After being inexplicably signed up for the square dance competition, Tan Yixuan was so angry that she ignored Wang Sasa for an entire week. Even when they had to interact for schoolwork or assignments, Tan Yixuan responded to Wang Sasa with cold and curt words.
Wang Sasa, however, was used to this and remained unfazed. Every night, she showed up at Tan Yixuan’s house on time, dragging her out to practice square dancing under the guise of “physical exercise.”
Perhaps it was because the melody of “Two Butterflies” was so catchy that, during her midday breaks, Wang Sasa would unconsciously hum, “My dear, fly slowly~.”
Tan Yixuan, busy doing her homework, would frown and shoot an angry glare at her.
Noticing Tan Yixuan’s disapproving gaze, Wang Sasa felt a twinge of guilt, though she didn’t let it show on her face. She feigned helplessness and shrugged, “Don’t you think this song is really nice?” And before Tan Yixuan could respond, she nodded to herself and added, “As the saying goes, when something is extremely vulgar, it becomes elegant. I think it’s pretty good.”
Tan Yixuan was speechless.
What else could Tan Yixuan do? Even if she told Wang Sasa to shut up, the girl would remain her usual self. She could only endure it.
Fortunately, something else soon captured Wang Sasa’s attention. As soon as class ended, four of her lackeys excitedly gathered around her, saying, “Boss, boss, the results of the monthly exams are out!”
The corners of Wang Sasa’s lips unconsciously lifted into a confident smile. “I must be in first place, right?”
The four lackeys exchanged uncertain glances. They hadn’t expected their boss to be so optimistic, outright assuming she had secured the top spot. The words they were about to say were swallowed back, and after a moment’s hesitation, one of them cautiously said under her expectant gaze, “Well, even though it’s not first place, you still managed to come in third in the whole grade!”
Wang Sasa froze. *Just* third place? She massaged her forehead, trying to comfort herself. The difference in total scores between the top three usually wasn’t much—maybe just one or two points.
However, the gap between first and third place, despite only being two positions, left vastly different impressions on people. After all, people only remember the champion, not the runner-up, and even less the third-place finisher.
Feeling disappointed, Wang Sasa didn’t acknowledge her lackeys, who were still celebrating. To her, if it wasn’t first place, there was nothing to celebrate. Suddenly, she remembered an earlier agreement she’d made with someone. Standing up, she walked over to Han Zhiyuan and, looking down at him, she then declared, “You lost.”
Han Zhiyuan was scrolling through his phone when he heard the comment and looked confused. “Lost what?” After speaking, he vaguely recalled the agreement he had with Wang Sasa and couldn’t help but retort, “The total scores aren’t even out yet. How could I have lost?”
Wang Sasa replied, “The rankings are already posted on the bulletin board. I’m third in the year.” She paused and then added, “You don’t actually think you could be in the top two, do you?”
Han Zhiyuan gave her a look that screamed, “Are you kidding me?”
Wang Sasa shrugged. “If you don’t believe me, go check for yourself.”
A gust of wind swept by as Han Zhiyuan bolted out of the classroom. Soon after, students who had rushed to see the results trickled back. The students of Class 6, Grade 12, spent the entire day in a daze, unable to believe that the once notorious delinquent Wang Sasa had suddenly transformed into an academic genius.
Most of the students trusted the monthly exam results. After all, if Wang Sasa had cheated, there would have been some obvious clues. Some even took the risk of asking her tricky questions, trying to catch her out, only to be surprised when she was willing and able to answer them clearly, with straightforward and easily understood explanations. It left them with no choice but to believe her.
Everyone had noticed the changes in her over the past month. Seeing her name on the rankings today was shocking, but eventually, the students of Class 6 came to accept it.
When Han Zhiyuan stumbled back into the classroom, looking disbelieving, Wang Sasa couldn’t help but smirk. “You’re that surprised?”
Han Zhiyuan studied her as though she were some rare specimen. He knew her well enough to realize that the rumors going around about her being a secret genius hiding her true capabilities were nonsense. What was she hiding? She had clearly spent most of her time chasing after Wei Qi, leaving little time for studying… Wait.
