Chapter 41: Exclusive to Jinjiang 2/2
Song Fuzhi smiled and agreed.
—
Song Fuzhi didn’t expect that during the day, in addition to teaching and preparing for class, he would actually lead a post-school life similar to the kids in the anime club.
During lunch break and between classes, Song Fuzhi took some time to discuss cosplay with Luo Luli.
Luo Luli had some experience in this, having been in the fandom for quite a while, making her more familiar than Song Fuzhi.
For his first cosplay attempt, Song Fuzhi chose a character he had liked since childhood. It was a classic character, possibly a bit outdated for today’s youth.
He was the first character Song Fuzhi fell in love with when he was a child.
In the manga he secretly read in his mom’s office, he saw this man fighting with blood; even if he was covered in wounds, he never bowed his head and gave up. His aura was tough; he was a true man, and Song Fuzhi was captivated by him.
Perhaps from that time on, he liked the flavor of battle damage—the kind of resilience that remained unyielding even when injured, still standing tall. It was touching and genuinely handsome.
After telling Luo Luli about this character, she quickly agreed.
Because his costume and makeup weren’t too complicated, he needed three prop knives, but they were easy to find.
Luo Luli waved her hand. “Your clothes are too simple; I bought one for you. Just leave it at my place. You can drive to pick me up that day.”
Song Fuzhi said, “Okay.”
He also finalized the schedule for that day, waking up early in the morning to send Professor Shi to the airport, then going to the school to check out their club exhibition, picking up Luo Luli, getting the costume and props, and finally going to the comic convention.
full and compact.
Song Fuzhi, who usually had a monotonous life, had never had such a rich schedule.
Luo Luli asked him, “Do you know the most challenging part of cosplaying this character?”
“What?” Song Fuzhi asked.
Luo Luli said, “The body, the body!”
She changed her tone and said, “Anyway, you don’t need to worry; your body is really good. Wear the clothes, put on fake fur, grab three knives, and I guarantee you’ll be back to the original in minutes.”
Miss Luo Luli was aiming for something big. She chose a very new female character, with complex props and makeup and wings behind her, very ethereal.
Song Fuzhi had never tried cosplaying at a comic convention, so he was not familiar with the process that day and asked Luo Luli many questions.
such as what to bring, what to pay attention to, whether there would be many people on-site, and what if he didn’t cosplay well and got laughed at.
Luo Luli laughed heartily and said, “No one will laugh at you, and no one cares who you are in real life. They’ll just call you by your character’s name. Strangers can happily collect items and exchange snacks and peripherals with each other. The atmosphere is very joyful; you’ll know when you go.”
In the previous comic convention, Song Fuzhi didn’t fully immerse himself because he was constantly on edge due to encounters with students. This time, it wouldn’t be the same.
“There is no need to prepare anything special,” Luo Luli said. “Just bring yourself and a happy heart.”
Song Fuzhi smiled and agreed.
“Oh,” Luo Luli added, “don’t forget to bring colored contact lenses!”
—
Since their marriage, this was the first time Shi Zhang was going to be away from home for such a long time.
Song Fuzhi had been single for over thirty years and had never experienced the feeling of someone close suddenly going on a business trip.
During the mid-term exams, he was already busy, and privately, he was secretly preparing for the comic convention with Luo Luli. The time passed quickly.
So when he saw Shi Zhang packing his bags at home, Song Fuzhi only belatedly came to his senses—Shi Zhang was leaving the next day.
Shi Zhang brought a large suitcase, almost half of which was filled with cameras, instruments, specimen clips, a toolbox, and a first aid kit. The clothes were suitable for outdoor activities, including a windbreaker and hiking boots. Just by looking at it, you could tell he was heading into the mountains.
Looking inside the suitcase, Song Fuzhi remarked, “So many tools.”
“This is just my habit of bringing backups.” Shi Zhang smiled. “The team will have another box specifically for more professional instruments.”
The contents of the box were laid out for all to see. Song Fuzhi looked for a while and asked, “Why didn’t you bring shampoo and shower gel?”
“Hmm,” Shi Zhang made a sound, “forgot to buy travel-sized ones. Didn’t want to bring big bottles; I’ll just use the hotel’s when I get there.”
Before, Shi Zhang had shown Song Fuzhi the place they would be staying. Upon seeing it, Song Fuzhi couldn’t help but frown.
It couldn’t be called a hotel; it was more like an inn in a remote village. It was a small cottage that couldn’t even be found on travel apps.
Professor Shi, who usually pays so much attention to enjoying life, didn’t seem to be picky this time.
Shi Zhang waved his hand. “There are not so many requirements for fieldwork.”
Song Fuzhi then picked up Shi Zhang’s first-aid kit and opened it. There were simple bandages, but he randomly checked a few packets of cold medicine and stomach medicine, and they were all expired.
Song Fuzhi pursed his lips, and his expression wasn’t great. He lifted the medicines in front of Shi Zhang and said, “All expired, Professor.”
Shi Zhang, rarely caught red-handed, looked for a few seconds and lowered his head to admit his mistake: “I didn’t get sick when I went out before, so I didn’t care about them. I forgot to replace them.”
What use is a big professor if he can’t even manage these daily matters? Life’s trivialities should be handled by family members.
Song Fuzhi sighed lightly and stood up, saying, “I’ll go out and buy some daily necessities and medicine for you.”
Shi Zhang stood up with him and said, “I’ll go with you; I’m almost done packing.”
