Chapter 103: Missed 6,935 Times
Lin Zhizhi had slept too much during the day yesterday. Lu Yi had been extremely busy the past week and had only just finished his work yesterday, leaving him severely sleep-deprived.
Looking at the prominent dark circles under Lu Yi’s eyes, which stood out against his fair complexion, Lin Zhizhi wanted him to go rest in the bedroom while she watched TV alone in the living room.
But seeing Lu Yi busily preparing fruit and snacks for her drama-watching session, she knew he would never agree and would insist on staying with her.
Faced with Lu Yi’s stubbornness, Lin Zhizhi had no choice but to rely on her years of drama-watching experience to put on an act. She yawned a few times without a trace of exaggeration, pretending to be sleepy.
Then, she pulled Lu Yi toward the bedroom, using the excuse that they should sleep together—claiming he could be her pillow.
Once they lay in bed, Lu Yi pulled Lin Zhizhi into his arms, cradling her like a child. He patted her back gently, his movements slow and rhythmic.
Lin Zhizhi nestled into Lu Yi’s embrace, shifting slightly to find the most comfortable position. Although she wasn’t very sleepy at first, the warmth of his hug and the soothing rhythm of his pats gradually lulled her into a drowsy state.
Just as she was on the verge of falling asleep, Lu Yi’s hand stopped moving. Instantly, she was jolted back to wakefulness. Raising her head slightly, she saw that Lu Yi had already closed his eyes and drifted off.
Asleep, Lu Yi no longer had the distant and indifferent expression he usually wore outside. His soft bangs fell neatly over his forehead, and his long eyelashes cast a faint shadow on his lower eyelids.
Lin Zhizhi adored Lu Yi’s eyes the most—those deep, obsidian-like peach blossom eyes. Every time she looked into them, she could see her own reflection. The intense and sincere emotions within them always made her heart warm, sending waves through her emotions.
In truth, when someone truly loved you, their eyes would be filled with you. The way they looked at you would always be gentle, as if gazing at a precious treasure. Their gaze would be as soft as water, and even their voice would subconsciously become tender.
Lu Yi slept very still. He always woke up in the exact same position he had fallen asleep in. With his calm sleeping posture and his refined, handsome features, an uninformed person walking in might have mistaken him for a model posing for a photoshoot in bed.
Lin Zhizhi silently watched Lu Yi’s sleeping face. Her fingers twitched slightly, tempted to reach out and touch his cheek, but she held back for fear of waking him.
The reason Lu Yi had been so busy that week was mainly to wrap up his urgent work so that he could take Lin Zhizhi back to his grandmother’s house first, then go on a trip afterward.
He had planned this a long time ago. The decision to go back now was also carefully thought out—he had waited because Lin Zhizhi had still been in the early stages of pregnancy before. Now that she was four months along and her condition had stabilized, it was finally time.
Since Lin Zhizhi had gotten plenty of sleep, she woke up early in the morning, thinking about getting up to make a simple breakfast for herself. However, just as she sat up, Lu Yi also woke up.
In the end, since her cooking skills were average at best—only capable of producing plain, ordinary flavors—she wisely chose not to compete with Lu Yi, whose culinary skills were on par with a five-star chef. Sensibly, she relinquished the position of head chef in the kitchen to him.
Lin Zhizhi sat on the round sofa in the living room, holding a cup of warm water in her hands. Through the large floor-to-ceiling windows, she gazed outside.
The high-rise view was expansive, allowing her to overlook the city’s beauty from this vantage point. The morning sunlight spilled onto the balcony just right, instantly enhancing the greenery of the potted plants arranged along the edges. A single dewdrop clung to the heart of a tender green leaf, sparkling as the sunlight hit it, radiating brilliance.
Her hand, holding the water cup, suddenly paused. One hand grasped the handle of the cup, while the other rested beneath it. Lin Zhizhi was captivated by the breathtaking sunrise outside.