Suddenly, Han Zhiyuan remembered that she hadn’t been pestering Wei Qi in a long time, and his mouth dropped open slightly. Could it be that her heartbreak had been so severe that it opened her mind to academics? But no matter how he looked at her, she just didn’t seem like a genius.
Seeing Han Zhiyuan suddenly clutch his head with a pained expression, Wang Sasa raised an eyebrow. “What’s the matter? You don’t want to follow through on our agreement?”
Recalling their previous bet, Han Zhiyuan hesitated for a moment. Then, to Wang Sasa’s surprise, his attitude did a complete 180. His expression changed several times before finally settling into determination. He suddenly bowed deeply and declared loudly, “Boss! From now on, I’m following you!”
Wang Sasa: “……?”
This development wasn’t right.
Han Zhiyuan was feeling the pressure of his studies. After all, his family wasn’t particularly well-off, and with his current grades, getting into a top university seemed impossible. If Wang Sasa could turn things around and achieve such an incredible transformation in just one month, maybe she could help a struggling student like him too?
Wang Sasa had no idea Han Zhiyuan’s imagination was running wild. She simply assumed he was captivated by her charisma and casually waved him off. “Alright, I got it. Stay behind after school; I have something to discuss with you.”
Returning to her seat, Wang Sasa opened her textbook, only to hear an unexpected comment from beside her. “When did you two get so close?”
Wang Sasa turned around to see Tan Yixuan staring down at her book, not even glancing her way. Smiling, Wang Sasa asked, “Are you that interested in my friendships?” The smile on her face grew, revealing a perfect grin. “Don’t worry, you’re still my best friend.”
Wang Sasa silently added in her mind, *Not that I know anyone else here but you.*
Tan Yixuan felt a slight stir in her heart. Her peripheral vision caught a glimpse of Wang Sasa, who had already turned her attention back to her studies.
During class, the homeroom teacher made a special point of praising Wang Sasa in front of the entire class. Nearly every teacher who came to class before starting the lesson couldn’t help but commend her. Faced with the astonished and admiring gazes of her classmates, Wang Sasa remained calm and collected, accepting the attention gracefully.
When the class ended, Wang Sasa’s desk was surrounded by people. Though she had only placed third, it was a breakthrough moment. Just last semester, she had been known as the school’s infamous bully and slacker. Yet in such a short time, she had transformed into a top student!
What surprised everyone more than her improved grades was the realization that Wang Sasa wasn’t as unpleasant as she used to be. Stripped of her arrogant attitude, everyone noticed that she was actually very attractive.
With brows like distant mountains and skin as smooth as peach blossoms, her smile was gentle and kind. Her every move carried a natural charm that left people in awe. During class, subtle glances were cast in her direction, and once the lesson ended, some couldn’t resist approaching her.
One boy approached her with his workbook, and Wang Sasa accepted it without hesitation. After explaining the problem, she looked up at him with a faint smile and asked, “Did you get it?”
The boy’s face flushed, and he stammered while staring at her, “Y-yeah, I got it…”
Wang Sasa smiled even more brightly, regaining some of the attention she had once been accustomed to. “Good, go back to your seat. Class is about to start.”
The boy returned to his seat in a daze, while Wang Sasa pulled back her gaze, thinking to herself, *So stupid—can’t even solve a simple problem…* But since she considered herself a benevolent person, and it made it easier to get closer to Tan Yixuan, she tolerated it and worked on maintaining her image.
Tan Yixuan glanced at her and remarked nonchalantly, “You seem to be enjoying all this attention.”
Wang Sasa tilted her head slightly, confused. “What do you mean?”
Tan Yixuan pursed her lips. “When did you become so patient? You’re indulging everyone who comes up to you.” She fell silent after saying that. After all, she and Wang Sasa were barely more than strangers… No, their relationship before had been worse than that.
“No need to answer,” Tan Yixuan added at last.
Wang Sasa was quiet for a moment before suddenly grinning. She hooked her arm around Tan Yixuan’s and whispered in her ear, “Tan Yixuan, are you jealous?”
