The Pretty Military Wife of the ’70s: Emptying the Enemy’s Vault with Her Dimensional Space Chapter 25

Chapter 25 – This Man Seems… a Little Mysteriously Reserved!

Xia Wanwan glanced at the time—it was almost noon. They had said they would drop her off at midday, so she might as well do it herself.

“Qingzhu, I’ll take you back!”

“Mm-hmm~”

The two of them held hands and headed toward the sleeper workshop. Huang Yulong, coming out to fetch water, happened to see them. If Qingzhu hadn’t been with her, he wouldn’t have recognized her at all.

Last night, in the dark, he hadn’t seen her clearly—but today, he could see everything.

This girl was beautiful, with fair skin, delicate features, bright eyes and eyebrows—a lucky-looking person by appearance.

Yet such a gentle little girl was the one who had quickly gotten on the car to follow someone last night?

If he hadn’t seen it with his own eyes, he wouldn’t have believed it for anything. It seemed his boss really had good taste.

He had wanted to call out, but considering she was a young girl, he didn’t want to embarrass her and risk his boss being upset with him.

Xia Wanwan, familiar with the way, went straight to the sleeper room, but no one was there.

For a moment, she felt embarrassed to leave immediately. If she lost the kid, it would be bad, so she had no choice but to wait.

Huang Yulong was perceptive and went straight to the room where he was staying, then notified the boss.

“Boss, sister-in-law is here.”

Inside the room, everyone immediately perked up their ears. They hadn’t expected the boss to actually go home looking for his wife—and to find a wife who was so skilled.

The light had been too dim last night, but they knew she was a beauty. Now that they heard she had arrived, they wanted to “accidentally” meet her and see what she really looked like—someone who could captivate the boss’s heart.

The moment Lu Tingxiao heard Xia Wanwan had arrived, he tossed the documents in his hand and strode out decisively.

The others in the room stared at each other in surprise, then someone asked, “Captain Huang, did you see sister-in-law? What does she look like?”

“Top-notch! Stunning!”

“Holy! Boss is so lucky? He found such a perfect girl!”

“No kidding. Looks like our boss is finally realizing things.”

Huang Yulong, hearing the gossip, was thrilled. “Guess what I saw this morning in the sleeper?”

“What?” Several pairs of eyes fixed on Huang Yulong, eager for the juicy details.

“Our boss doesn’t eat sweets, right?” Huang Yulong smiled mysteriously.

“Yeah, everyone in the team knows he doesn’t eat sweets. So?”

“Hehe, I thought the same, but today, when I went over to deliver buns and pickles, I saw the boss eating jujube cake!”

“Do you know who gave it to him? Sister-in-law!” Huang Yulong said proudly. He was shocked too—meeting someone he liked must really make him change!

“No way… so heartless?”

“Eating sweets only if sister-in-law gives it… the boss has no principles!”

“Ah, kid, you don’t understand. You’ll get it when you have a wife.” One of them said, grinning.

Everyone was excited by this discovery. Getting first-hand gossip like this—how could they not be thrilled? Once back at the base, they would definitely tell the others.

“Here she comes.”

Lu Tingxiao might not even have realized it, but his steps were large and hurried as he approached.

“Mm, are you still busy?”

“No, let’s eat lunch here,” he asked tentatively, afraid of being refused.

Before Xia Wanwan could refuse, Qingzhu pulled her, “Sister, let’s eat here. Brother brought lots of good food. We want to treat you, okay?”

Lu Tingxiao looked at Qingzhu with an expression of satisfaction—this little kid was only useful at this moment.

Xia Wanwan’s refusal caught in her throat, and she silently nodded.

She then saw Lu Tingxiao take many things out of his backpack, even malted milk powder.

He didn’t speak, just grabbed his lunchbox and went to get hot water.

His grandfather had insisted on bringing it, saying it was for the kid to drink—never expected it would come in handy now.

Girls were delicate. If it were just buns and pickles, water would have been enough. But he didn’t hesitate and quickly prepared a big bowl of malted milk powder.

On the way back, he saw a few heads at the workshop door. One sharp glance, and the heads disappeared instantly.

Huang Yulong clutched his chest in fear—boss’s glare could devour a person.

The others in the room weren’t much better, all feeling nervous. This gossip wasn’t worth risking their lives over.

Pushing open the sleeper door, Xia Wanwan saw everything prepared. Lu Tingxiao’s aura relaxed slightly, pouring her a cup of malted milk powder: “Eat whatever you want.”

Xia Wanwan didn’t feel awkward seeing the malted milk—just reminded her of what happened this morning…

She wondered if the man was deliberately watching her, but seeing the feast, she didn’t care: roast chicken, beef, buns, and pancakes.

She didn’t hold back, rolled beef in a pancake, and even gave the little one a chicken leg. Lu Tingxiao’s gaze softened unconsciously.

“Shall I see you off later?”

“No need. Someone’s coming. If we ride your car, people might think we’re acting high and mighty.”

Lu Tingxiao didn’t speak further, took out his notebook, scribbled a series of numbers, and handed it to Xia Wanwan.

“This is my direct line. Call if anything happens.”

“Okay, thank you.”

She accepted the number. Being a military officer, having this contact could be useful, especially in a place where she knew no one.

Lu Tingxiao watched her take the number, feeling reasonably pleased. After they finished eating, Xia Wanwan prepared to leave.

Qingzhu knew they didn’t know when they would see sister again, but they agreed that Xia Wanwan would definitely visit whenever she could.

“Sister, you must remember to come see Qingzhu!”

“Mm!”

“Thanks for your hospitality, Comrade Lu. I’ll leave now, see you another day.”

Xia Wanwan had eaten well. Cold as he seemed, the food he brought was substantial, all meat, and delicious.

“Mm.”

Lu Tingxiao’s tone was calm, unreadable, silently watching Xia Wanwan leave.

After a few steps, Xia Wanwan felt eyes on her. Instinctively, she turned and saw a few heads, who immediately turned away upon seeing her.

She guessed it was the same group from last night. Smiling lightly, she went on without care.

Huang Yulong’s heart nearly exploded. Looking at the brothers behind him, he said, “I wasn’t lying, right?”

“Not lying~ She really is beautiful!”

“What beautiful?”

A cold voice from behind them cut in—Lu Tingxiao…

Interesting story. I’ve read a few very similar, but I like the FL & ML and the addition of a close sisterly bond with a cute kid tagging along.
