Chi Yizhen: “My past?”
He pulled up a chair and sat down while He Tiao seasoned the duck since the barbecue chef hadn’t arrived yet.
Viewers in the live stream were now estimating profits and expenses as they watched him quickly assume the role of the barbecue stall owner. He also added, “I shouldn’t have asked.”
[The image of this gaming expert keeps jumping around in my mind, seemingly straightforward but also a bit shrewd, deep emotions with a touch of cunning…]
[Ah, isn’t this Chi Yizhen’s sorrowful past?]
[I watched him a bit during junior high, wasn’t it in an idol drama? I could basically finish watching it just by looking at his face.]
[Back when he had such good conditions…]
Chi Yizhen started a new tabulation and glanced at the nearby bubble tea shop, thinking about buying a drink.
He shrugged, “There’s nothing wrong with asking. After all, you’re my husband, right?”
[Hahaha, every time he gives answers that are so unexpected!]
[Why are you two like this?!]
[Is this what they mean by the pinnacle of push and pull? I’m dying.]
[With this nonchalant ‘husband’ and this perspective of him sitting on a small stool and raising his gaze, He Tiao, if you’re not moved, you must be a stone!]
[Xianggua is really something. This pair looks even better than Yu Yuxing’s, I just peeked at their variety show, it’s all the same old routine.]
He Tiao choked for a moment.
Chi Yizhen: “In the past, there was pressure, like being criticized by netizens for having poor acting skills. At the time, I thought…”
He even laughed a bit, “At the time, I just wanted to die. But looking back now, it wasn’t a big deal.”
Since the program was being recorded here in the night market, it coincided with the time when there were the most university students around. Even if they didn’t want to disturb, they couldn’t help but take a look.
The director had just sent a notice explaining that they would start installing fixed equipment tomorrow for seamless shooting.
The number of viewers in the live stream kept increasing, and people on other platforms were also posting previews.
Comparing them, it seemed that the live stream’s filters had been slightly softened, and the photos taken by bystanders were blurred as if they had added some noise, creating a unique atmosphere.
No matter how you looked at it, they seemed like an ordinary couple from the mortal world, with a bit of extraordinary affection in their gazes.
“If we’re talking about de-stressing, it was always my brother who took me to play games.”
In the memories of the original host, most of the joy came from family, and there was no mention of any romantic relationships online.
Chi Yiming had been adopted by the Chi family before they had their own child due to Mrs. Chi’s health issues.
Surprisingly, not long after adopting Chi Yiming, Mrs. Chi became pregnant and gave birth to Chi Yishen.
The family had a very good relationship, and Chi Yiming treated Chi Yishen like a real brother.
All of this was new and fresh for Chi Yizhen, who had experienced a different kind of familial love in his previous life, which abruptly ended at the age of eight when his child model career came to a halt.
Because he looked cute, he was quickly adopted from the orphanage. Fortunately, the teacher couple who adopted Chi Yizhen didn’t see him as a money-making tool. They wholeheartedly treated him well. Unfortunately, fate seemed to be against him, and Chi Yizhen felt like he was destined to be a star-crossed child.
When he was fifteen, his adoptive parents accumulated a huge debt due to being deceived by someone they knew. It was an amount that might as well have been a death sentence. When they left, they had actually intended to take Chi Yizhen with them.
However, fate intervened, and a student came to deliver some documents at just the right moment. Chi Yizhen was left behind once again.
This time, no one wanted to adopt him again, and he was left in a state of having no close relatives. It was difficult to come up with enough money to pay for his high school tuition. Coincidentally, a renowned director was looking for a new lead actor for a film.
In that era, movie protagonists could come from humble backgrounds, and Chi Yizhen ended up being noticed simply because he happened to pass by. His heart was covered in a thick layer of dust, and no one could break through it. Even as he embarked on his journey in the entertainment industry, he had no real friends. Relationships were superficial, and he felt like a preserved rose specimen with many layers. In reality, he had long withered inside, but his facade of vitality was maintained through skillful techniques.
In a way, this experience of transmigration was also a fresh one. It was like the virtual world of the game he had been addicted to, where virtual characters lived different lives with each playthrough. Ironically, the character he transmigrated into seemed to share a similar emotional journey with him.
But Chi Yishen had experienced happiness, while Chi Yizhen had not.
Now, the original memories of the protagonist and Chi Yizhen’s own memories were intertwined. At times, he almost believed he had a brother to accompany him—a perfect and harmonious family. He smiled to himself, and the bustling noise of the night market seemed to form a unique barrier around him, like a glass cover surrounding a specimen, keeping everything at an untouchable distance.
He shrugged, “Participating in the show is pretty good. At least there’s food to eat. Working anywhere else would still be work.”
When he raised his eyes again, the loneliness that had enveloped him moments ago had disappeared completely. He reached out and lightly tugged at the black drawstring hanging from the edge of He Tiao’s coat, effortlessly pulling him closer.
“But can we really complete the mission? How much money are we supposed to earn?” Chi Yizhen gazed up at the sky while He Tiao used his phone to record the types of barbecue and their retail prices, as well as the wholesale prices he had inquired about at the market. The production team had provided supplies for this one time only, leaving no detail unattended.
Even though they could take a break from their roles every five days, they still had to endure the full fifteen days.
Looking up at his slender man, who lacked any imposing presence and had a faint smile on his face, Chi Yizhen thought that even though his physique wasn’t imposing, there was something endearing about him.
Above them, the flashy neon lights from the neighboring bubble tea shop created a dynamic atmosphere. The multicolored lights briefly passed over Chi Yizhen’s face, highlighting even the small mole on the tip of his nose, making it all the more enchanting.
He Tiao’s Adam’s apple bobbed, and then, as if out of his control, he reached out and gently touched Chi Yizhen’s hair.
“It’s okay; I can support you.”
In his mind, He Tiao thought, “Not just on the show, but even outside of it. Maybe not as wealthy as the lunatic who used to chase you, but at least I can be wealthier than him in the future.”
He Tiao was not someone who frequently displayed self-confidence. He had always been steady and composed, and flaunting his sharpness was never his style. It could be said that the sharpness in his works was like a sheathed blade, while the real him was the sheath, and the frost would only blossom during the tempering process.
