Chapter 9 – Confession

After breakfast, they worked together to stuff the supplies collected last night into the trunks of the two off-road vehicles until they were filled to the brim.

But there was still not enough space. More than half of the supplies remained. Everyone looked worriedly at the pile on the ground. If they really could not take them, then they could only leave them here for now and send people back later from the base to bring them back.

Lin Luo looked at their troubled expressions. Her space, however, could fit them all.

After spending the past few days together, she also felt that the people in this team were all very good. The atmosphere was harmonious, and their strength was formidable. She had already regarded them as her friends.

Most importantly, since she and Xiao Chen had already made their feelings for each other clear, she should try to trust him, trust that he would protect her and walk by her side all the way forward.

She turned her head and looked at the man who had been holding her hand. He also gazed back at her with gentle eyes. Lin Luo let out a relieved smile, wiggled her hand in his palm, signaling him to let go.

She then walked to the pile of supplies, placed her hand on it, and collected everything into her space.

Everyone was shocked by this magical scene.

“Sister-in-law, is this magic?” Wang Ming asked with his eyes wide open.

“I know, I know! In novels, this is called a space ability.” Sun Xiang said excitedly.

“Sister-in-law’s ability is just too awesome. From now on, when we collect supplies, just one wave of her hand and it’s done.” Chen Tong looked at Lin Luo with admiration all over his face.

Wei Long gave a simple and honest smile, raising a thumbs-up to Lin Luo.

Luo Junze quietly looked at Lin Luo, his eyes filled with admiration and a faint trace of loneliness that no one could detect.

Luo Yueyue was the most excited one. She grabbed Lin Luo’s hand and shook it vigorously. “Little Luo Luo, you’ve awakened an ability! That’s great. From now on, I’ll handle killing zombies, and you’ll handle collecting supplies, haha…”

Just the thought of it already made her feel excited—why was that?

Xiao Chen had gone from initial surprise to watching the little girl surrounded by everyone. His face darkened. He walked over, wrapped an arm around Lin Luo’s waist in a gesture of possession, and declared: “You all seem to be very free?”

Seeing their boss act so domineering, everyone quickly found excuses to slip away.

“Well, uh, I’ll go check the car.”

“I suddenly feel like going to the toilet.”

“I’ll go too, I’ll go too.”

“Damn, you even have to follow me to the toilet? You pervert.”

“Get lost.”

Xiao Chen looked seriously at the little girl in his arms, then chuckled softly. “Luo Luo is truly amazing.”

Lin Luo saw her own reflection in Xiao Chen’s eyes, as if his eyes could only hold her alone.

Embarrassed, she buried her head into his chest, breathing in the cool fragrance on him, and for some reason, she felt an unprecedented sense of peace.

The car continued toward H City. This time there were only three people inside. Poor Wang Ming, who had lost in rock-paper-scissors, sat in the front driving. Unwilling but with no choice, he had to share a car with his boss.

While passing through a city district, they suddenly saw three men and two women fleeing for their lives, chased by a horde of zombies. Among them, a middle-aged man tried to use his fire ability to burn the zombies, but unfortunately, the flame he produced was no stronger than that of a lighter, completely useless.

Another man, tall and thin, at least had considerable strength. Wielding a baseball bat, he barely managed to fend off the zombies closing in.

The other three stayed close to them, waving wooden sticks wildly to force back the approaching zombies.

The five gradually began to lose stamina, despair creeping onto their faces.

Among them was a woman who looked frail and delicate. Even though her face was covered in dirt, it could not hide her refined beauty. She was about to be bitten by a zombie when she suddenly saw two military off-road vehicles approaching ahead. In that instant, hope filled her heart. She burst forth with a sudden surge of strength, running toward the cars at an astonishing speed.

The other four, upon seeing the vehicles, also rushed forward, attempting to seek help.

The vehicles were forced to stop. Lin Luo saw that beautiful-faced woman frantically banging on the car window, her expression pitiful and pleading for help.

Xiao Chen frowned slightly as he observed the situation outside. Seeing that the vehicles were about to be surrounded by zombies, he decisively got out of the car and ordered everyone to prepare for battle.

Lin Luo was left inside, with Wang Ming staying behind to protect her.

Xiao Chen and the others coordinated seamlessly, their abilities overwhelming the zombies in waves. Just as the situation was gradually coming under control—

Suddenly, a zombie with terrifying speed lunged from the side straight at Chen Tong. Shock froze his body stiff, and he forgot to resist. The gaping bloody maw was about to clamp down on him.

Lin Luo was so tense that she almost stopped breathing. She quickly opened the car door and rushed out.

Wang Ming saw Lin Luo running and immediately flung open the door to follow.

Before they could reach, Xiao Chen released a bolt of lightning at the zombie. The creature fell instantly, its entire body charred black.

Lin Luo finally relaxed, letting out a slow breath of relief. She and Wang Ming hurried over to Xiao Chen’s side.

When Chen Tong regained his senses, he almost collapsed to the ground, his face pale with lingering fear. “Holy shit, that scared me to death. I thought I was done for. Thank goodness boss was here.”

“This zombie seems different from the others. Its speed was very fast.” Luo Junze said.

“Zombies might be evolving.” Xiao Chen said gravely.

Hearing this, everyone’s expressions darkened. If zombies evolved, then humanity’s survival would only become even harder.

Lin Luo stared curiously at the zombie. According to the books, evolved zombies were said to have crystal cores in their heads. She wondered if this one had one.

She tugged on Xiao Chen’s hand, signaling for him to stab the zombie’s head with a dagger.

Xiao Chen looked helplessly at the urging little woman. Although he did not understand her intentions, he still did as she asked.

He squatted down, expressionless, and stabbed the dagger in, stirring it around. He felt something hard, and when he lifted it out, he discovered a transparent, crystal-like object.

Lin Luo took out a bottle of mineral water, rinsed the crystal core clean, and curiously held it in her hand to examine it.
