, tell your brother.”
“I’m afraid I’ll become a burden to you all. I’m so useless, I don’t even dare to kill a zombie.”
Looking at the girl’s dejected expression, Xiao Chen gave a pampering smile. “Silly girl, how could you be a burden? You are brother’s treasure.”
“Luo Luo only needs to stay obediently by brother’s side. Brother will protect you for a lifetime.”
Lin Luo looked at the man whose brows and eyes were filled with endless tenderness. She reached out to hug him back, quietly savoring this warm moment.
Even if the future held many uncertainties, what did it matter? As long as they were well now, it was enough. She thought she needed to bravely take this step, to believe in Xiao Chen’s sincerity, and to give them both a chance.
“Luo Luo, you still haven’t answered brother’s question.” Xiao Chen reminded the little girl in his arms with mischief.
“Ah? Did you ask me a question?” Lin Luo’s eyes flickered as she dodged the subject.
“Well… I’m tired today. I’ll go back to my room and rest first. Good night.”
After saying that, she tried to escape from Xiao Chen’s embrace.
Xiao Chen looked at the little rabbit trying to flee, and suddenly reached out to trap her against him. Then his lips pressed down on hers.
Lin Luo was kissed until her whole body went weak, her face flushed red, and she gradually felt like she couldn’t breathe.
She pushed at the man beside her, but he didn’t budge—instead, he kissed her even more deeply, as if he wanted to swallow her whole.
When the kiss finally ended, Lin Luo gasped for air, breathing heavily.
Lin Luo’s lips were reddened and swollen from his kisses, her eyes brimming with liquid light, shimmering with spring-like allure.
Xiao Chen couldn’t resist and kissed her again.
By the time he was done, Lin Luo had already gone limp against him.
She pounded weakly against the man’s chest—it was so hard that her hand hurt.
“Xiao Chen, you’re bad.”
“Be good, call me brother.”
“No.” She felt far too embarrassed to say it.
“Really won’t call me? Hm?” With a swift movement, Lin Luo was pinned beneath Xiao Chen.
His kisses trailed from her neck downward.
“Xiao Chen, don’t.” Lin Luo’s voice trembled, her whole body tingling, as if currents of electricity were running through her.
“Call me brother and I’ll let you go.”
The girl’s body was soft and fragrant, and heat surged through Xiao Chen, his control beginning to slip.
Lin Luo felt a strange new sensation rising within her body, and she tried to stop him in fear.
“Brother, don’t…” Her voice came out soft and sweet, tinged with an unconscious charm.
The moment Xiao Chen heard that bewitching “brother.” the string of reason inside him snapped completely.
That night was one of burning passion. Lin Luo felt as if she were being consumed by fire, her whole body clinging helplessly beneath Xiao Chen, swept away by the tide.
…
In the early morning, Lin Luo was awakened by a kiss, feeling herself held tightly in his arms, the kiss growing deeper and deeper.
When Xiao Chen finally released her, it took Lin Luo a long while to regain her senses.
Memories of the previous night rushed into her mind, and her face instantly flushed scarlet, overwhelmed with shame.
Last night, apart from the very final step, everything that should and shouldn’t have been done had been done.
Lin Luo glared at the man whose face bore the look of full satisfaction, her eyes brimming with sultry resentment.
Xiao Chen’s gaze darkened, a red tint spreading through his eyes. “Don’t look at brother like that, otherwise…”
If not for the wrong time and place, he truly wanted to devour her again.
Seeing the desire clouding his eyes, Lin Luo shrank back nervously in his embrace.
Xiao Chen pressed a kiss to her forehead, then carried her off to wash up.
When Xiao Chen and Lin Luo descended to the first floor hand in hand, breakfast was already laid out.
Xiao Chen pulled Lin Luo down to sit beside him. The others widened their eyes at the sight.
Chen Tong was the first to break the silence. “Boss, what’s going on with you two?”
The others all stared at them, their faces brimming with curiosity.
Xiao Chen turned his head, smiling as he glanced at the girl who was lowering her head in embarrassment. “Call her sister-in-law.”
The group immediately erupted in an uproar. The boss was truly formidable—so fast he’d already found them a sister-in-law.
“Sister-in-law, from now on you have to look after me!”
“And me, don’t forget me!”
“Sister-in-law, do you need a leg pendant?”
“Sister-in-law…”
…
Listening to all the teasing voices, Lin Luo’s face turned crimson, and she reached out to pinch the man at her side.
With a grin, Xiao Chen clasped her hand into his palm, giving her fingers a soothing squeeze.
“Alright, finish eating quickly so we can set out.” If these brats kept talking any longer, his waist would suffer for it.
