The affair between Wu Youshan and Sun Ying spread throughout the entire textile factory in an instant. Sun Ying had an affair with Wu Youshan before her marriage and even married someone else. After her husband found out, they divorced. 

Despite this, the two shamelessly ended up together again at the textile factory in Yuan City. As Jiang Nian walked out of the textile factory, she could still hear the workers discussing Sun Ying and Wu Youshan.

Sun Yuan said, “I’ll go check on my younger sister.”

Gu Shizhou looked at Jiang Nian and nodded. “Younger sister-in-law.”

Jiang Nian smiled slightly. “Political Commissar Gu.”

Lu Yu got up and brought Jiang Nian to sit beside him. He lowered his eyes and looked at Jiang Nian’s trembling eyelashes. His hand held hers under the table. “Are you hungry?”

He didn’t ask about the recent incident at the textile factory; it seemed he already knew all about it.

Jiang Nian’s heart skipped a beat. Thinking of Sun Yuan saying she found out about Sun Ying being here through a phone call, could it be Lu Yu who called Sun Yuan?

Ge Mei said, “Everything is resolved now. Jiang Nian is fine.”

Lu Yu nodded. “Hmm.”

Gu Shizhou looked at Jiang Nian. “Younger sister-in-law, what would you and Director Ge like to eat?”

Jiang Nian said, “Anything is fine.”

It was Gu Shizhou who ordered the dishes in the end. Jiang Nian knew that she was able to return smoothly from the police station last night, probably because Gu Shizhou contacted Secretary Zhu. Otherwise, how could Wang Wei have coincidentally rushed over?

No one mentioned what had just happened at the dinner table, as if the incident had never occurred.

After finishing lunch, Ge Mei returned to the embroidery shop first. When she left, she said to Jiang Nian, “You can have half a day off.”

Jiang Nian smiled and said, “Thank you, Sister Ge.”

Gu Shizhou must have felt warm. He didn’t wear his military coat and instead draped it over his arm. He wore a black turtleneck sweater. He said to Lu Yu, “I’m going to see an old friend. I’ll wait for you at the Red Star Hotel later.”

Lu Yu nodded and walked with Jiang Nian along the street.

When only the two of them were left, Jiang Nian asked quietly, “Did you call Sun Yuan?”

Lu Yu lowered his eyes and looked at Jiang Nian. A hint of amusement appeared in his cold and stern eyes. “Hmm.”

The man was tall, so Jiang Nian had to raise her head to look at him. After hearing this, she was somewhat surprised. “When did you call?”

It would take several hours by train from Sun Yuan’s place to Yuan City. Unless Lu Yu had called last night, Sun Yuan wouldn’t have been able to make it.

Lu Yu said, “I called her right after I received Ge Mei’s call last night.”

She was momentarily stunned but then reacted. She asked in confusion, “How do you know the phone number of Sun Yuan’s workplace?”

Jiang Nian looked down and saw that Lu Yu had put a watch on her wrist. The watch had a smooth and cool silver-white texture with a slim design. The hands inside pointed exactly at 12:15 noon. She blinked and looked up at Lu Yu. He lowered his eyes to fasten the watch on her wrist, his thin lips slightly pursed, a hint of a smile visible at the corners of his lips.

“Do you like it?”

Lu Yu lifted his eyelids slightly, smiling at Jiang Nian.

Jiang Nian lifted her wrist and looked at it. The slim watch strap wrapped around her wrist had a beautiful silver-white texture that wasn’t tacky. Although it couldn’t compare to the watch styles of the new century, it was the most precious gift for her at the moment.

It was given to her by Lu Yu.

Jiang Nian raised her head, a smile on her small face. “I like it,” she said.

Her smile revealed her white teeth. Her lips were rosy and moist. As she spoke, her delicate tongue occasionally touched her teeth. Lu Yu’s eyes darkened slightly. His Adam’s apple bobbed uncontrollably. He reached out and held Jiang Nian’s hand, leading her to the department store.

Walking beside him, Jiang Nian looked at Lu Yu with bright eyes. “What are we going there for?” she asked.

Lu Yu replied, “To buy you clothes to wear for the wedding.”

For the first time in her life, Jiang Nian was choosing clothes to wear on her wedding day. She had originally planned to make them herself, but time didn’t allow, so she had to buy ready-made ones. In the end, she chose a red blouse and coat that she was quite satisfied with. She planned to alter the clothes when she got home.

They also bought pants and shoes after looking around.

Lu Yu carried the things while Jiang Nian asked in a low voice, “What about yours?”

The man chuckled softly. “I’ll wear my military uniform.”

They spent the afternoon together, watched a movie, and when they came out, it was getting dark. Jiang Nian had been walking all afternoon, and her feet were a bit sore. Lu Yu squatted in front of Jiang Nian with a pile of things in one hand. “Let me carry you back,” he said.
