Chapter 25: Rabbits can give birth to a litter

Ji Canghai walked quickly to Ling Yunfan’s side, with a heart full of distress, and asked softly, “Are you okay? Did you get hurt?”

Ling Yunfan shook his head slightly in an unclear manner, and let go of the stone in hand. The stone fell to the ground.

“Let’s go home first,” Ji Canghai said, reaching out to help Ling Yunfan up.

Ling Yunfan stood on one foot unsteadily, and his body wobbled.

“You hurt your foot?” Ji Canghai frowned.

“Yeah,” Ling Yunfan responded with a sigh, feeling self-blame and not daring to look at Ji Canghai.

“I’ll carry you on my back,” Ji Canghai said.

“I’m heavy, it’s not easy to carry,” Ling Yunfan said.

“Back or hug, you choose,” Ji Canghai said.

“…Back,” Ling Yunfan replied.

So Ji Canghai half-squatted in front of Ling Yunfan and lifted him up on his back.

Ling Yunfan was tall with long arms and legs, making it really difficult to carry him. But Ji Canghai crouched down low and carried him steadily.

The night was like water, the evening breeze was cool, and Ling Yunfan lay on Ji Canghai’s back, feeling at ease. When he raised his head, he saw the crescent moon hanging in the sky like a hook.

There was no talk along the way, and everything was silent. Some people’s emotions were chaotic and their hearts were noisy because of this.

Ling Yunfan couldn’t help but speak, “Don’t you want to ask me anything?”

Ji Canghai replied in a flat, gentle tone, “You have amnesia. What could I ask?”

“I…” Ling Yunfan wanted to tell the truth, but the words choked in his throat.

He didn’t want to confess to Ji Canghai that he had been lying to him all along.

Ling Yunfan said firmly, “I will repay you every penny.”

Ji Canghai shrugged nonchalantly. “It’s okay. I can still afford the money. You don’t have to repay me.”

Ling Yunfan insisted, “No, I have to repay you. I owe you that much.”

Ji Canghai smiled gently and said, “You are still the same as before.”

After they returned home, Ji Canghai helped Ling Yunfan change into a clean and loose-fitting pajama, and then called a familiar doctor to come over.

Ling Yunfan lay in bed and suddenly realized something: Shouldn’t they report the incident to the police?

“Um…” Ling Yunfan said to Ji Canghai after hanging up the phone, “I think we should report it to the police.”

Ji Canghai hesitated for a moment, blinked his eyes uneasily, and didn’t answer immediately.

“What’s wrong?” Ling Yunfan noticed his hesitation.

“I might… not be suitable for reporting this to the police,” Ji Canghai said apologetically.

Ling Yunfan finally realized, “Ah.”

After all, Ji Canghai was the young master of the Zongheng Group and had some fame due to his outstanding appearance. As a public figure, he definitely wanted to keep a low profile.

Besides, their relationship was still unclear, and it would be difficult to explain to the police if they came to investigate.

Ji Canghai said sincerely, “I’m sorry, but I still hope you won’t report it to the police.”

Ling Yunfan quickly waved his hand and said, “I was just worried that those people will come after you. If you don’t want to report it, then forget it.”

Ji Canghai smiled lightly and said, “Don’t worry, I’m not a pushover.”

Ling Yunfan really wanted to retort, Are you sure? Why do I feel like you are the pushover here? You transferred 360,000 yuan just like that. That’s a lot of money. If you divide it among the residents of the Vatican, each person would get 450 yuan!”

The great Yunfan Ling once said, “On the road of growing up, there are always moments when you want to say something but have to hold back.”

So Ling Yunfan held back!

Even though it was hard for him to do so!

“Well,” Ling Yunfan pondered for a moment, “if those people come to bother you, you must tell me.”

Ji Canghai smiled warmly like a stream, “Okay.”

As soon as he finished speaking, the doorbell rang in the living room.

“It should be the doctor.” Ji Canghai went out and opened the door.

“So fast?” Ling Yunfan murmured in surprise, thinking to himself, Is this the power of money?

