Chapter 2: Pregnant  

The decision to keep the child was not solely because it was a prerequisite for Lin Zhizhi’s survival; it was also because Lin Zhizhi could not bear to give up the baby. 

In reality, Lin Zhizhi had been abandoned by her parents since childhood, and the Original Owner’s parents had both passed away when she was in middle school.  

Therefore, regardless of whether the future would be influenced by the plot, Lin Zhizhi was determined not to give up the child.  

As for the father of the child, the Male Protagonist Lu Yi, according to the current progression of the novel’s plot, he had not yet fallen in love with the Female Protagonist Song Nuan.

Lu Yi was supposed to fall for Song Nuan in the later stages of the story, during their interactions as Song Nuan helped him take care of his son.  

Lin Zhizhi had no intention of becoming a third party in their relationship. However, at the moment, there was nothing between the male and female protagonists — it was merely Song Nuan secretly harboring feelings for Lu Yi.  

Although Lin Zhizhi had only been in the workforce for a year or two, she had already witnessed the intense competition within the workplace. 

Thus, she was no saint. From a young age, she believed that if one desired something, they had to strive and fight for it, regardless of the outcome.  

Because of this, Lin Zhizhi intended to take the initiative to approach Lu Yi. 

However, she had never been in a relationship before and had no experience. If, during their interactions, Lu Yi did not develop feelings for her, or if she did not develop feelings for him, they could simply remain as the child’s biological parents.  

Thinking about Lu Yi, Lin Zhizhi suddenly remembered that she was still his “girlfriend” — though only in name. 

The reason the Original Owner had become Lu Yi’s girlfriend in the first place was because of Lu Yi’s half-brother, Lu Tian.  

Lu Tian was the son of Lu Yi’s stepmother and was only two or three months younger than Lu Yi. It was obvious at a glance what had happened. 

After Lu Yi’s biological mother passed away, his father quickly remarried and had another son. Disheartened, Lu Yi moved out of the family home to live on his own.  

Back in high school, there was a day when Lu Tian suddenly went to Lu Yi’s school to pick a fight. The Original Owner happened to pass by at the time. 

Lu Tian, who didn’t to get the reaction he wanted from Lu Yi, attempted to shift his aggression toward the Original Owner. 

Just as Lu Tian was about to lay hands on her, Lu Yi pulled the Original Owner behind him to protect her.  

Lu Tian was a delinquent teenager who hung out with the wrong crowd and had a habit of harassing pretty girls. 

Lu Yi felt that the reason the Original Owner had become Lu Tian’s target was because of him. So when Lu Tian asked if the Original Owner was his girlfriend, Lu Yi did not deny it. 

After all, Lu Tian only dared to make crude remarks toward Lu Yi but would not dare to take any real action.  

Because of this, Lu Yi felt guilty toward the Original Owner. He promised that their relationship could officially end after they got into college. 

They would publicly announce that it was the Original Owner who had broken up with the Male Protagonist. 

After all, breaking up after going to different colleges was common, and Lu Tian would no longer have an excuse to cause trouble.  

Originally, the relationship between Lu Yi and the Original Owner should have ended after that party. However, things took an unexpected turn. 

Lu Yi and Lin Zhizhi ended up in the same bedroom after getting drunk, and what happened that night changed everything. 

Not only did they fail to break up, but their relationship also became more complicated.  

This complicated relationship now provided Lin Zhizhi with a legitimate reason to approach Lu Yi, to spend time with him, and to get to know him better.

After finishing her breakfast, Lin Zhizhi changed into a simple white dress, applied light makeup, and then headed out to school.  

Before leaving the house, Lin Zhizhi couldn’t resist admiring herself in the mirror. Her delicate facial features, fair and supple skin, gracefully arched eyebrows like a painting, and bright, star-like eyes made her face appear exquisite and refined — otherworldly even.  

Lin Zhizhi thought that if she kept looking any longer, she might just fall in love with herself.  

Although her apartment was only about a ten-minute walk from the school, Lin Zhizhi was feeling too lazy to walk today. 

She headed straight to the underground garage, randomly picked a car, opened the door, casually tossed her bag onto the passenger seat, buckled her seatbelt, and promptly started the engine.  

The Original Owner had bought several cars. The one Lin Zhizhi chose today was mid-to-high in price — not too flashy, but not too low-key either. 

With the kind of assets she now possessed, keeping a low profile was nearly impossible. 

Besides, after everything she had been through, Lin Zhizhi just wanted to live life as she pleased.