Golden hues of dawn gradually tinged the horizon red, making everything seem dazzling. The sky, rooftops, and streets all shimmered in brightness—a warm, reddish glow spreading across everything, as if the world had turned into a giant fiery mirror.
Unable to resist, Lin Zhizhi set down the water cup, picked up her phone, and pushed open the floor-to-ceiling windows, wanting to get closer to this magnificent display of nature.
Standing on the balcony, she raised her phone to capture the stunning scenery, but no matter how she tried, the images failed to capture the breathtaking beauty and impact of the real scene before her.
The soft rays of light spread across the city, casting a rich orange glow over the varied colors of the urban landscape. The reflected brilliance danced in dazzling patterns, and the warmth of the morning sun wrapped around her body and face, leaving her feeling cozy and embraced by light.
Mesmerized, Lin Zhizhi stood still for a while, lost in admiration. Then, she decided to go to the kitchen to call Lu Yi over so they could appreciate the rare sight together.
This was a view that could only be witnessed by waking up early.
Just as she turned around, she saw Lu Yi already walking toward her.
Lu Yi, having almost finished preparing breakfast, had stepped out to let Lin Zhizhi have a bite to eat first. But what he saw was Lin Zhizhi leaning against the railing like a curious, innocent child, gazing into the distant sky.
Her soft, flowing hair cascaded over her shoulders and back. From behind, the tilt of her head revealed half of her delicate, beautiful profile. Her refined features were bathed in the glow of the sunrise, while the warm morning breeze brushed across her brows and eyes. Wrapped in the golden light, she seemed to radiate an ethereal glow.
At that moment, Lu Yi instinctively slowed his breathing, as if afraid that Lin Zhizhi might vanish into the morning light.
And then, just as Lin Zhizhi turned around, Lu Yi was caught off guard—colliding straight into a pair of eyes sparkling with starlit laughter.
Bang, bang, bang—
One beat after another.
It was the uncontrollable sound of a racing heartbeat.
Lu Yi walked up behind Lin Zhizhi, wrapped his arms around her waist, and gently rested his chin on her shoulder, his breath warm against the delicate skin of her neck. “So beautiful.”
The heat from his words spread across the sensitive skin of her neck, both warm and ticklish.
Lin Zhizhi assumed he was talking about the scenery and nodded in agreement. “Right? I think so too! I was just about to go inside and call you out to see it, but you came out on your own.”
Lu Yi was so close to Lin Zhizhi that he could clearly see the smoothness of her skin and the delicate beauty of her features. Her long, curled eyelashes fluttered slightly. “It’s really, really beautiful. Beautiful enough that I want to lock it away in my heart.”
Lin Zhizhi nodded again, leaning against Lu Yi while continuing to voice her admiration for the breathtaking view.
As they fell into a comfortable silence, simply enjoying the scenery together, Lin Zhizhi suddenly thought of something. She turned her head slightly and looked at Lu Yi with curiosity. “What’s 19 times 365?”
Lu Yi was momentarily stunned. He had just been immersed in the mesmerizing beauty of the view, yet now, out of nowhere, she was asking a math question? Even if she loved studying, shouldn’t she be asking something related to literature at this moment? Or at least composing a poem about the sunrise?
Fortunately, Lu Yi was good at mental math. He quickly calculated in his head and answered: “6935.”
“Why?” He looked at her, puzzled. “Why are you asking this all of a sudden?”
Lin Zhizhi heard the answer and let out a sigh of regret. Her eyes remained fixed on the sky as she nodded her little head, her tone full of lament. “That means I’ve missed 6,935 sunrises and 6,935 of these breathtaking moments.”
She sighed dramatically. “Truly, the morning is the most precious part of the day.”
Lu Yi finally understood her train of thought and couldn’t help but laugh. He was both amused and exasperated—only she would think like this.
Tsk, as expected of my wife.
