Chapter 688: Let him be the captain then
The Black Earth Knights were sweating heavily and said, “Hey, we are the Knights of the Black Earth Knights, don’t be fooled by our appearance. The lowest-ranked official here is a baron.”
The staff sneered and said, “This is Westwind Holy City, Godfather’s territory. Trying to get privileges based on your identity is simply asking for trouble. I advise you to submit the fine obediently and not let Godfather take action personally, or else…”
The Black Earth Knights were scared and decided to give in and pay the fine.
As they were paying, they saw Madeline easily run out of the train station without anyone stopping her. The staff thought to themselves, [Why can women get privileges based on their gender while we can’t get any based on our identity? It’s unfair!]
Just then, they saw the train conductor catch an ugly and fat woman spitting on the ground and fined her.
The Black Earth Knights finally understood that it wasn’t gender privilege but rather beauty privilege.
However, they then saw a beautiful woman also getting caught for fare evasion. At this point, they finally understood that it wasn’t beauty privilege either, but rather Madeline’s special privilege.
Madeline hurried out of the train station but slowed down her pace as she approached the chapel, regaining her elegant and graceful appearance. She then went to the chapel and fixed her black armor before calling out to Robb, “Ah, Godfather, it’s been a while. I was passing through Westwind City and thought I’d take a stroll. I didn’t expect to end up in front of the chapel. How is your student, Robb Smith?”
Robb couldn’t help but laugh and cry and say “You can see for yourself.”
The scene then shifted to Robb Smith, who walked out of the chapel and was “surprised” to see Madeline. “Ah, Madeline, what brings you here?” he said.
“I don’t need to be stationed at Crystal Canyon anymore,” Madeline replied. “After the news that Westwind City repelled the black dragon spread, the Desert Kingdom and the kingdom of Norma was shocked. Elizabeth said they wouldn’t dare attack Crystal Canyon again for a while, so I don’t need to stay there anymore. I was passing by Westwind City, so I came in for a stroll.”
“Ah, just a stroll? That’s great,” Robb said with a smile. “Let me walk with you.”
Madeline was overjoyed.
Robb accompanied her around the city, and they had a great time “dating” until evening. When they returned to the chapel. The steam train from Westwind Town to the Bright Road was already out of service today, and the next one wouldn’t be until noon the next day.
So Madeline could only stay in Westwind City for one night. She was planning to bid farewell to Robb and seek shelter in the nearby Church of Darkness when suddenly her crystal ball lit up. It was her exclusive communication crystal ball with the queen, so she knew immediately that it was the queen calling, just after finishing her state affairs.
Madeline hurriedly wiped the crystal ball and saw the queen’s face appear inside, “Madeline, I guess you’ve been playing around in Westwind City and have delayed leaving the entire day, so you couldn’t catch the train back to Bright Road today.”
Madeline felt slightly embarrassed by these words, and her face couldn’t help turning slightly red. “I tried my best to catch up with the train, but I didn’t make it. It’s not my fault.”
“Trying your best to have a date is a waste of time, isn’t it? Well, it’s okay!” The queen didn’t really mean to blame her best friend. This good friend has always been fighting for her, making countless contributions. If she really wants to stay in Westwind City for ten days or half a month, the queen won’t blame her. Instead, she hopes she can have a comfortable and relaxing time.
“Okay, I’m calling you not to blame you.”
“I can guess that you must be with Robb Smith, so I called partly to find him.” The queen was just about to get down to business when Madeline immediately interrupted, “Elizabeth, last time you clearly promoted him to viscount.”
“Who remembers such small things? There are so many nobles. Why do I have to remember what title a small noble has?” protested the queen.
“He’s not a small noble. He is a descendant of the Smith family and will certainly restore the honor of the Smith Family in the future. This is important, and you must remember it,” Madeline argued.
“If he weren’t a member of the Smith family, I wouldn’t even remember that there is such a person in the world,” the queen retorted sarcastically. But she still changed her tone and said, “Viscount Robb, I command you to be transferred to the Wind Knights as a staff officer from today and follow Madeline’s Black Earth Knights to conquer the lair of Mondra and make your contribution to the recovery of the Kingdom of Gran.”
Robb had already guessed that he would receive such an appointment. When the queen asked him last time how his wind magic practice was going, he had already guessed it. Obviously, the queen was eager to take down Mondra. Even if he had only a little strength, she would want use him. That’s why she thought of him, the “damned man’s student.”
Anyway, the damned man’s stuff is all good stuff. His student must be a reliable fighting force. And he showed some intelligence and strategy in the fake princess incident in Lost City last time, giving advice to the queen and making a great contribution.
It was reasonable to appoint him for this job.
Robb hadn’t had a chance to respond before Madeline spoke up, “Ah! Elizabeth, there’s a problem with this appointment.”
“What’s the problem?” asked the queen, surprised.
“Well, think about it,” Madeline said. “Mr. Robb’s grandfather, John Roland Smith, used to be the captain of the Wind knights. Now you’re asking him to go back to the Wind knights and be a staff officer. Isn’t that humiliating for his former subordinates? I think it’s better to just promote him to be the captain of the Wind knights. After all, his grandfather’s reputation is there, and no one will object, right?”
The queen looked at her askance. “I might as well appoint him as the commander of the Eastern Expeditionary Army. How about that?”
“Great!” Madeline said. “I’ll be his deputy.”
The queen and Robb were both silent.
“He seems to be material for a prime minister,” said the queen.
Madeline was delighted. “Have you noticed that too? Yes, let him be the prime minister!”
The queen and Robb were both silent.
“Bang!” The queen slapped the table angrily. “What are you trying to do? A damned man, a stupid girlfriend, taking turns to anger me. Today this, tomorrow that, don’t be too much.”
Madeline stuck out her tongue. “If you don’t want to do it, forget it. You don’t have to get angry. Let him be a staff officer for now. We just need a staff officer temporarily.”
