Recalling the shock she experienced at the age of eight, Yin Luoqiu’s heart still bears a lingering melancholy.
“Your brother, I am unworthy of such a blessing. It’s better to let him be with my sister.”
She dares to wager that if she shows even the slightest favour towards Yang Yi, Yin Yin will go mad.
It seems that there’s an element of madness in Yin Yin’s nature when it comes to matters of the heart.
Three years ago, she knelt before her, tears streaming, her head bloodied from incessant kowtows, begging her not to stay in the country, pleading for time to allow Yang Yi to fall for her.
Those unwavering eyes, filled with resentment
It was at that moment that she realised that she and her sister would never be able to maintain a friendly relationship in this lifetime.
Yin Luoqiu cherished her life immensely and had no desire to become entangled in such unrequited love.
At night, at the request of Mother Yin, Yang Yi came to tutor Yin Yin.
Yin Yin’s voice was loud, sometimes going to the kitchen to pour water, sometimes asking Aunt Liu to cut fruits for them. She even went to Yin Luoqiu’s room to apologise, saying that she would be studying late tonight and if she disturbed her, she hoped she would understand.
Seeing that white lotus appearance, Yin Luoqiu furrowed her brows.
Perhaps she should not have agreed to her father’s request to stay at home; it was truly testing her patience.
She changed her clothes and immediately called Yang Zhi Xia.
To adjust to the time difference, she had declined her invitation earlier, but it was indeed more comfortable to be outside. Having someone at home who treats you like a mistress really affects one’s mood.
She went downstairs, and when Yin Yin saw her, her mouth slightly opened. “Sister? Where are you going so late?”
Yang Yi’s gaze also followed her.
Yin Luoqiu waved her hand and walked out the door.
Yang Zhi Xia’s car was already waiting for her at the gate.
“I should have known, right? She should have hung out with me!”
When she received Luoqiu’s call, she had just arrived at the club, and her keys had just been handed to the valet, but Luoqiu took them back.
She was eager to pick up her friend and go crazy together.
As soon as Yin Luoqiu got in the car, she smelled a strong perfume, full of aggression.
Her delicate nose couldn’t help but twitch.
Yang Zhi Xia knew her habit and took out a bottle of lemon-scented perfume, not in the best mood.
It was her friend’s favourite scent.
Yin Luoqiu’s face finally relaxed.
“Tsk, it’s just a slightly stronger ocean scent, and you’re so sensitive. Over there, everyone wears heavy fragrances; how could you stand it for so long?”
Yang Zhi Xia said he was not in the best mood.
Her friend was very sensitive to scents and didn’t like heavy ones.
Yin Luoqiu opened the car window to get some fresh air and replied casually, “You said it yourself; I endured it.”
She had good patience.
Yang Zhi Xia held the steering wheel and glanced at her, muttering softly, “Endured it? You, like this?”
They had grown up wearing the same dress since they were children, so they knew each other well. Although Luoqiu appeared calm and composed, in reality, she was quite grudge-bearing. If someone annoyed her with a certain scent, even if she didn’t say anything at the time, she would make sure to keep her distance from that person in the future.
Yin Luoqiu touched her nose. She had been sensitive to scents her whole life, and overly strong odours could make her hair stand on end.
Yang Zhi Xia smirked, “Our little Yi is really causing trouble!”
Luoqiu developed this quirk because of Little Yi. Before Yin Yin was born, Luoqiu had been taking care of Little Yi. Two-year-old Little Yi even slept in the same room as Luoqiu at night. Being a child, he couldn’t control his body properly. One morning, when Luoqiu went out for a moment, Little Yi made a mess. He ate yoghurt secretly, which upset his stomach and dirtied the bed. To cover his tracks, this clever child even brought Yin Yin’s mother’s perfume and poured it on the bed. The smell was maddening. Even though Luoqiu changed the bed, ventilated the room, and even changed rooms, for a long time afterward, Yin Luoqiu felt like everywhere smelled the same.
“Children can be troublesome.”
Looking back on those two years of taking care of a child, Yin Luoqiu shuddered.
Yang Zhi Xia laughed heartily, saying, “You were really professional back then, even better at taking care of kids than my parents.”
Back then, she had witnessed quite a commotion.
At the age of ten, Yin Luoqiu exuded a mature and steady aura. Whenever Little Yi grumbled, she knew what he wanted. In contrast, his own parents were utterly useless!
When Little Yi cried and needed a diaper change, Luoqiu asked the couple to help. However, they ended up smearing the dirty diaper on Little Yi’s face.
It was that scene that made Yang Zhi Xia feel sorry for herself. Thinking of her younger brother made her realise that she must have suffered from her parents’ “abuse” like this when she was a child, but she didn’t remember.
“Aren’t you recently engaged? Didn’t you say it was going well?”
Engagements were meant for marriage. If she said it was going well, it meant she was interested. Interest in marriage and having children was not far off.
Of course, this was entirely from the perspective of the older generation.
Yang Zhi Xia lightly chuckled. “I’m only twenty-eight, and they nag me every day.”
After turning twenty-six, she began her dating schedule.
“They probably want you to settle down.”
Zhi Xia had been dating since middle school, but her relationships never lasted long. She was the typical player in the realm of heartbreakers.
“Don’t even mention it! I’m fine as I am now. On the last blind date, he was also a player. If it doesn’t work out, I’ll negotiate with him and make do.”