Warm breath brushed against her sensitive earlobe, causing Tan Yixuan’s cheeks to instantly flush. She quickly pushed Wang Sasa away and glared at her. “What nonsense are you talking about?”
Wang Sasa smiled brightly, “Don’t worry. Like I said, you’re my best friend.” She grabbed Tan Yixuan’s hand solemnly. “After all, we still have that square dance competition to do together!”
Tan Yixuan had nearly forgotten about it until Wang Sasa mentioned it. Remembering the embarrassing competition, her face stiffened, and suddenly, she wasn’t in the mood to engage with Wang Sasa anymore.
After class, Wang Sasa called Han Zhiyuan over and told him to gather a few of his off-campus lackeys to keep an eye on Tan Yixuan’s grandmother. Tan Yixuan’s grandmother was her emotional anchor, and as long as nothing happened to her, Tan Yixuan wouldn’t fall into darkness. Wang Sasa needed to ensure the grandmother’s safety. After giving her instructions, she dismissed Han Zhiyuan.
As Wang Sasa was about to leave herself, she suddenly heard a girl crying from the small park nearby.
She frowned and looked over, spotting Wei Qi standing next to Yu Xiaowen, looking visibly irritated.
Recently, Wei Qi and Yu Xiaowen hadn’t been showing up together as often, so Wang Sasa hadn’t paid them much attention. The last bit of gossip she remembered about them was from Wei Qi’s birthday party when Yu Xiaowen had been scolded by Wei Qi’s mother.
In the original storyline, Yu Xiaowen didn’t attend Wei Qi’s birthday party and therefore wasn’t dissed by his mother. But now, with Wang Sasa’s interference, things had changed, and Yu Xiaowen seemed to be on the verge of exiting the scene early.
This past week, Wei Qi had consoled Yu Xiaowen several times because of his mother. With Wei Qi’s mom nagging him every few days and Yu Xiaowen constantly crying, Wei Qi was growing increasingly impatient.
Wei Qi wasn’t the most patient person, and his feelings for Yu Xiaowen were lukewarm at best. He was considering breaking up with her.
But for Yu Xiaowen, that would be a huge humiliation. It hadn’t even been a month—she hadn’t even lasted three months! How could she swallow such an insult? After realizing that crying wasn’t working, Yu Xiaowen pitifully asked, “Is it because of Wang Shasha? Are you breaking up with me because of her?”
Wang Sasa?
For a brief moment, Wei Qi was dazed. Wang Sasa hadn’t been bothering him lately and wasn’t even answering his calls, which was something Wei Qi found unsettling. Her face popped into his mind, but he quickly denied it. “Do you think that’s possible? If I was interested in her, I would’ve been with her a long time ago.”
Yu Xiaowen wiped her tears and pressed on, “Then is it because of Tan Yixuan?”
Wei Qi did indeed have his sights set on Tan Yixuan as his next girlfriend, so he nodded indifferently.
Initially, Wang Sasa had no intention of getting involved in their drama, but when she realized Wei Qi was planning to pursue Tan Yixuan, she became furious. She had worked so hard to gain Tan Yixuan’s favor—there was no way she would let him ruin it!
Wang Sasa cleared her throat, catching their attention. Before either of them could say anything, she spoke first, “Why do I see you two everywhere? Can’t shake you off, can I?”
Both of them flinched in shock and turned around to see Wang Sasa, their expressions uncertain.
Yu Xiaowen bit her lip and whispered, “Shasha, senior…”
Wang Sasa ignored her.
Wei Qi, knowing his childhood friend had changed a lot, looked at her with a complicated expression. “Shasha…”
Wang Sasa had no patience for their nonsense. She quickly walked up to Wei Qi, lifted her chin slightly, and said, “Wei Qi, I’m warning you, stay away from Tan Yixuan. I swear it on my reputation as the school… school bully!”
Tan Yixuan had just walked over and was stunned when she heard Wang Sasa’s bold declaration. Why was Wang Sasa so concerned about Wei Qi pursuing her?
