Chapter 185.1
Su Xiaoxiao had just gotten up and finished the breakfast brought back by Fantuan and Xiao Doubao.
Zhuzi, holding the hands of two little twins, arrived in front of Su Xiaoxiao, dusty and tired. “Aunt, just now Tiantian’s mom and a man came to our shop for breakfast. Xiao Roubao heard them talking about the house. You can ask him to tell you about what he heard.”
Su Xiaoxiao reached out and took Xiao Roubao’s hand. “So, what did you hear, Xiao Roubao? Do you still remember?”
Zhuzi said, “Didn’t you just tell your brother that you remember every word? Just repeat what they said; you don’t need to understand the meaning.”
Xiao Roubao tilted his head and asked, “But what does repeat mean?”
Zhuzi was speechless.
Su Xiaoxiao explained, “It means you say what they said to Mommy.”
Xiao Roubao nodded vigorously, broke free from his mother’s embrace, and first found his own position to stand and said, “This is where I stood at that time.”
He then ran to a position opposite him. “This is where the rude aunt was standing.”
Su Xiaoxiao blinked. Rude aunt?
Zhuzi whispered, “Xiao Roubao said they were rude, so he calls them rude uncle and rude aunt.”
Su Xiaoxiao couldn’t help but laugh.
Xiao Roubao took a few steps to the left. “This is where the rude uncle was standing.”
Then the little guy returned to the rude aunt’s position, mimicking Tiantian’s mom’s expression and tone, raising his voice. “Little friend, do they have food here?”
Xiao Roubao ran back to his position, lifted his head, and faithfully repeated his response. “No food, but there are dumplings. Very delicious sour soup dumplings. Do you want some?”
He then returned to the woman’s position, imitating her, ignoring him, and speaking to the “man” on her left. “Let’s just eat something here. Didn’t your brother-in-law want to open a shop?” He replicated the entire conversation.
Then he jumped to the rude uncle’s position, lowering his voice. Keep your voice down; we’re in the neighborhood; the walls have ears.”
Xiao Roubao, playing all three roles, perfectly reproduced their tones, expressions, and small gestures, repeating the entire conversation verbatim.
After finishing his performance, Xiao Roubao clapped his little hands and blinked his innocent eyes. “That’s what they said. They talked for so long but ignored me, didn’t thank me, and were very rude. Then Zhuzi Zhuzi and my little sister came back and brought me tangyuan stuffed with sesame. They went into our restaurant to eat dumplings.” Xiao Roubao smacked his lips, remembering the taste of sesame dumplings. “Sesame dumplings are so delicious. I want to eat them again tomorrow.”
The room fell silent. Su Xiaoxiao and the other little ones exchanged glances. Was Xiao Roubao a performing genius? His lifelike imitation made them feel as if they were right there. He had memorized their expressions and actions. What kind of extraordinary acting and memory skills did he have?
Fantuan crouched down and pinched his cute little brother’s face in disbelief. “Xiao Roubao, tell your brother quickly; how did you become so smart secretly?” He reasonably suspected the little guy had been pretending to be dumb. Was this really their foodie brother, who wasn’t interested in anything but eating?
The one most shocked was Xiao Doubao. He also crouched down to touch Xiao Roubao’s hand, pinched his face, and determined whether he was his own younger brother. There was no way he could do it. From childhood to adulthood, Xiao Roubao always had a unique temperament of “I’m not very smart; I don’t know anything except food.” When Xiao Roubao was even younger, the whole family was worried that he would be tricked away by a candy, accepting him as the least smart in the family. Xiao Doubao, therefore, worried about him the most and protected him.
Now, discovering their brother wasn’t dumb at all, possibly very smart, Xiao Doubao couldn’t help but be shocked.
Xiao Roubao disdainfully brushed off their hands. “Big brother, what are you doing? I didn’t remember wrong. That’s exactly what they said!”
Fantuan couldn’t resist pinching his face. “Little chubby cheeks, brother misjudged you! You are the smartest one in our family!”
Su Xiaoxiao never thought Xiao Roubao was dumb; she just didn’t realize he had such a talent for acting. She pulled the little one over. “Alright, alright, your brothers didn’t expect you to be so amazing; you actually remembered everything they said. Mommy gives you a thumbs up.”
Xiao Roubao hugged his mother and smiled with his big eyes. “Then, Mommy, can the amazing Xiao Roubao have sesame dumplings again tomorrow?”
Su Xiaoxiao shook her head. “No, you can only have them once a week. You’ll have to wait until next week.”
Xiao Roubao’s face collapsed instantly, but it didn’t take long. Anyway, Aunt Lan and Uncle Yang both always made delicious food, and he could always find something he liked.
Xiao Roubao then asked, “Mommy, what do ‘burden and ‘useless’ mean?”
Su Xiaoxiao’s smile faded. Tiantian’s mom was even more shameless than she thought. She would cut in line to deceive honest people into doing work for her. Now that she could go back to town, she turned her back on them and even on her own daughter. To top it off, she wanted to seize a kind old man’s house to fund her current husband’s shop. She sure knew how to pick on the weak.
Su Xiaoxiao rubbed Xiao Roubao’s head. “Those are bad, insulting words. Xiao Roubao shouldn’t learn them.”
Su Xiaoxiao instructed the two older brothers, “Zhuzi and Fantuan, take good care of your younger siblings. I need to go out for a bit. Granny Zhao can’t come to work at the shop today. You can also help at the shop if needed. If you get hungry, eat there.”
Among the cubs, only Zhuzi knew what was going on. He volunteered and said, “Auntie, I’ll go with you. That man is quite tall, and I don’t feel safe with you going alone.”
The other cubs were confused, but smart Xiao Fantuan guessed what was happening. “Is Tiantian’s mom trying to take Tiantian’s house? I’ll come along to help.”
Xiao Doubao also said, “I want to help too.”
Su Xiaoxiao shook her head. “It’s not a fight. I don’t need so many people. You’d just be in the way. Don’t worry, they won’t dare to do anything. Or if they do, even better. It’ll give me a chance to send them to the police station.”
Su Xiaoxiao looked at the children. “Be good and stay put.”
After Su Xiaoxiao left, the children were still worried.
Zhuzi said, “I just feel those two are bad people. That woman is tall and strong. Auntie Su might suffer.”
Fantuan stroked his chin. “If they dare to hurt my mom, they’ll regret it.”
Xiao Doubao was restless and anxious. He listens to his mother the most, but at the same time, he is worried for her. He will never follow her without permission. He looked at his brothers and said, “Brother, why don’t we go to school and ask Dad to come back and help us?”
Fantuan shook his head. “Not for now. Is Uncle Wu nearby?” he asked Zhuzi.
Zhuzi replied, “He should be. He’s been helping me find a house and comes by every day.”
Fantuan said, “Zhuzi, go find Uncle Wu. If you find him, send him to help Mom. If you can’t, observe secretly and intervene if necessary.”
Zhuzi nodded. “Alright, you take care of the younger ones.”