She had loving parents, but her attitude towards marriage and relationships was very frivolous.
Every time she saw her parents’ loving relationship or witnessed Yin Yin’s persistence and her little brother’s silent love, she felt out of place.
Only when she was with Luoqiu did that feeling disappear.
Luoqiu might appear passionate, but in reality, she was more of a scoundrel and more ruthless.
Just look at her attitude towards her first love and her ex-boyfriends, and you’ll understand.
Compared to this scoundrel, Yang Zhi Xia could be considered a responsible person.
“They’ve redecorated?”
Standing in front of the venue, which exuded a low-key yet opulent luxury, Yin Luoqiu raised an eyebrow.
Three years ago, when she returned, Zhi Xia had welcomed her here.
“Haha!” Yang Zhi Xia stood with her hands on her hips. “New owner, new decoration, of course!”
Her expression of triumph was clear to anyone.
“You acquired this place?”
As Yin Luoqiu followed her deeper into the venue, the decor became increasingly luxurious.
The decoration of this place suited her taste perfectly, and the air was filled with a subtle lemon scent.
Such a fragrance had a calming effect on one’s spirit.
“Three years ago, shortly after you went abroad, the owner of this shop ran into some trouble. The funding chain broke, and they needed to sell the place. It just so happened that I bought it.”
As Yang Zhi Xia explained, she entered her private room.
The private room had a small bar, and she walked straight to it, mixing a cocktail for her friend.
Pale blue in colour, emitting a cold mist, with lemon slices on the rim.
“Demon’s Graveyard. Does it suit you?”
She pushed the drink towards her with a playful tone.
Luoqiu, just like this glass of “Demon’s Graveyard,” had soft colours and seemed very drinkable, but in reality, it sent shivers down one’s spine!
Yin Luoqiu didn’t touch the drink but walked behind the bar, poured a glass of vodka, added two ice cubes, and sat down in the middle of the sofa.
Yang Zhi Xia clicked her tongue a couple of times and shook her head.
She wondered how Luoqiu had developed such an old-fashioned character.
No matter when, she always had this appearance of remaining unruffled, which was quite infuriating.
It had always been like this! Often, Yang Zhi Xia would be furious or helpless, but this person could still maintain a calm demeanour!
Just a glass of wine, and she wouldn’t even drink the one specially made for her!
“We have some new staff in the store. I specifically kept a top-notch one for you.”
Yang Zhi Xia was indeed very considerate, as even someone as worldly as her couldn’t help but be amazed by this top-notch person.
Originally, Yin Luoqiu didn’t intend to have someone accompany her, but when she saw Zhi Xia’s expression of reluctance and fondness, she changed her mind.
With nothing better to do, she could take a look at what kind of extraordinary man would make Yang Zhi Xia reluctant to part with him.
You see, Yang Zhi Xia was a butterfly in love, never settling in relationships, and had encountered countless men. The one she considered top-notch had to be exceptional.
Seeing that her friend didn’t object, Yang Zhi Xia felt delighted and informed the manager to bring the man in.
The man arrived promptly.
“Hello.”
His voice was somewhat husky and melodic, like a bamboo flute.
Quite pleasant, actually.
Yin Luoqiu raised her head and looked over.
A familiar face suddenly entered her vision.
“Shen Zifei?”
A name slipped out of her mouth.
But she quickly realised he wasn’t that person.
Because that person was already dead.
Yang Zhi Xia waved at the man standing awkwardly in the centre of the room, gesturing for him to sit next to Luoqiu.
Luoqiu was still in a daze and didn’t refuse immediately.
However, when the man, enveloped in the scent of lemon perfume, sat down next to her, she snapped back to reality.
“Get out!”
Luoqiu’s voice was cold, like a sharpened steel blade, gleaming with a chilling light.
The man’s body stiffened.
“Get out; we don’t need you here.”
She repeated it even more forcefully.
The man glanced at Yang Zhi Xia, and she nodded in response.
As a result, within less than three minutes of entering, the man had to leave again.
The atmosphere in the private room became solemn.
“It’s been ten years, and you still haven’t let go of him?” Yang Zhi Xia sighed.
The man resembled Luoqiu’s high school first love.
If that person had survived until now, he should look like that, or even better. Because that person had a noble character and wouldn’t have ended up in a nightclub.
Luoqiu shook her head. “I haven’t let go.”
She just felt a bit guilty.
Yang Zhi Xia thought she was still avoiding him and couldn’t help but be frustrated. “If you had truly let go, would your ex-boyfriend look like that?”
The man bore a resemblance to Shen Zifei in his appearance.
“That car accident back then wasn’t your fault; it was mine. I shouldn’t have told him your flight information. If you want to blame someone, blame me. Don’t take the responsibility on yourself.”
Luoqiu listened to her words with her head hanging down, staring at the wine in her glass.
Shen Zifei, her high school sweetheart, with whom she had a two-year pure and innocent relationship
Her first love in this lifetime
She hadn’t wanted to go abroad, so she had agreed to be with him during high school.
But things never go as planned.
She had to go abroad, and the only way to leave was to send him a text message breaking up with him before she left.
He had found out her flight time by asking around after desperately searching for her at the airport to say a final goodbye.
However, he met with a car accident on his way to the airport, dying on the spot.
