Chapter 4.1

The next morning, Jiang Rou woke up, and it was already bright outside.

She lay in bed for a while, and then she slowly realized that there was one less person in bed.

She got up and left the bed, thinking that the person might have left. However, when she stepped out of the room, she couldn’t help but be surprised when she smelled the aroma of food coming from the kitchen at the back.

Jiang Rou took a towel and entered the kitchen. The food was ready, and the stir-fried dishes were placed on the lid of the pot, with a bamboo-woven cover covering it to prevent flies.

However, she didn’t see Li Xiao.

Jiang Rou walked to the small table in the corner of the kitchen. On it were a basin for washing the face and a toothbrush with toothpaste. She squeezed half of the toothpaste onto her toothbrush, took a somewhat old ceramic basin, skillfully filled it with water, and carried it outside to the yard for washing up.

In the corner of the yard’s west wall was a small drain with a hole where unused dirty water could be poured.

Just as Jiang Rou stepped out of the gate, she saw a man washing clothes by the well, and she paused.

Li Xiao turned his back to her, his arms bare, and he was only wearing camouflage pants. His sturdy and handsome back, the well-defined, slender waist, and the wheat-colored skin reflected a healthy and attractive charm in the sunlight.

Jiang Rou couldn’t help but take a few more glances. It wasn’t that she was lecherous. She also saw her father and brother, who were half-naked in the summer. Her father, with a beer belly resembling that of a pregnant woman, wasn’t worth mentioning. Her brother, on the other hand, was a typical skinny, pale figure, completely unlike a man.

It had to be said that Li Xiao, whether in terms of face or body, was exceptional.

She wondered if her gaze was too intense. Suddenly, Li Xiao, bending over to wring out clothes, turned his head, his long hair tied in half from the back. Stray strands of hair fell in disarray, revealing a pretty forehead with a beauty mark. He had a cigarette in his mouth but wasn’t smoking.

He gave a casual glance at her before turning his head away.

However, Jiang Rou noticed that he was holding the clothes she had taken off last night.

It has to be said that Li Xiao broke her inherent impression of him.

Li Xiao was the first case she encountered, and even though she had some thoughts about changing careers initially, she didn’t dare to be careless during the internship. She knew his information like the back of her hand, if not memorizing it, at least familiarizing herself with it.

From those records, she recognized a man who was bold yet meticulous, cunning and ruthless yet doting on his daughter.

Although he dropped out of school early, he once attended the best high school in his area and still ranked first.

He had dealt with all sorts of people, from thugs to police. He learned various skills and even mastered excellent anti-detection skills, evading capture for thirteen years.

But he is also a very good father; what other children had, his daughter would also have.

In the thick stack of information, Jiang Rou saw several essays with a childish tone, documenting a tender and good father in the eyes of the little girl. Her father would make a unique little horse made of wood for her; climb mountains in the middle of the night with her on his back just because she said she wanted to see the sunrise; secretly learn to braid, making many beautiful braids for her…

He was a complex person, but Jiang Rou suddenly realized that her understanding seemed not to be comprehensive enough. At least, most of the men she knew were lazy and indifferent, like her father and brother.

She once fantasized about her future partner’s appearance, and the most basic requirement was being able to do household chores.

Unexpectedly, this seems to have come true now.

Jiang Rou chuckled in her heart, then obediently took the basin to the corner.