So, on Friday night, the two big men went out together, pushing a cart, and started to shop at the supermarket.
In fact, since their marriage, the time they spent shopping together at the supermarket was rare.
Usually, it was a matter of who had more free time. Whoever finished work first would go to the supermarket to buy groceries and daily necessities. There were really not many times they pushed a shopping cart side by side like this.
Saying that they were only buying daily necessities, the result was that after a round in the supermarket, the cart had a lot more things in it.
Travel bath sets, disposable underwear, facial wipes, chocolates, appetizers, small bread…
While putting things into the cart, Song Fuzhi was muttering. This one you can take for your trip; that one might not taste good; spicy appetizers can whet your appetite; chocolates for energy; don’t get hypoglycemic; bread for emergencies; don’t forget to buy water when you get there; don’t drink the kind of water in the wild…
His experience with someone going away for a long time was lacking, and he just hoped that Shi Zhang would be comfortable outside. So, unconsciously, he had considered a lot.
Actually, Shi Zhang’s field experience was much greater than Song Fuzhi’s. He knew exactly what was needed and what wasn’t. He had good physical strength and didn’t need such detailed preparations.
But Song Fuzhi’s appearance, fussing over him, was so adorable that Shi Zhang couldn’t bear to interrupt him. He felt warm inside.
Ah, why is marriage so good? Someone cares about you and protects you.
Who understands this feeling?
Song Fuzhi was diligently selecting non-wash disinfectant on the shelf for Shi Zhang when suddenly he felt a strong arm around his waist, pulling him over.
Before he could react, Song Fuzhi was firmly kissed by Shi Zhang.
Song Fuzhi was stunned; his pupils contracted slightly, and then his heartbeat suddenly accelerated.
“Shi Zhang, this is a supermarket.”
Song Fuzhi quickly looked around, speaking with a lowered voice and a slight frown.
“I know. But I can’t resist.” Shi Zhang chuckled softly. “Thank you, Teacher Song; you’re too good.”
Shi Zhang got a little closer, his voice slightly hoarse. “I really want to kiss you; I can’t help it. Teacher Song, forgive me.”
Song Fuzhi had no words, blushing a bit in his ears.
After purchasing almost half of the cart of items, Song Fuzhi felt it was almost enough, and they could head back.
“Let’s go to the checkout.”
Song Fuzhi was ready to push the cart to the cashier, but suddenly, his arm was grabbed by Shi Zhang.
“Wait a moment,” Shi Zhang said in front of a shelf.
Song Fuzhi looked, and his heart skipped a beat.
The entire shelf was filled with condoms, different brands, different styles, colorful, and varied.
“Buy some,” Shi Zhang said, his tone very casual.
“Oh,” Song Fuzhi responded calmly.
Only he knew that his heart had sped up a lot.
He’s already an adult; why does buying this item make his heart beat faster?
Song Fuzhi inwardly despised himself and then belatedly realized that it might be because he used to play alone before and didn’t need this product.
When Professor Shi picked items, he had the demeanor of a researcher: calm and discerning. He picked up different boxes, carefully reading the data and functions on them.
“Teacher Song, do you have a preference?” Shi Zhang asked.
“No,” Song Fuzhi paused, “anyway, it’s not like you’re not the one using it. Just pick the one you like.”
Shi Zhang chuckled softly, very low and pleasant.
Song Fuzhi’s ears felt a bit warm.
After looking for a while, Shi Zhang suddenly glanced around, then waved to the sales clerk, “Excuse me, I have a question.”
The clerk walked over, and Shi Zhang picked up a box, asking her, “Do you have larger sizes of these?”
“Oh, let me check for you,” the clerk professionally reminded him. “These are based on circumference, not length.”
“I know,” Shi Zhang nodded, “thank you.”
“How many do you want?” the clerk asked.
Shi Zhang said, “Three boxes.”
The clerk walked away, and Song Fuzhi muttered under his breath, “Professor has a pretty clear sense of self-awareness.”
Shi Zhang turned to ask Song Fuzhi, “What does Teacher Song think?”
Song Fuzhi turned his head without looking at him and said, “I think you made the right choice.”
“In fact,” Song Fuzhi paused for a moment before continuing, “you don’t necessarily have to buy them.”
Shi Zhang looked at him with surprise and asked, “Why?”
Song Fuzhi said, “We’ve had a health check before; both are healthy, no issues.”
…
A flash of darkness passed through Shi Zhang’s eyes, and he said firmly to Song Fuzhi, “That won’t do either.”
It’s not a question of whether you’re healthy or not.
Without those, Shi Zhang fears he might go crazy.
The clerk quickly returned with the items, and Shi Zhang thanked her before placing the boxes in the shopping cart.
He also picked up a small bottle from the nearby shelf.
Looking at all these items, Song Fuzhi felt a bit numb.
He endured it and still reminded Shi Zhang, “Shi Zhang, you have to leave early tomorrow morning; you need to get up at least by six, and now it’s already ten in the evening. We’ll probably be back home around eleven.”
As a workaholic, Teacher Song seriously summed up, “I feel like today isn’t going well.”
“Well, I didn’t plan for today; I just kept them at home for now,” Shi Zhang said.
Song Fuzhi secretly breathed a sigh of relief, unexpectedly feeling a bit disappointed.
If he had known, he would have bought them earlier. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have rushed to buy them the day before the business trip and couldn’t even use them.
Shi Zhang, sticking close to Song Fuzhi’s ear, whispered softly, “Wait for me to come back, okay?”
