Scheming (Part 3)
Aunt Yu’s words jolted Grandma Yu into realizing the reality of her own situation. If her fertility value were discovered, she too would become a target for capture. She recalled a horrifying incident from over ten years ago when several high-fertility women were kidnapped by interstellar pirates. These women were imprisoned for two decades, and by the time they were released, they were old and worn out. One woman had been forced to bear over a dozen children during her captivity, but she never saw any of them because they were sold immediately after birth.
That tragedy led the Alliance to issue a strict order: anyone involved in child trafficking would face the death penalty. Yet, despite this, some were still willing to risk everything for money.
Ye Mo acted quickly, sending evidence of Yu He’s collusion and criminal plotting to the police. Regardless of the circumstances, Yu He had committed a serious crime by attempting to sell her children. Ye Mo also transmitted a live feed of the scene to the police, exposing the illegal activities happening right then.
However, Ye Mo was aware that even if the black-clad men were arrested, they would likely be released soon, as their backers were too powerful for the interstellar police to confront directly.
Meanwhile, the medical robot had followed Yu He and her captors into a hospital room. The room was unusually large, especially since the hospital typically had few patients due to advanced medical technology. There were fifteen beds, each one occupied, though all the patients appeared healthy according to the medical scans. It was clear that this room, like the hospital, was a trap set for Ye Mo.
As for Yu Fengqi, he was still unconscious at the moment. There was a medical robot busy in the ward. The new medical robot soon came close to Yu Fengqi.
No one knew that this medical robot was bought by Ye Mo, and no one knew that Ye Mo was monitoring everything at that moment.
Ye Mo curled her lips, he deserved it!
Yu He was so frightened when she saw the miserable state of his father. His body was bandaged and almost looked like a mummy.
“Mom, do you see this? If we show up, none of us will escape!” Aunt Yu was terrified. She knew that if either she or her mother were captured, Ye Mo would feel obligated to rescue them, creating a cycle of never-ending threats.
Though they weren’t physically present, Ye Mo, her grandmother, and her aunt could see everything happening in the room through the robot’s camera. Yu He sat in a corner, weeping silently, hoping that once Ye Mo arrived and cooperated, the men would let her and her father go.
A doctor soon entered the room to examine Yu Fengqi. After assessing his injuries, the doctor instructed Yu He to monitor her father closely, warning that his condition was critical. If he didn’t wake up within three days, he would likely remain in a vegetative state. Upon hearing this, Grandma Yu began to cry again, but Ye Mo and Aunt Yu felt no pity, believing that Yu Fengqi had brought this fate upon himself.
Yu He, with the help of two medical robots, moved her father into a treatment chamber. Grandma Yu felt conflicted but ultimately decided against going to the hospital, fearing the consequences of being caught and used as a breeding machine.
While Grandma Yu cared for Ye Mo on the surface, her son was still her child. However, when it came to choosing between her safety, her son, and Ye Mo, she was unwilling to risk her freedom.
Most people, when faced with danger, act selfishly, and Ye Mo knew she couldn’t rely on anyone else for her safety. Although Grandma Yu and Aunt Yu cared for her, their concern would never surpass their own self-interest.
Ye Mo was also aware that her own survival instinct drove her actions. She couldn’t reveal her hidden identity as a transcendent plant master due to her lack of self-defense capabilities. Despite the imminent danger, Ye Mo sensed that the trouble stemming from Yu Fengqi’s injury wasn’t over.
If she and her family didn’t show up, the captors might become desperate enough to kill him.
After reporting everything to the police, Ye Mo wondered how they would respond. Unknown to her, General Mo was at that very moment at the police station on Kamo Star, watching the same footage. Observing the trap set at the hospital, General Mo questioned the police chief, “Isn’t this a blatant failure of control?”
“General, it’s not that we don’t want to intervene, but the natives of Kamo Star are powerful. We can’t confront them head-on,” the chief explained helplessly.
General Mo narrowed his eyes. Above all, this woman, Ye Mo, had some relationship with him. Even if the child she carrying was not his, he could not let her be bullied. He promptly issued orders, planning to intervene directly.
Yan Mingxiu, who was by General Mo’s side, excitedly relayed the news to Ye Mo, assuring her that General Mo would handle the situation and ensure her safety. Ye Mo expressed her gratitude to Yan Mingxiu, asking her to thank the General on her behalf, as she had no direct way of contacting him.
Despite the reassurances, Ye Mo couldn’t shake the strange feeling she had about General Mo’s involvement. She wondered why he, rather than the police, was taking charge since this was a matter for the interstellar police, not the military. Could her identity be somehow connected to General Mo? Despite having all of her predecessor’s memories, she had no recollection of the father of her unborn child, as if there were no trace of him at all.