The doctor who came to the door was an experienced gray-haired old doctor, who seemed to have considerable knowledge. After a diagnosis, he quickly fixed Ling Yunfan’s swollen foot.

“Cold compress for two days, hot compress for two days after that, if it still hurts after a week, go to the hospital for an X-ray. If it doesn’t hurt, lie down and rest for three weeks,” the old doctor said succinctly.

“Thank you,” Ji Canghai thanked him politely and saw the old doctor out.

After the two of them left the room, Ling Yunfan leaned back and fell onto the bed, letting out a long sigh.

According to what the old doctor had said just now, he had to lie down for a whole four weeks, which was 28 days or 672 hours. A pregnant rabbit could give birth to a litter in 28 days.

He had originally wanted to go back to work and earn money as soon as possible, but now it had turned out like this.

It was really a disaster.

Ji Canghai was still asking as he saw the doctor off, “Is there anything we need to pay attention to regarding his injury?”

The old doctor replied, “There won’t be any sequelae, don’t worry. Feed him light meals, don’t let him walk around, and help him take the medicine on time. It should stop hurting after a week at most.”

“Okay, thank you,” Ji Canghai remembered each point.

After seeing off the doctor, Ji Canghai couldn’t help but lightly curve his mouth and his footsteps became noticeably lighter at the thought that Ling Yunfan would have to stay home for several weeks without going out.

He returned home and stood in front of the door, adjusting his expression by pressing his lips down before pushing the door open.

Inside the room, Ling Yunfan lay quietly on the bed, looking sad and lost in thought.

Ji Canghai walked over to the bed and gently rubbed Ling Yunfan’s forehead, asking, “What’s wrong? Does it hurt a lot?”

“No, it doesn’t hurt,” Ling Yunfan shook his head.

“If it hurts, just tell me, don’t suffer in silence,” Ji Canghai spoke softly, then brought a thin blanket and folded it into a long strip, placing it under Ling Yunfan’s feet to make him more comfortable when he slept at night.

Ji Canghai also brought Ling Yunfan’s phone over and placed it within his reach, saying, “If you need anything tonight, just call me. I won’t turn off my phone, so don’t worry about disturbing me.”

“Get some rest and heal your wounds quickly,” Ji Canghai pulled up the blanket covering Ling Yunfan’s body and adjusted it.

The soft and light blanket enveloped Ling Yunfan, providing warmth and comfort on the chilly night. The warm feeling quickly spread from his skin to his chest, filling the emptiness that he had been feeling.

“Goodnight,” Ji Canghai walked to the door and turned off the light.

The room instantly plunged into darkness, as if it had been submerged in thick ink.

Ling Yunfan suddenly remembered the night when he had come home alone after his parents’ accident and sat on the sofa all night long.

There were no stars or moon that night, just like the darkness surrounding him now.

“Ji Canghai,” Ling Yunfan called out, “turn on the light.”

Ji Canghai did as he was asked, then turned around and looked at Ling Yunfan with an inquisitive expression.

Ling Yunfan sat up on the bed, his hand supporting him, and the blanket sliding down to his waist. He turned his head to look at Ji Canghai, his hand clenched anxiously under the blanket.

Then Ling Yunfan asked the question that had puzzled him since they reunited, “Ji Canghai, why are you so good to me?”

Ji Canghai was first startled, then smiled helplessly. He said, “Your question makes me a little sad.”

“Ah?” Ling Yunfan’s heart skipped a beat. “Did I say something wrong? I’m sorry.”

Ji Canghai shook his head. “You don’t have to apologize. It’s my own fault. I thought my actions were clear enough, but now I realize I need to do better.”

Ling Yunfan was confused. “Huh?”

“Ling Yunfan.” Ji Canghai’s deep eyes were fixed on him, and he spoke slowly, calling Ling Yunfan’s name in a soft voice.

Ling Yunfan’s heart inexplicably beat faster.

Then he heard Ji Canghai say, “I like you.”
