Chapter 2: Fiancé is in Love

With the man’s consent, Su Yi quickly thanked him and hurriedly opened the back door to get in.

As summer approached, it was midday, and Su Yi’s pants were already half dry.

However, her two thick and long braids were still dripping water. Afraid of dirtying the man’s car, Su Yi opened the window, twisted the braids to remove the water, and then untied them to let them dry by the window.

Zhou Jinchuan was still pondering over the words he had just heard and subconsciously glanced at the rearview mirror.

He saw her black hair all down, blowing in the wind to partially cover her face, her eyes slightly red and misty as she gazed outside the window, looking pitiful.

Zhou Jinchuan quickly averted his gaze, feeling inexplicably dumbfounded. Wasn’t she fierce when she hit someone just now?

Su Yi didn’t pay any attention to the man’s gaze in the front. After drying her hair for a while, she saw that it was half dry and rolled up the car window again.

With little rain in the northwest and the road being dusty, the car kicked up a lot of dust along the way.

She had gotten sand in her eyes earlier, rubbing them for a while before feeling better.

Now, she half-closed her eyes, leaning back in her seat to rest, while also mentally reviewing everyone the original host knew.

She sadly realized that the only person she could rely on now, who had been decent to the original host, was the original host’s fiancé, Qin Yunfeng.

This is probably the reason why the original host came running here alone after arguing with family.

But it’s been two years since she last saw this fiancé, and she doesn’t know if he’s still reliable now.

However, there’s no other choice at the moment, so she can only go and see for herself.

By the time the three of them arrived at the military base, dusk was approaching.

Zhou Jinchuan instructed Xie Xiaojun to park the car at a distance.

Su Yi understood and got out of the car promptly, saying, “Thank you, comrades of the Liberation Army! I will make sure to find a way to repay you in the future!”

Zhou Jinchuan’s tone carried a hint of warning, “No need to repay, and there’s no need to mention today’s events to anyone.”

Su Yi looked at him in astonishment, instantly understanding.

She quickly crossed her hands in front of her and respectfully bowed, “I understand, I will keep it a secret. You can trust me, sir.”

Zhou Jinchuan nodded slightly, then turned his gaze forward. “Let’s go!”

[Gee, such a big man with such a small mind. Is he trying to make me pretend not to recognize anyone]

[Sigh, it’s my fault for being impulsive. Such a handsome guy, but I left a handprint on his face. No wonder he looked so upset.]

[I wonder if he’s the highest-ranking leader here? What if I have to stay here in the future, will he make things difficult for me?]

The strange voice resurfaced, causing even the usually calm Zhou Jinchuan to turn back in surprise.

He saw the girl still smiling and waving goodbye to him, her mouth curved in a constant smile.

“Captain, what are you looking at? Are you worried about that girl?”

“Xiao Xie, didn’t you hear what she said just now?”

“I did. She promised not to tell anyone. Captain, you can rest assured. I think as a young girl, she wouldn’t talk about you giving her CPR to anyone. Besides, Captain, you did it to save her; there’s a reason for everything.”

“Not that one, did you hear anything else?”

“Ah? She didn’t say anything else.”

“…”

For the first time in twenty-six years, Zhou Jinchuan found himself perplexed.

However, Xie Xiaojun was completely unaware and kept gossiping non-stop.

“Captain, why didn’t you let me talk about Qin Yunfeng just now? He has been getting very close to that violinist in the Cultural Troupe recently. You even saw them together last time. I didn’t expect that guy to have a fiancée! It’s so frustrating!”

“Also, Captain, don’t you think that guy is too lucky in love? The violinist in the Cultural Troupe is so aloof and beautiful!”

“By the way, the reason she looks so beautiful now is that there used to be fewer female soldiers in our unit, making her stand out. But now that Qin Yunfeng’s fiancée is here, she immediately steals the spotlight. I have never seen a girl as beautiful as her, she’s like a flower.”

Zhou Jinchuan’s mind was in chaos, but his lips involuntarily asked, “Is she very beautiful?”

Upon hearing this, Xie Xiaojun immediately exclaimed, “Not beautiful? She’s incredibly beautiful! Oh my goodness, she’s like a celestial being from heaven, even more beautiful than the girls in the movie we watched in the unit last time—ten times more!”

Zhou Jinchuan closed his eyes for a moment, reminiscing.

With a delicate oval face, almond-shaped eyes, clear and bright gaze, a small and straight nose, rosy lips, and exquisite features, she exuded a stunning and dignified aura.

When she apologized, her long eyelashes fluttered like a small fan.

When she smiled, her eyes and brows curved upwards, accompanied by a pair of captivating dimples.

She did indeed seem quite beautiful.

As Zhou Jinchuan realized that he had unconsciously recalled her appearance in his mind, he felt regretful.

She was here to find her fiancé, why was he reminiscing about her appearance!

Blame it all on Xie Xiaojun.

“Xie Xiaojun, starting from tomorrow, make sure to brush up on your first aid knowledge! If you ever pull a disappearing act like today again, I won’t go easy on you!”

Xie Xiaojun quickly sat up straight, “Yes!”

“Captain, do you want me to take you home?”

“First, take me to the medical room.”

“Ah? Captain, are you feeling unwell?”

“It’s nothing, I just got a bit chilled from getting wet earlier. I’ll go there myself, you can drop me off on the side of the road.”

Xie Xiaojun glanced at the weather outside, thinking that it wasn’t particularly cold today.

How could Captain Zhou, who even took cold showers in the dead of winter, be feeling this way today?

He couldn’t shake off the feeling that something was off about Captain Zhou today.

Despite his curiosity, Xie Xiaojun didn’t dare say much.

On the other side, Su Yi only realized after getting out of the car that she had forgotten to return the coat to the man.

Although the original host’s height of 1.67 meters was considered tall among female comrades, the man she met appeared to be at least twenty centimeters taller than her.

The coat she was wearing was big and long on her, looking awkwardly out of place.

Su Yi quickly took it off, folded it in reverse, and held it in her arms.

Thinking about meeting the fiancé that the original host had risked her life to see but never got the chance to, Su Yi’s emotions were complex, but she still lifted her foot and walked towards the gate.

Upon reaching the gatehouse, Su Yi politely explained the reason for her visit.

The two comrades in the gatehouse were a bit bashful upon seeing such a beautiful girl. One of them warmly helped her with registration, while the other picked up the phone and dialed a number.

After a brief conversation, he hung up, “Lieutenant Qin is not here. I just remembered, he seems to be resting or out for the day.”

As he finished speaking, the other comrade pointed to the road outside.

“Look, isn’t that Lieutenant Qin over there?”

Su Yi followed his pointing finger and looked over—

Under the setting sun, a man in military uniform was slowly cycling towards her, his face gradually matching the image in the original host’s memory.

Su Yi was about to wave when she suddenly caught sight of a white dress trailing behind the man.

Upon a closer look, she noticed a girl sitting behind him on the bicycle.

The two of them were chatting and laughing, appearing very joyful.

When there were no onlookers around, the girl quickly reached out and hugged Qin Yunfeng’s waist from behind. Qin Yunfeng lovingly glanced back at her, and the affection and sweetness in their eyes were evident even from a distance.

The two comrades in the gatehouse exchanged glances.

Su Yi clicked her tongue in disbelief – Could it be that her fiancé was in love?!
