Reborn in the Interstellar World as Cannon Fodder Chapter 23

Scheming (Part 2)

When Grandma Yu first heard the news about the accident, her immediate reaction was to dismiss it as a scam. She was all too aware that people were scheming to get Mo Mo’s child, using her and Aunt Yu as bait.

When Ye Mo learned about the incident, she rushed to her grandmother’s side. The informant who delivered the news was a stranger, so Ye Mo discreetly accessed the surveillance footage from the scene. Though her hacking skills weren’t particularly advanced, accessing basic video footage was easy for her.

The footage showed that Yu Fengqi had been lingering in the area for about ten minutes before being hit by the car. It was clearly a premeditated accident, though the collision itself was shockingly brutal. Even Ye Mo winced at the sight and sound of the impact.

Shortly after viewing the video, Yu He called Ye Mo directly. “Sister, Dad’s leg was hit! Please come to the hospital—I’m scared of being here alone.”

Ye Mo couldn’t help but laugh. This was an accident orchestrated by Yu He and her father, now being exploited by others.

“Yu He, did you actually see your father get hit in the leg?” Ye Mo asked, moving closer to her grandmother and aunt.

“Yes! Dad’s leg was injured. He’s still our father—you can’t just ignore him. You need to come to the hospital and take care of him.” Yu He knew the hospital was crawling with traps, ready to capture Ye Mo.

Ye Mo abruptly hung up, noticing Grandma Yu’s anxious expression, as if she wanted Ye Mo to go. Smirking, Ye Mo played the surveillance footage for Grandma Yu and Aunt Yu.

“That accident was staged! This was all planned to lure Mo Mo,” Aunt Yu fumed.

However, Grandma Yu was horrified at the sight of her son injured. “Mo Mo, your father really got into an accident!” Despite any resentment, Grandma Yu still cared deeply for her son, having raised him through hardship. Seeing him hurt was heartbreaking.

“Mom, can’t you see? This was all to trap Mo Mo,” Aunt Yu pointed out.

Ye Mo shook her head at her aunt. Whether a setup or not, Yu Fengqi was genuinely injured, and it was severe.

“I’ll go to the hospital alone,” Grandma Yu insisted, worried about her son.

“Mom, let’s send someone else to check on him first, okay?” Aunt Yu didn’t want her mother getting into trouble, fearing it might endanger Mo Mo in the end.

But Grandma Yu was determined. Aunt Yu calmly interjected, “Do you want Mo Mo to risk her life to bring you back?”

“No!” Grandma Yu denied fervently. Though she loved Mo Mo dearly, she couldn’t simply abandon her son.

Ye Mo wanted to speak, but Aunt Yu stopped her—it was better coming from her.

“Mom, you’ve seen it yourself. Brother was willing to risk his life for money. Yu He clearly knows what’s going on, and judging by her words, she isn’t even at the hospital. That place is a trap,” Aunt Yu explained. “For Mo Mo’s sake, let’s have someone else check on him. If the driver fled, we’ll hire a caregiver to look after him, okay?”

Grandma Yu sat there, visibly distressed, but Aunt Yu turned to Ye Mo. “Mo Mo, buy a medical robot and send it to Room 1108 on the eighth floor of the Camus Grand Hospital. Let it take care of Yu Fengqi. Once it arrives, we can ask it about the situation.”

Ye Mo nodded, swiftly making the arrangements. She quickly connected to the robot’s camera feed, facilitated by her contact with the merchant.

The medical robot entered the hospital, navigating past numerous men in black scattered around the perimeter. Since it was a robot, no one bothered to avoid speaking openly in front of it.

“Any updates?”

“None!”

“That family is really abandoning this guy, huh?”

“They’ve probably realized it’s a trap.”

The robot absorbed the conversations but continued moving forward, undeterred. It proceeded deeper into the hospital, passing several black-clad individuals clearly not there for medical reasons.

“Mom, do you see this? All these people are here to trap Mo Mo,” Aunt Yu warned her mother. “If you show up, they’ll capture you first and force you to reveal Mo Mo’s whereabouts. They have countless ways to make you talk.”

Grandma Yu shivered in fear.

Soon, the robot’s camera captured Yu He, looking disheveled and distressed.

“Why are you grabbing me? You promised that I just needed to lure Ye Mo here! She’ll be here soon. Why aren’t you keeping your word?” Yu He shouted.

“Your dad’s nearly dead from the crash. We brought you here just to let you see him.”

“Ah! You said it would only break his leg!” Yu He screamed in terror.

Grandma Yu, hearing this, trembled with fury. “They… they… father and daughter…”

Reflecting on the staged car accident, it was obvious they had planned everything.

“Mom, Brother orchestrated this to sell out Mo Mo,” Aunt Yu said.

The robot entered the elevator, with Yu He being dragged inside as well. Yu He was genuinely crying now, sensing that the people who had taken her might turn on her too.

But why? It was supposed to be about capturing Ye Mo, so why were they targeting her too?

“You said I just had to lure her here! Why are you grabbing me? And now that you’ve hit my dad, you should pay us the initial fee!” Yu He cried out.

“Initial fee? Worry about whether you’ll live long enough to collect it.”

“What do you mean? Are you planning to kill us?” Yu He was terrified.

The person holding Yu He remained silent. The higher-ups had made it clear: if Yu Fengqi’s injuries were too severe, they might as well eliminate all loose ends.

Seeing her captor’s silence, Yu He realized she was in real danger—her life was on the line.

“Mom, did you see? If we show up, not only will Mo Mo be caught, but we’ll also meet our deaths,” Aunt Yu warned.

Grandma Yu wept. “But your brother…”

“Mom, he plotted this himself. He doesn’t deserve our sympathy! He’s unworthy of being called a father!” Aunt Yu seethed. “He’s willing to sacrifice us for his own gain. Do you want Mo Mo to be captured, and treated like livestock to breed endlessly? If people learn about our reproductive values, all three generations of our family might be kept as breeding stock, forever having children. Is that what you want?”

Aunt Yu’s words struck Grandma Yu like lightning—she had no desire to be a breeding machine!
