From the place of disembarkation to the family courtyard, Su Xi walked for nearly an hour.

As she arrived at the gate of the yard assigned to her Brother, carrying a rattan box, she didn’t even have time to knock on the door.

The courtyard door had already been opened from the inside, and Su Xi instinctively put on a smile, unsurprisingly locking eyes with Chen Xiangyun, who was preparing to harvest leeks in the vegetable garden.

Her Grandma wore a straw hat on her head with a bamboo basket hanging from her hand. She stood there, staring blankly at her granddaughter at the door, seemingly a bit stunned.

Chen Xiangyun finally snapped out of the joy of seeing her granddaughter when Su Xi pretended to dodge Grandma’s slaps in pain. She patted Su Xi’s arm with her hands and said, “This child is getting bolder. In such a remote place, she came alone, not afraid of getting lost.”

Su Xi, pretending to be in pain, dodged Grandma’s slaps with a sweet and sincere smile. Her deep black eyes sparkled as if filled with dazzling starlight.

After experiencing years of separation, she could finally live with her family now. How could she not be happy?

But there were more important things to do now. Su Xi raised her hand to wipe away her Grandma’s tears. “Grandma, I’ll go report first. We can chat when I come back. There are two soldiers outside waiting for me; they won’t come in to rest.”

Su Xi didn’t know why her grandma went back inside, so she kept herself busy by opening a rattan box and taking out two small bags of dried fruits she bought from G Province.

She planned to give them to the little soldiers who would come to visit her later, as a thoughtful gesture.

After she closed the box, Grandma also walked out of the room, carrying some candies in her hands.

Su Xi understood and placed the dried fruits she had in Grandma’s bag, waiting for Grandma to distribute them to the young soldiers.
