The Peasant Wife Has a Space Chapter 54

Chapter 54: The Jiang Family (Part 1)

The ones surrounded were a little girl around four years old and a little boy around six years old.

The little girl cried out, “Wuwuwu… Give my steamed bun back to me… Why are you taking my things!”

The little boy also had red eyes as he said, “That’s right, give it back to us. What you’re doing is robbery.”

But the children who were taking things showed no fear, “You are the children of landlords, so you shouldn’t be given food!”

“Yeah, you don’t deserve to eat!”

“We not only have to take their things, but also beat them!”

Zhao Xiulan, seeing from a distance, knew what was going on.

According to her memories, these two children seemed to be the grandchildren of the Jiang family.

The girl was called Jiang Xiaoya, and the boy was called Jiang Tiedan. The Jiang family used to be prominent landlords in this area, with considerable wealth. However, after the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the landlords were overthrown, and the Jiang family declined. Now, only Grandpa Jiang and Grandma Jiang remained, along with their two grandchildren.

The Jiang family’s son died early, his wife ran away, and their daughter married elsewhere and hadn’t returned for many years. For a while, the once wealthy Jiang family fell into decline and hardship.

Due to their bad background, the Jiang family not only couldn’t live as well as before, but they were also discriminated against by the people in the production team. They did the dirtiest and most tiring work, and they couldn’t live in the same place as the others in the village. They lived outside the village in two small shabby houses, next to the pigsty and cowshed, where the village kept their livestock.

Being around animals all day, the environment was naturally dirty and chaotic.

Especially near the pigsty, there was a strong stench that was unbearable for people to stay around for a long time.

Even so, the Jiang family didn’t dare to say anything. Grandpa Jiang and Grandma Jiang were sensible and knew that under the current circumstances, they had to endure and survive. It didn’t matter how difficult life was; survival was more important than anything else.

Some residual information in Zhao Xiulan’s mind made her feel some sympathy for the Jiang family. Now seeing the Jiang family’s two children being bullied, she couldn’t just stand by and do nothing.

Just as Zhao Xiulan was about to walk over to stop them, the bullies quickly ran away after punching Jiang Xiaoya and Jiang Tiedan.

Jiang Xiaoya sat on the side of the field, crying loudly.

It wasn’t because it hurt, but because her steamed bun was taken away.

With the Jiang family’s situation, there wasn’t much food to eat. Grandpa Jiang and Grandma Jiang were old and could only manage to feed the livestock. Unfortunately, they couldn’t get much grain in a year.

Jiang Xiaoya and Jiang Tiedan only received a steamed bun at noon for doing some work. Having it taken away meant they had nothing to eat and would go hungry.

Seeing her sister crying, Jiang Tiedan quickly comforted her, “Don’t cry, sister, I’ll get it back for you.”

Jiang Tiedan’s eyes turned red as he spoke, feeling resentful that their steamed bun was taken away, especially seeing his sister being wronged.

Jiang Xiaoya shook her head, “Brother, don’t bother. We can’t beat them, and we might get beaten up!”

“But you haven’t eaten, and you’ll be hungry,” Jiang Tiedan clenched his fists, feeling angry and distressed as he spoke to Jiang Xiaoya.

“Wuwuwu… Brother, let’s not eat at noon. We’ll endure it,” Jiang Xiaoya said, wiping away the tears from her eyes.

Zhao Xiulan sighed. These two children from the Jiang family were also pitiful, often bullied in the village, without even the ability to resist.
